  1. Oh. That makes more sense.
  2. Wow. That is exceptionally stupid. I'd like to think that kids are much smarter than that.
  3. I wasn't quite sure why Josh didn't do that in the first place. In fact I'm pretty sure we used his phone as a backup when we recorded the interview.
  4. Probably a good excuse, this way you don't have to see Peter Ourullian. Josh and Mi'chelle will be there, so if any of you guys are down there, be sure to say hi. They have an excellently long list of questions that I've procured for them. They also have a voice recorder, so citations will be much easier for now.
  5. We don't have a thread for ridiculously cute things. This is an oversight. So, I present to you, the most adorable kitten ever: http://www.dump.com/2011/07/29/india-the-kitten-video/ EDIT: No need to watch the whole video, just enough so you can see the cuteness.
  6. I'm late to the party here, but I did quite a bit of VB and C (no C# though), and that is a ridiculously cool trick.
  7. Yeah, it's great. I especially the desert music and the Mt. Kilanda (sp?) track. It pulls you right in.

    About Page

The about page went up quietly last week. What do you think of it?
  9. We’re just as interested as you are about The Alloy of Law coming out in November. It’s being marketed as a standalone, and it will be surely be excellent. Which begs the question: is this a standalone, or will we see other adventures of Waxillium? We found some information which suggests that, somewhere long down the line, there could be sequels to Alloy. Now, we don’t want to get your hopes up. Even if it is a series, they wouldn’t be coming soon (look what happened with Nightblood, the planned Warbreaker sequel). After Brandon completes A Memory of Light, he will work on Stormlight 2 and 3. He’s already said as much. That said, on JABberwocky Literary Agency’s website on Brandon, who represents him, there are some interesting pieces of information. Take a look at the list of titles. What’s The Alloy of Law labeled under? The Mistborn Adventures. Well, that’s sure interesting. The fact that it’s under a separate heading certainly implies that, at some point, there could be additional “Mistborn Adventures.” Scrolling down to the bottom, where foreign rights are listed, we see that Alloy is listed as “A Mistborn Adventure,” singular. However, in that list, Alloy is labeled as #1, whereas standalones like Elantris and Warbreaker are not. So, will there be other Mistborn Adventures? Quite possibly. But as we said, this will not be coming soon. Additional Mistborn Adventures aren’t even contract. Stormlight 2-4 are under contract, and so are the Rithmatist sequels (so if you didn’t already know, Rithmatist is a trilogy). That means there are many, many books in the queue before an Alloy sequel arises. Still, we can hope, right?

  11. I do not live in the Himalayas
  12. You mean Shardbearer, not Shardholder.
  13. Brandon confirmed that indeed, this is where the Kelsier backstory with Gemmel will be revealed.
  14. What do you mean?

  16. I found Final Fantasy Tactics Advance music on Youtube, and that led me to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles music. Man, this takes me back.
  17. And I really need to make a topic about the unpublished works policy. If anything its my fault, since you had no way of knowing that beforehand. Sorry about that.

  18. No, it wasn't wrong that you said that. Mi'chelle actually asked me to redact that part, so we don't all flood his inbox with requests. I was more concerned with the actual discussion itself. Thank you for understanding. I will be sure to let you know when there's a good section here to discuss Aether, okay?

  19. I'm going to make a very quick reply to your extensive theory, because I need to get some real writing done. So expect to see a more in depth analysis later. I personally think Shard-god is clunky. I prefer Shardholder, and that's been much more common here. Yes, it has the possibility of getting confused with Shardbearers, and Brandon doesn't like it because of that. However, Brandon says that when a person takes up a Shard, they become the Shard, so he probably wouldn't like Shard-god much more, either. We obviously need a term to distinguish between the Shard and its holder for theorizing. I like Shardholder because of the symmetry with Shardbearer, so aesthetically, it feels better to me. That hyphen in Shard-god bugs me. I have a direct quote which is related to why a Shardholder's mind is changed over time which you may like to see. I think you actually explained why Sazed can read minds right here, though inadvertently: His mind hasn't been molded to the Shard's intent yet, so in that respect, he is less "bound" to his Shard. So if that was the reason why Sazed can read minds, it would have helped if we saw Kelsier or Vin read minds. Vin, I am pretty sure, had not, but she was kind of busy. There may be a quote where Kelsier says some words of encouragement, and that would bolster this idea. I also thought in discussion of Power generates sentience that power can generate it, but it isn't needed to maintain the Cognitive aspect. Anyways, I'll make a bigger analysis later. Knowing the two of us and our conversations, it will probably be pretty big My gut reaction is that some things are a bit overly complex and it can be simplified, but there are a lot of good ideas here. Really, if Nightblood can read minds, Shards--having much more Spiritual energy--should be able to as well, so that was a good catch.
  20. The Mistborn tabletop RPG has been highly anticipated for quite some time, and now it is here, available for preorder from August 4th through the 7th. That weekend also corresponds to Gen-Con, and if you go at Gen-Con, you get the sexy cover image as a poster, which Ben McSweeney (aka Inkthinker) made. He also made 30 other illustrations in the book, and if the cover is anything to judge, it will be awesome. I want that poster. I want it badly. If you happen to go to Gen-Con, I will bribe you. http://www.crafty-games.com/content/mistborn-adventure-game-pre-order-details?utm_source=bsand&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=magpre The price for the game is $50, but it's well worth it. Why? Because there's new material from Brandon. From the site: I strongly suspect that the Gemmel short story will be some of the new fiction. That was supposed to tell the story of how Kelsier broke free from the Pits of Hathsin, and expand Gemmel (Kelsier's mentor) and his background. The Mistborn Adventure Game is going to be in stores this November, but by preordering the hardcover, you get the electronic version of the full game, as well as a "Mistborn Adventure Game Primer." So while the hardcover will ship as soon as it is back from the printer, the electronic copies will be sent when they are finalized (presumably sooner than November). UPDATE: Peter has stated on Timewaster's Guide that there will be additional Feruchemical properties revealed in the RPG. UPDATE 2: Brandon has confirmed that this is indeed where the Kelsier-Gemmel short story will be.
  21. Yup. It was on my agenda for today.
  22. That is an extremely trippy cover image, Ink. I love it. I'm excited to see what other awesome stuff you've done in there! That said... I'm going to pre-order this solely for the additional material on the Final Empire. I don't really have anyone around town to game with, but new content makes it worthwhile! I pride myself in being insane enough to spend $50 for information. Also, because I need to check how the new content meshes with what we've done our Mistborn forum RPG here. But mostly, new content! Wee!
  23. You are totally right. You are completely correct on the note on standard Surgebinders--that was a gross lapse of logic on my part. And yes, I was saying that spren were the focus as well as a prerequisite to the magic itself. So at worst, spren are not the focus, but rather the thing that gives a particular person the power to Surgebind. It's the corollary to the Shaod or genetics. Spren appear to grant the powers in sets of two's. Hey, I guess that standard Surgebinding analysis wasn't completely useless; we could probably agree that, if spren grant Surgebinding ability, they give two Surges at a time. Then, there would a completely different set of ten focuses, one specific to each Surge. I can live with that kind of a model. It would seem that the most likely possibility is some sort of Body Focus. It has focus in the term itself, which is a good start. We just don't exactly know what a Body Focus is. Like, "Soul." Other than having a great symmetry to Soulcasting, it's... really unclear how the soul focuses the magic. It isn't clear-cut like Aons, metals, or Commands. However, that could very well be because no one on Roshar has told us what the crap a Body Focus is. There could be some ludicrously easy logic to them which clears up the ambiguities. As I'm reading that, that seems pretty valid on its own right. I'm making another leap of logic and assuming that there are ten different spren which grant abilities, but if that is true, then that would explain the need for ten distinct orders of Radiants. Having ten distinct methods to access the ten Surges would also make a scholar think, "hey, we need to list them separately, and give them each a fancy glyph, since they aren't the same thing as the Radiants themselves." Roshar is a fairly cosmere-literate place, too, and so maybe they simply called them Body Focuses because they are, in fact, the focuses we are looking for. So you're right. I'm probably wrong. Regardless of how I think the spren-focus idea is damaged, I must still say that a focus could be the actual thing that grants you the ability. I'm... kind of tired (I've had four hours of sleep since my graveyard where I posted that last rant), so it'd probably be best for me to go to bed before I make a 3000 word analysis and miss something idiotic. Thanks for your awesome rebuttal, by the way. That was truly excellent. EDIT: You don't have to agree that spren give power, but I think that is a theory that makes sense.
  24. Sorry for closing your topic down. PM me if you have any questions.

I would also strongly recommend that you ask Brandon's assistant, Peter Ahlstrom, before distributing copies. You're welcome to do whatever, I suppose, but I was under the impression that when you get such a document, it is only you who has gotten permission. I'd ask Peter or Brandon before doing that.

  25. I may close this topic temporarily until the forum is outfitted with an Unpublished Works section, if we ever decide to make that happen. Right now my policy has been to avoid openly discussing the unpublished works (except for any public knowledge). This has mostly applied to Dragonsteel but should probably apply to all unpublished documents. You had no way of knowing this, so you have my apologies. The unpublished cosmere novels are not canon yet, and any given element can be cannibalized for a different project (like the Shattered Plains moving to Roshar).
