This might also be fixed when I do some site updates soon(TM) as that generally updates performance. But if it's an issue it is likely connected with IPS and not a lot I can directly do. Also you poor thing with 4GB of RAM. That is painful.
-
That's my plan. Eventually there will be so many pages as we outstrip the titles, which amuses me. I imagine we would get Episode 8's title no later than February right?

Hey guys thanks for letting me know about Silk. I'm going to try and contact her and if I don't hear from her I'll promote someone to be mod of this forum to manage it. I don't really have much skin in the game here so I don't know the mechanics of the email list, or who is especially active for this role. I'll need to investigate.

What the hell.

I'm terrible at poetry specifically because I have a very hard time listening to lyrics or remembering lyrics. In high school they'd just say, "But poetry is just lyrics of a song!" And I was the person who thought, "But... the lyrics are my least favorite part of a song." Just because my brain mishears them and/or can't focus on them. I know people who can hear a song for the first time and they get all the lyrics right first time. I'm the opposite xD. Needless to say this is a reason why foreign music is easy for me to listen to. I'd garble the English lyrics anyway so it's basically the same
-
I'm the weirdo who has a hard time even listening to lyrics, so yeah I can't imagine actually writing lyrics.
-
Makes sense. I think what I do is I just think about the scene a lot prior, then my outline is me just barfing the thoughts in my brain into the order that events occur. So I do a lot of that just up front.
-
No but you see I really don't make up stuff on the fly. If I have an idea then I'll outline and explore it to its conclusion in an outline form, then write it. I also tend to not write sequentially. I've often written chapters by writing dialogue first, with big brackets of [insert this stuff here] and I go back to write it later. No one could ever read stuff I write until I actually piece it together logically. Ultimately any writer should just work in such a way that they keep writing. I outline a lot so I know where I'm going, so it doesn't really matter if I want to work on a part of the scene that is after a conversation with these two characters. I skip around a lot. But if you don't that's totally okay. I'm a crazy person in my writing. (And in general, I guess.)

That would imply he comes to this site sometimes I mean, you nonoutliners are crazy. I can't even write a paragraph in fiction without knowing where it ends, much less anything else.

I mean the Lord Ruler is a fathery figure, kind of, so yeah I'll go with that.

We should try to minimize political discussion here. Thanks! This is a can of worms I don't really want to moderate, honestly. I've kept an eye on it and I am worried it is getting heated. I understand it is a very emotional moment. It is for me as well. But let's be cautious to everyone. I didn't shut this down last night because it seemed harmless enough and some people do need a bit of solace. But it's worrying me now. There's plenty of ways to cope. I've gone with drinking, personally.

That's fair.

I mean you can just look at the numbers yourself Many sites can do that. There's not much math to do in Utah when the vote is so large in favor of one person.
-
They do a lot of math to compute that. With a certain margin you can very easily determine the winner. Trump's winning in Utah 51% to McMullin 23.5%. That's 208k votes to 95k votes. You don't need to be a mathematician to say, "wow, that's a blowout." Additionally Utah is rather homogeneous, so it's very doubtful there would be any surprises. There won't be. Sorry. States they don't call have a very, very close margin. New Hampshire's margin is 96. That's right, 96 votes. Pennsylvania isn't quite that close, but really close. EDIT: My sources were Politico's totals, at the time of original posting. We'll see how it goes in a bit.

politics Aparently Nostradamus Predicts Election
Chaos replied to mattig89ch's topic in General Discussion
Proven impossible! I don't know, I just would expect that if people were truly prophetic they would write something some deep equation on a stone tablet somewhere, like the Dirac Equation or something, or the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. "Don't worry guys it'll make sense in a few thousand years!" Vague words mean nothing. And if I could come up with some sweet world-defining equation, then I'm publishing it and getting the Nobel Prize. Turns out though people way, way, way smarter than me are on the case though. I'm just saying that if I could see the future, I dunno, go look at some physics textbook in a thousand years and tell us some equations, okay? None of this vague crap.- 37 replies

Election results are not set in stone. We get to choose our leaders, so vote. Nothing is a sure thing and nothing is fated to occur here. All that matters is you and your vote So if you haven't done so, regardless of what candidate you like or dislike, go vote tomorrow. I generally find fortune and prophecies like that to be inherently ambiguous. Let's be honest, if they were specific there would be a lot more math in them- 37 replies

Yeah I agree, I was just kind of going quickly through it because I only had five minutes to write down my thoughts. I'm going with AU Spoilers. I should get that codified in a topic today or tomorrow.
-
That is purely because I am terrible admin and I haven't merged those back. I have a lot of demands on my time, unfortunately. Normally it is 6-9 months. This weekend (knock on wood) I am hoping to merge things. There's really no excuse there; it's quite easy to do in this system. Sorry for the confusion. I will endeavor to be more on top of things in that regard.

With the Drominad essay out, I realize we need to codify this. I had thought I had some more time to write it out. I'm at work at the moment but I'll give you the short version. There will be an Edgedancer subforum and it will act much as Secret History did. That's the easy part, now for the essays. I have personally advocated within the staff that we do not use a subforum of Cosmere Theories for this. That is because there will probably be relevant info for a lot of theories, so it doesn't make sense to split it out. However, we are going to require topics on that to have a tag like [Arcanum Unbounded Spoilers] and also to avoid spoilers in topic titles. I think that's a pretty good compromise. They do act a lot like WoB so as you say this is sensible to not use a subforum. I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this plan where we don't use a subforum for essay spoilers, and if the result is positive I'll get a specific policy post done soon.

Thanks for that quote! I will need to revise my thoughts on this. It seems this matter is rather central to the Shattering so I doubt we will get answers soon. I am, essentially now, the guy who didn't do their homework so -1000 points to me. Sorry.

That's the commonly accepted theory? I don't agree with that. That is totally different from the context of the first quotes where we heard of Adonalsium's opposition. I strongly do not believe this to be a group of people. The Vessels, I'm sure, were originally ordinary. There is no doubt in my mind that Adonalsium's opposition is a magical force that exists. It created a weapon and I presume that weapon was used against Adonalsium in the Vessels' plan to break it. I could be wrong but it's not an ordinary thing. It's not an organization of magic users or whatever the Vessels were prior to their ascensions. But that's a bit off topic, feel free to guide me to where people are commonly accepting such a theory and I shall make long posts to dissuade them. I'm pretty sure. I'm the guy who asked about this in signed books multiple times. I would bet money it is more than that. Anyway, I don't think it's safe to say that this is the dominant wisdom on the subject. Still, to the topic at hand. I do expect Stormlight to not be that heavy on the overall cosmere stuff. It'll probably remain Roshar centric.

Are there now only 15 shards because of Harmony
Chaos replied to Revan Kholin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The mechanics on why this is happening is that Sazed's mind is willing them together, causing the intermingling. It's hard to say the mechanics of Devotion and Dominion's Splintering, but it's not anything like Harmony. One could perhaps argue they aren't Shards anymore because the power is so Splintered. -
I believe the origin is much older than the Dark Alley. I believe it started in 2011 with Kerry giving out a lot of cookies to new members and then it got joked around that we spiked people, so much so that when the staff discusses promoting a new member, we call it spiking. So it's in that vein. But it's at least as old as 2011.
