Hi guys, The fifth Alcatraz Versus The Evil Librarians book, The Dark Talent, comes out tomorrow, September 6th. I would like to make a quick reminder about this book regarding spoilers. 1. Spoiler topics must be in the Dark Talent Spoiler board. 2. Do not put spoilers in topic titles. 3. For a period of two weeks--until September 20th--you'll need to mark topics in the Dark Talent board with [DT Spoilers]. In addition, during this period from the 6th to the 20th, you won't be permitted to put any spoilery content on the book outside of the Dark Talent board, even when you hide them with spoiler tags. The period where spoiler topics will be in the Dark Talent board will be nine months, after which the Dark Talent board will be merged with the Alcatraz stuff and you will not need to worry about spoiler tags. I don't imagine we'll have much difficulty here, unlike cosmere books (and especially unlike the chaos of Bands and Secret History). Basically: don't post stuff in General Brandon Discussion or General Discussion regarding this book and we'll be good. If you don't follow this policy, we may restrict your posting ability, suspend your account, or ban you. I've been told this is very important to do. Anyway, if you have questions, please feel free to ask here. I am cross posting this both in the Alcatraz forum and the General Brandon Discussion board for visibility.

I don't think so but hard for me to say. I do think the answer to that is no. Once streams are out I believe the most you can filter it is on a per-forum basis, not on a per-tag basis.

Um... this is one of those things that I still need to work on, to recreate the menu for these things. Stand by. They are a powerful thing but there was a little bit of funkiness. I don't think you can remove a specific topic from activity streams, though.

The first and third integrals don't have closed form anti derivatives and you'd need to use infinite series. That might not work great on the third one though, but works easily on the first. The second integral is easy. Rewrite it to e^((ln4)x) and use a u sub. The final integral is also very difficult. It may also not have a closed form antiderivative. But I am looking at these literally as I'm heading to bed. Long story short, as someone who has taught Calc 2 for many semesters, three of those integrals would be things I'd never ask. (Well, I could ask the first in the context of Taylor series.) So don't worry about it. There might be some crazy integration table thing for 2 and 4, but no one remembers that stuff nor is it important to derive the very hard integration table formulas. If it isn't taught in Calc 2 it is unlikely to be an easy thing.

Zach, the person running it, has been extremely busy. It's going to come back and do similar things to this.

Weeks, but not more than six weeks. I'm hoping 4-6.

I'm going to be traveling by myself, and I'm planning it myself. So I could go anywhere. Probably most places that are more English friendly (so cities), as it's been too long since I've taken Japanese and forgotten almost everything. It's kind of scary to fully plan the trip yourself... But I'm excited!

I'm going to Japan next year!!! I am so excited. Now I just need to, you know, plan it all. But I definitely am going in 2017.

I've done something very similar when someone made an alt account and tried to get people to downvote it. That was worse as multiple accounts are another rule breaking thing.

I'm putting a kibosh on this. This is basically downvote abuse in my opinion. It is not that the levels are supposed to be secret, but these numbers reflect a meaning about a post's quality and how the community views them. Doing this totally defeats the purpose of the entire exercise. People with such low rep are a strong signal that there is a problem and for regular browsers of the site, they are not meant to be pleasant titles, nor fun, but more of a punitive nature. To this effect: you will stop doing this. I am hiding your posts. If you ask to do this again, I'm banning you. I will also reset your rep total. This goes for absolutely anyone who tries to pull this. Am I being unfun? Probably. The negative reps are not supposed to be fun. Negative rep is supposed to be more serious. If a troll has a -10 on a post that means the community finds it extremely offensive. By doing this we dilute the system. Don't use your downvotes upon impulse. It is a way to counteract trolls without feeding them. It is powerful and you should take it seriously. (So, future viewers to the forum, if you're wondering what happened in this topic: this member asked to be downvoted, and I removed a lot of content regarding that and prevented this from occurring.)
