Rubber banding is where you have your character run for a while, and they suddenly snap back a short distance. If you keep trying to run forward, the effect keeps going, making it look like you are tied to a piece of elastic/rubber and being snapped back and forth. First time I saw this problem was in Star Wars Galaxies, because my computer and connection to the server couldn't keep up with the speed my character was running at. I was considering ARK, until I heard this comment about rubber banding. Now, I think I'll wait until I have a better PC. Shame really, I think ARK sounds like loads of fun.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Bort replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know you are a Sanderfan when you get into an argument with your girlfriend because she doesn't agree with calling the new kitten Hoid. Or Dalinar. Or Kaladin. Or Stormfather. Or Tien. -
Borter Clams watched from a balcony around the throne room as the news broke. Down below, the Dula crossed to the Queen, they exchanged some words, and the Queen stood and pointed at the Borter standing with the crowd. The news rippled out from there, as one by one, people turned to look at the fisherman, and a space cleared around him, as though people were afraid on infection from him. Chuckling to himself, Borter waved a hand, and the illusion of him below vanished with a pop. People recoiled even further. What was it about newly emptied spaces that made people so shocked? He turned and walked away, leaving them all to wonder what had happened. ========================================================================================================= A short time later, the chaos in the throne room was interrupted by a gurgling noise. A spear clattered to the floor. Attention was drawn to a guard by the door leading to the Royal apartments, who had dropped his weapon and was trying to stop the blood pouring from his throat. He failed, and after a minute, he joined the ranks of the deceased, clattering to the floor. Standing in the doorway was a Jeskeri Cultist wearing fine and ornate robes. The figure was holding a bloody dagger. It entered the room, watching people shy back from it, but it did not attempt to strike anyone. Eventually, it came to stand before the Queen and pushed back its hood, revealing Borter Clams' young and innocent looking face. The smirk he wore had nothing of innocence about it though, as he looked at Kiireon and said, "Hello, Mummy. Did you miss me? I must say, thank you for your help in ridding us of that dreadful Priest." I didn't see myself as particularly gunning for anyone (well, apart from Phattemer, but I got him in the end, and that was nothing personal, just business. How have I been gunning for Dow? The two votes on Wonko was actually an accident. I was just playing with my Prince ability, and didn't realise I'd voted for the same person two cycles in a row (if I had, I would have changed my second Wonko vote). I'll admit, I was a little annoyed I couldn't get Phattemer Hoeded, but everyone in Elantris was trying to hoed me at the time, so I had no votes I could manipulate. Shame really, but it did mean that he became my first ever Eliminator kill that night. And Wilson, as for me doing a lot of things not normally attributed to an Eliminator, it seems there is something to be said for inexperience. Given your reputation though, I am rather pleased that you thought I provided pretty decent arguments. Out of curiosity, how absolutely convinced of my guilt were you? Or was there a niggling doubt?

Honestly, I didn't consider his role in the vote. As I said in an earlier post, it was an entirely RP choice. I would have voted for anyone who called me inferior. Edit: You are right in perhaps voting for a priest was a bad idea, but like I said, I didn't expect any harm to come of it, and I was right. Edit 2: I'm off out for the night, so if you have anything else you'd like to talk about, I'm afraid it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Just to point out, if Gamma has played duplicitously in any of the games I've been in (besides MR6, I mean), I hadn't realised. Probably the only reason I noticed this time was because he killed me. I've heard stories about other games, with betrayals from a few people, but that was the first that I was really involved in. Besides, I didn't see my vote on Phattemer as a betrayal. There was no chance of him dying, as others had more votes anyways, so at worst, he may have been hoeded until Elantris figures out how to fix him. I'll admit, if he had been hoeded, I probably would have felt a bit guilty.

I'm not so sure I'd go so far as to say I was going off to be an Eliminator, only that matters of village obviously mean less to some people, so if I have a reason to vote for someone, I'll vote for them, regardless of their roles or powers. Such a person does exist, and I will provide a quote for you. It may take a while, as I'm at work, but in my spare time, I'll go through the main thread and try to find the quote I'm talking about. Can I just say here, thanks again Hael. Your links will come in very handy for this.

Just checking... Hero, since it's not in the your write up, am I right in thinking this cycle will end at 4am Wednesday (9 or 10pm Tuesday to you guys in the States, I think)? Edit: Wow. 7 people viewing the thread, and I can see who 6 of them are!!! That's some kind of new record. Edit 2: It's always the guests that leave after a comment like that. I always have to wonder who they are.

I added stars to the quote so I could easier respond. Your first point. Not Wilson or Meta. The third SE mod - Gamma. He was a 'villager', but turned traitor and helped the Spies. If a mod of all people can just play their own game, screwing over the other innocent players in a game, for a laugh, why can't others? Interesting note, if Gamma hadn't betrayed everyone in MR6 (I think it was MR6 anyways - the Great House War), then in the interests of a villager victory, I probably wouldn't have voted for Phatt, but Gamma opened my eyes to the idea of playing my own game in SE, and Phatt gave me a reason to vote for him, so I thought, 'Why not?' Your second point. You're right. I haven't been paying as much attention to thread the past few cycles while I was in Elantris. Scanning through it to see what is happening, sure, but detailed analysis, I didn't. Unfortunately, that may also have included paying attention to exactly who said what. Someone complained about people just adding votes onto someone without sharing their reasons, but if it wasn't you, who was it? And will we hear from them again because you've not said anything about why you want to vote for Wyrm. And, fair enough, dearie. Multiple vote shenanigans do support you being Dula. Third point. As I said to Hael, that was some good logic there. Shame it's wrong. Edit: It was MR6 I was thinking of - A Venture in Atium.

Thanks for the welcome back, Hael Well, that was a fun few days. Elantris is coming along quite nicely, although they do still seem to suffer from a minor grime problem. Perhaps I'll start a charity drive... Equip Elantris! Donate cleaning products to send into the fallen city. Other than that, it's a nice place. Nice people too. Now, at least. My vote for Phattemer was for RP reasons. He called us all (as in, everyone outside of Elantris) 'inferior', and then threatened to have me lynched if I didn't acquiesce (basically, if I didn't do what he said and vote where he wanted). So, I made an RP comment back, and voted for him to show that I wouldn't be bullied. NOTE: THIS WAS ALL DONE IN GOOD NATURED RP. NO-ONE WAS ACTUALLY OFFENDED IN REAL LIFE. Did you see a post made by Gamma sometime in the past few cycles reminding everyone of etiquette rules? I think that was because of the exchange between myself and Phatt. As for getting him hoeded, why should I care if it did? I learned the hard way in the last game that some people don't care what their objectives are, if they want to play their own game and betray their team, they do so. I had a reason to vote for Phattemer, so I did. Actually, it's the same reason that makes me wonder why Wilson and Meta were so surprised to discover that people were using vote manipulation early on. Do you really expect people to listen when some of you deliberately go out of your way to screw over your own side? Confirmed or not, this looks pretty dodgy. Wasn't Kas one of the ones that disapproved of people coming along and voting for someone, but not sharing their reasons? For that matter, what do we have confirming Kas as Dula? There was something iffy with one of the votes on him, as I recall, but what was done after that to confirm him? Or are we really going to take his word for it? In a game where he himself has told people 'Trust no-one'. My vote is going to have to be for Ostrich. As Wyrm said, he hasn't been posting, but he hasn't been replaced, which means he is active somewhere. Since he's not sharing any signs of activity with the rest of us, we have to assume the worse. Edit: Actually, I'd like to hear why Kas thinks Luckat must be Odiv if I am Gyorn. I'm not, which Meta will probably verify later on, but I am curious. Edit 2: I see our hotels are still crowded... 4 guests lurking.

Is reading The Stormlight Archive worth it?
Bort replied to Red Ferring's topic in Stormlight Archive
I didn't like this scene. Why? Because the damnation thing nearly got me fired! That's right. It is so compelling, that my 'reasonable time for bed' turned into a bit of a late one, causing me to sleep in, and (very) narrowly avoid being late for work the following day. On a more serious note though, the Stormlight Archive very quickly brought Brandon to the Fantasy King throne that lives in Bort's head. The world is so detailed, so real almost, yet unlike Tolkien, he doesn't get bogged down in the tiny details. Instead, he sort of lets the scene set itself. The characters are great, the dialogue is brilliant, and the fight scenes are literally awesome. There are a few key 'Holy Chull!' moments, but the one scene in WoK that really sends shivers up my spine is the one where something changed, literally in a burst of light. It's in the Tower scene that gbazz4 brought up. As for the comments about it being slow at the start, it is a little, but it's not a bad slow. It's more of a 'Let's take time to properly introduce our world and characters' kind of slow. -
I know I'm in Elantris, and so not supposed to be posting in this thread, but I have a question or two about Seon use from these posts, and figured that a clarification post in here would be forgiven. From what Kasimir has said, he started a conversation with Meta this cycle, but has also given his seon to Meta, and asked him to contact Seonid. Can you use a Seon and then gift it in the same cycle? I'd have thought if you used it, you then wouldn't be able to gift it in the same cycle. Or would it be a case of use it this cycle, gift it next cycle, then Meta can use it the cycle after that? I'd like clarification on this as it sounds like Kasimir's Seon is one busy bunny.

You should try some kind of Gregorian monk chant along these lines... "Numu... huku... maki... aki... aialu... namor" Tien likes Roks, doesn't he?

I selected Lighteyes, although I'm pretty borderline. My eyes are a sort of hazelly-green colour.

Ah, that's why Google are working on driverless cars. -
I disagree. It might help us find an eliminator, or it will provide a list of players for the Cultists to take out to prevent us from manipulating any vote as we get into the mid-late game, when votes become more important as there as fewer of them. I just think it's safer to keep that kind of discussion to PMs.
