    Spellchecker

Yeah, unfortunately the spellchecker will be a browser thing, not a site-level thing :/
  2. I'll work on it. 10 16 32 50 64 100 I think.
  3. If only Aonic people can become Elantrians, logically the important question is, where did the Aonic people migrate from? The west? Or is it that if you live in the Elantris effect region for a few generations, you can be taken by the Shaod (Fjordell or not)?
  4. Alloy of Law Chapter 2 is here. Check it out: http://www.tor.com/stories/2011/06/the-alloy-of-law-excerpt-2 Two big things happen in this chapter regarding Allomancy. Can you say... aluminum? Join our chapter-specific spoiler discussion on all the gritty details:
  5. Discuss Chapter Two. The things I noted: 1. Bendalloy in action! 2. Aluminum. Inert. You can't Push or Pull on this. Discuss!

  7. Yugioh abridged, but close enough
  8. I just posted a reply to this thread. I don't think that person understands that a huge Stormlight Archive novel takes significantly more effort than a shorter novel. Just because a book is three times longer as another book doesn't mean it only takes three times more effort to write. It's a geometric progression if there ever was one. There's more outlining work, there's more revision, more of everything per word. Can you really blame Brandon for wanting to tell a shorter tale and do it well? Making huge epics like that and never doing anything else is a surefire way to drive yourself insane. EDIT: Oh, and go Mistborn.
  9. I don't think Elantrians are created in Teod. Doesn't the text explicitly say you have to be in Arelon to be created into Elantrians? What's interesting is that Brandon calls this the "Elantris Effect," not the Shaod. That means that the two are very much connected. Maybe people smarter than me already understood that, but that's obviously important.
  10. Technically, Harmony is not Sazed's Shard name. It appears to be what he calls himself. There is a difference between that and a Shard's name/intent. Pedantry aside, yeah :/ I'm sad, because Harmony was the best synonym for Unity I could find...
  11. This has pretty much been my analysis. I think it makes most sense if Aona is Devotion. However, I do worry that Unity is a little vague, from a Shard-intent point. I'm thinking Skai's actual Shard is some sort of synonym for that, but I can't decide on a synonym I like. So, for now, I like Unity.
  12. Okay, let me rephrase: abstract algebra proofs are far less enlightening than proofs in analysis. So there
  13. Some guy has arrived. His name is Eric. Referring to myself in the third person makes me a bad guy! (Free reputation points for noting where the obscure reference is from) Gasp, could it be? Another math major? I'm Eric. I'm the forum overlord, and the theory master. I'm also a math major and an aspiring novelist, so I'm the unholy hybrid who likes both words and quantitative reasoning. See? Most math majors wouldn't use the phrase "quantitative reasoning" there. Welcome to 17th Shard. If you have any questions about the site or Brandon's works, I'll be happy to discuss things with you, long after you've decided you no longer care. Taylor series are fun. Abstract algebra is boooring. Calculus and analysis is far more rewarding Well, technically, it's derivatives of the functions evaluated at a point. You can't take the derivative of a point But yes, that's basically what they are. Taylor series are used for... you know, I'm just not going to complete that sentence. We'll be here all night. But then I'd have a third line in my title, and that'd throw the symmetry off. Since when does math involve numbers?
  14. Well, okay, you have a point. It depends how quick the Shard intent molding effect takes. If it took millennia for Ruin and Preservation to get to this level, I think Sazed would take quite a bit longer than that. So not anytime soon, if at all. I guess it could happen, though.
  15. I agree. But moreover, I think Devotion and Unity (or something very similar to Unity) are Shards on Sel.
  16. Skai wanted to unite his and Aona's power. Okay, it's a bad pun, but it could happen. That is, if Skai is Unity.
  17. Well, it doesn't really matter which is stronger, since his mind can separate the two powers. It wouldn't matter unless he, you know, died.
  18. Josh (Rubix) does indeed say this is the case, though I wish I had the exact question/quote, of course. EDIT: To be precise, this is what Josh said, and I have not heard any specific reference that they "tend to fall in pairs." That is a more implicit assumption. If you have a clear quote, I'm first in line in wanting to hear it. I think of it like Allomancy. Sure, there is Pushing and Pulling, which are opposite powers, but you also have tin and pewter, which while they are pairs, they aren't opposites, just complementary. I think this is the case with Aona and Skai. It is perfectly possible that Skai is Unity (or at least a synonym of it). As for AonDor being of Skai, I don't know about that. It feels right having it linked with Aona, simply based upon the name, but it's hard to know what the Dor is. Possible, I suppose. There's not enough information to really make a detailed judgment.
  19. I believe you are right, that the letter was written to other world hoppers. For the Brandonothology (our record of all interviews and Q&A's) I was wondering when that interview happened, and also if those are direct quotes or paraphrasings?
  20. If you're like us, you think that Allomancy is perfect for a video game. Well, as luck has it, Brandon announced via Twitter today that there is some promising movement afoot with a video game. So, this doesn't mean there will be one. It seems that Dragonsteel Entertainment HQ (read: Brandon's basement) received a proposal, and Brandon was impressed by it. It seems like a good start to making the dream come true.

  22. Press in dire situations!
  23. This was a triumph.
  24. Oops, that should be Seventeenth Shard, the in-world organization. The way I interpreted that answer is that the general term is Invest, but on certain Shardworlds, the term varies. "Charge" for Scadrial, infuse for Roshar, and they actually use Invest on Nalthis. I will go edit the Brandonothology to say "Seventeenth Shard" instead. Though, on another note, I think the question of what it means to be Invested is still very much an open issue. Shardblades can't be Pushed or Pulled on because they are Invested, likewise with Nightblood. However, you can obviously Pull on metalminds, and I think Hemalurgic spikes too.
