I know you've often been on this train, but considering the amount of people who don't even put things that should be in Cosmere Discussion, I think you'd have the exact same compliance issues. It doesn't solve any problems you list. I know you and I have discussed this, but I remain pretty convinced it would not be effective at doing what you want. (And in general, less boards are better.)
-
It isn't? So... here's the thing. With Tress, Yumi, and Sunlit getting their own forums (and their "individual" non-cosmere discussion boards weren't that successful), the forum list is really long. This is only going to be worse over time. We can and will move forums out of there if needed, but this is a low-cost way to make scrolling down here usable. The subforums are easily clickable from the home. I do suspect Elantris will get moved out once we get sequels. You must admit everything we put in Other Cosmere is vastly less active than the ones we left out. It's emphasizing stuff that has naturally occurred. I think also as time goes on, defining "major Shardworld" will get more challenging. I have had sufficient Coppermind discussions that ultimately, I think the term is mostly useless. The White Sand prose board is merged in with White Sand. This has gotten very fuzzy and unenforceable anyway, and there will be yet another version soon. This stuff will all be horrendously intermingled. Considering the other active part of the forums is the Community area, this condensing makes scrolling a lot more tolerable, with limited downsides.

I instantly went to watch this! I remember a while ago about Hannibal's crushing victory at Cannae, but man, it is so cool to go through it again. I love these videos.

Long Chills and Case Dough | Typos Thread
Chaos replied to PAS's topic in Sanderson Curiosities & Unpublished Works
I suspect Editorial is not going to correct typos in these--did they for Way of Kings Prime?--but in case they do, great! -
The Iridescent Tones, and the lack of a page
Chaos replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Ooof, my December and holiday period was far busier than expected. I am so sorry for the delay! Thumbs up from me on making a page, I definitely see what you are saying now, and in retrospect it's very obvious. This is great! I think my only concern is the History section. It seems to recount a lot of stuff that would, in my opinion, feel more appropriate for the Nalthis, Manywar, and Hallandren/Hanald pages. So I would try to focus to be solely about how the religion developed over those times, and cut out those other details. -
I've granted members an additional username change to help you. However, I may change this back to 2 at some other point.

For those listening to the audio, I know Wind and Truth now comes out December 6th; we recorded this before that was announced!

Brandon read an absolutely insane interlude for Stormlight 5 (now officially Wind and Truth) at Dragonsteel 2023, and so it's only fitting that we have our actually most unhinged Shardcast ever on it. This episode goes places, everyone. Are they insane tangents? Most of them... I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I had in editing it! Obviously, this episode contains Stormlight 5 reading stuff, but there are some Sunlit Man comments in it too. On this episode, we have Eric (Chaos), Evgeni (Argent), Grace (thegatorgirl), and Ala (Rasarr)! We are recording more WoBs this month. It won't come out on New Year's Eve. There are a lot of WoBs to do--including still some remaining from our interview--so I would not be surprised if there would be 3-4 episodes to get through everything.

You could probably go with just Redacted or REDACTED to have a very similar effect.
-
There's probably a list somewhere I could find, but I admit, not a top priority for me right now.

Those special characters are no longer allowed in usernames, sorry!

State of the Sanderson for 2023 is out, and so let's do a Shardcast stream discussing it! Featuring a lot of complaining about White Sand. We'll be doing this at a later timeslot than our usual streams, at 3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern! Read the State of the Sanderson 2023 here: https://www.brandonsanderson.com/state-of-the-sanderson-2023/ (Audio version will be out later, which I'll put in this post!) There's no way they would be notified you did it. That much I think is certain. I suspect the follower list still exists in the background but they wouldn't be notified any longer. But I don't have answers, I haven't tested this and probably won't have a chance to for the near future. There are lots of new things on the site and I don't think anyone is an expert.

Known issue, but seems to be just a software bug rather than our customizations. I haven't experienced it in normal threads. Not sure how to fix it but I absolutely agree it's frustrating and not how it should be. This should only vary depending on your device's viewport. It indeed is not present on the mobile editor toolbar. But on wider view ports (even landscape) it does appear, should you need it. Do you often need it?

All or nothing. Do note your posts are public anyway, remember. We don't tolerate stalking though so if you believe that is the case in any particular scenarios let us know. But yes, if you turn off that setting people won't be able to follow you. Up to you.

Initative and an observational eye. 1. The Prophet King is going okay, though I did not get as much progress as I would have liked this year. This term has been very busy. I'm halfway through part two of five, 80,000 words in. That's about a third of the way, maybe. As for your other questions, I think I need to make a blanket comment that my scant reading time tends to mostly just be Sanderson stuff. Maybe if he stopped writing so much I would have some more time... 2. Dresden Files; I've read all the mainline books. I have never been disappointed by reading one; they have always been good. I did start Codex Alera some amount of years back, but I didn't read enough of it to get into it, and other stuff got in the way so I put it down and never picked it back up again. Maybe when more Cinder Spires books have come out I could get into them. 3. Look, I will always recommend Asimov's Foundation series. I think it dealt with something like the Diagram much better. I clicked on that Recommended Reading list and I admit, way too intimidating for me to properly process. My TBR list of books I already own is probably a decade long, no joke. 4. I have not! I think Project Hail Mary would be first to read. Anyway, that is an extremely boring answer. I admit, I am not well read. Other staffers are much better read, I think because they can listen to audiobooks on commutes. Audiobooks do not work for me; it's hard for me to process the words, and when I listen, I just end up thinking, man I could read this in text so much faster. Obviously part of the appeal of audiobooks is that you can read at more times, like commuting, but I don't know. Reading in small increments every day sounds torturous... In my very lame defense, I conceivably have five different jobs. One is my tutoring coordinator job (the one that actually pays me). Then the second is any other classes I teach, like this last term which just ended today. Third is moderation and Shard work. Fourth is content creation for the Shard. And then, the one I really want to do is my personal writing. So, uh, if you wonder why I don't have time, that's why! There's so so many things I wish I had time to do, like more Coppermind editing. Realistically I need to shove tons of things on the backburner to be an author, which is what I really want to do with things.

The Welcome thread definitely may need adjustment to correspond to the new version, but yes, if they have the notifications set to notify for people they follow, it will be everything.
-
Yes, forum games are spammy so we disabled posts there from increasing the official post count.

I'm happy to answer this, but I suppose what context? This has vastly different answers depending on if it's a friend, romantic partner, coworker, or student.
-
Hah! No, I am not surprised. This happened a lot even in the earliest renditions of Shardcast in 2012, where people were very surprised what my voice sounded like.

Well, betas are always work, and I will admit there has been quite a lot of such work. I am pretty tired. But Defiant was a pretty fast and easy one, so that was nice So yes, I did! I do not mean to sound ungrateful. It's more just, sometimes throughout the process I've read the book 2-3 times before it comes out, and Brandon put out five books this year, so I've done a lot of stuff.
