  1. Mistcoats. Heck yes.
  2. I think Ascendant Warrior is Vin, and if so, it is the most awesome religious title ever.
  3. Mi'ch was hoping we would get Chapter Two to release on 17S, but I don't know if that's happening or not. I haven't been informed of anything like that.
  4. I might be going. After all, someone needs to ask the tough trivia questions to entertain the line, and I will ask some awesomely hard Mistborn questions. I probably can't camp as long as Mi'ch, but meh, I might be able to come. It depends on my available funding.
  5. Well, didn't Puck say that from the Vericon report? Yeah. I'm assuming this is merely what Sazed calls himself now. There isn't evidence for the Shards of Ruin and Preservation to actually change.
  6. That was awesome. Also, hey look an article!
  7. It's been pretty quiet around these parts recently, but guess what just happened today? Oh, you know... just the Prologue and Chapter One for Mistborn: The Alloy of Law. And it's awesome. Check it out at Tor.com Also interestingly, it seems the release date is November 8th. This isn't terribly surprising, since everyone has always said it's early November. However, The Gathering Storm's release date changed by a week, so here at 17S we were very interested in seeing the official date. If you're making plans to go to the release party, November 8th seems to be the date to save. Once you're done with the chapter, check out our spoiler-riffic discussion thread here:
  8. That is awesome. Night shifts are great.
  9. Yeah, I haven't seen anything about the one-tablet thing on IGN. (People trust Fox News at all? What?) But I did see that Miyamoto said they are "thinking about" multiple tablets and if it is possible, so Fox News might not be too far off-base. If there is only one tablet per console, Nintendo has really made a horrible mistake. It's a shame; I really want this console to be awesome. EDIT: Here's the reference. http://www.news.com.au/technology/gaming/nintendos-shigeru-miyamoto-explains-the-new-wii-u/story-e6frfrt9-1226071923070#ixzz1PCYxkd2y Q: Will players use two touchscreen controllers or will they use just one new controller and the original Wii controls with the new console? Our basic premise is that you can use one with a system. If we got to an idea of having multiple (controllers) it might be just more convenient for people to use their Nintendo 3DS and have a way to connect that. That being said, we are doing research about if someone brings their controller to their friends house and they want to play together on Wii U to whether or not something like that would be possible.
  10. I completely agree with this theory. There's no counterexample I can think up, and seems to make sense. Things like, say, a rock would just have a much weaker Cognitive and Spiritual aspect, I'd imagine. Since we know so little about Realmatic theory, this seems like a great place to start. I totally want to use the acronym SFHA for Shard Formerly Held by Aona. Let's start doing that, to differentiate between Aona the Shardholder and the power itself.
  11. Fox news says that only one of the controllers can be used at a time, and will not be sold separately: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/06/11/7-things-didnt-know-about-nintendo-wii-u/?test=faces This is news is pretty lame. It makes sense economically (no having to buy additional controllers) but it's completely stupid from a gameplay perspective. I like my split-screen multiplayer...
  12. The Ardents group here are the theory staff members, and are appointed by the administrators. Of course, you shouldn't feel the need to be an ardent to post some wicked theories!

  13. Sweet! I hope the move went well and not too much of your stuff died on the way over.
  14. Well, the default skin is 1040 pixels wide, so you should have a horizontal scrollbar (which I hate). I've created a fix on the testbed skin which scales it back, but I haven't added it to the main one yet.
  15. I would like to announce that Kerry had a totally brilliant idea which put my idea to shame.
  16. 1920x1080 is awesome. I have a dual monitor setup running that. It's sweet. It's pretty typical for widescreen monitors. Middle of the road. The only reason I ask is because I realized our site isn't compatible with 1024x768 monitors. And though I'd make fun of you if you were on something that bad, it's important to be compatible. I read today that 20% of monitors are still that size, and it's kind of dumb to not be compatible with it. Besides, a lot of people at work have ITs that suck at upgrading. No need to punish those peeps.
  17. Oops, I totally wasn't clear there. I was referring to screen resolution.
  18. While I have you here, what sorts of displays, browsers, and operating systems do you use when looking at the site? Does anything look odd to you, display-wise? Sometimes it's the really small things that enhance user experience. Some computers I try don't display the diamonds properly, for one thing.
  19. Transformation is one of the Surges they use
  20. It was awesome. Tacomancy, Nachochemy, and Chalupalurgy.
  21. Brandon explicitly told me the focuses in Awakening were the Commands.
  22. Of course you didn't get it right, your physics class is using imperial units
  23. You're correct, CraftyGames was supposed to release one. I think Isaac (the artist for Mistborn's symbols and maps) did some symbol work for them, but I haven't heard anything about it in forever.
  24. Wow, there's a lot to comment on in this thread. I think the primary connection between Seons, spren, and Nightblood is how they get their Cognitive aspects. We don't know a lot of Realmatic theory, but it seems to me Syl is taking some of Kaladin's Cognitive power, and she's trading it and giving back some Spiritual power in the form of Surgebinding. Seons could be drawing the Cognitive aspect from their master as well. The problem with that way of thinking about it is that Nightblood doesn't bond with just one person. In fact, there's no indication he draws his consciousness from any source. He got it all in the front end, with the thousand Breaths. That would be enough Spiritual power that, with a Command (which would act as a sort of Cognitive seed), can bring Nightblood to sentience. It's interesting that Brandon calls Nightblood "almost-sentient." I'd imagine that means he is "pretty close to sentience but still is an imitation of it." So okay, let's skip the whole issue of where they get their Cognitive power, because the mechanics of that seems to differ between books. Syl's consciousness, I think, comes from the Nahel bond. Nightblood's comes from the Breaths plus a Command. Seons come through mysterious processes that we don't yet understand. I would note that the one indication of Splintering that we have doesn't deal with the consciousness of a Shardholder, merely the Shard's Spiritual power. The power is what Odium Splintered from Aona. So I don't think it is accurate to say that Seons are "aspects of Aona's consciousness." That consciousness died. Its the power that is being split, and Seons could be those Splinters of Aona. (Part of the problem is that I would love to say "They are Splinters of Endowment" or some Shard name, but we don't know Aona's Shard, so we're using some imprecise language) Of course, they aren't just Splinters of Aona. Splinters are like Divine Breath, they are not sentient in their own right. There needs to be something else to give them that Cognitive power. This could be how Seons are "created." You grab those Splinters, and then give them an Aon to focus their consciousness. Or something. Now, Seons are certainly of Aona, so their Devotion/service aspect makes sense. They are Splinters of that Shard, and that Shard had a specific Intent which colors the way Seons act. That is very similar to the way Syl operates. I'd need to read Way of Kings again to see if Syl does, in fact, act like some fragment of Honor or something. However, that also has a problem, because it seems Honorspren aren't necessarily Splinters of Honor. That largely depends on when Honor died, so they could be Splinters, but we also need to be open to the idea that they aren't. The only Splinter we know of are the Divine Breath. Nightblood is a lot of interesting things, but I don't think those thousand Breaths he is Invested with makes him a Splinter. He's a different thing. Brandon's comments could simply refer to how things gain sentience rather than any information about Splinters. About the Reod thing -- I’m with CrazyRioter on this one. I could have sworn that Brandon said the Reod was just an earthquake. I guess you could blame it on Odium on killing the Shardholders, but that’s like saying that everything can be blamed on Adonalsium Shattering. Technically, it’s true, though it isn’t immensely illuminative.
  25. That reminds me of the time when I stayed in an Idaho hotel a few weeks ago. On the inside door, it had a few special Idaho laws. The first? Don't "illegally procure food". I am not making that up.
