And my idea of bringing Chrys into this RP is either you guys stumble across her and her clan on your trek, or my group of nomadic merchants might just happen to have camp set up around your group one morning when everyone wakes up, and the watchman has no clue how they got past him. Or if anyone else has any ideas I’m welcome to suggestions. You guys already did your shopping so I’m not sure if you want to stop at a merchant caravan so soon into your journey.

This looks fantastic!

I think it might be best if we just cross paths.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Welcome to the RP! Your character sounds great!

I’m with Tesh, it’d be easier if our characters crossed paths.

Orpheus looked to the one called Owlson. "So, what do you know of prophecies? And how do you know so much about magic? I heard you talking with Minuet about her Grace or whatever."

Some remarks: Orpheus left just after Gal said he was a magic researcher, so he wouldn't know too much about the questioning period, but being a magic researcher is a good reason to know about magic, though Gal's young age does rases the question. He also tried to be as far as he could from Talnic, who probably was on the front of the group, and Orpheus was said to be around the front too, but I can get how they'll still end up speaking, so:

Gal turns his head toward the kid with the prophecy. "How do I know so much about magic? Well, I'm a magic researcher. It's my job very definition to know a lot about magic. I wandered the world to learn as much as I could, questioning people like I did with Minuet. Actually, about Graces I don't know much, since they are rate to encounter. The nice thing about them is that they have visible evidences of magic-usage, which not all magics have." He says all that while watching carefully for Rosalie, his hand on his backpack.

Gal is not about to forget Rosalie for a while.

About @Ookla the Empyreal joining: welcome! (Yes, I know tagging doesn't work in a quote box, I didn't want to tag.) My character will basically go everywhere that can advance his knowledge about magic, and so he might've heard about these Draoidhs, and if they'll cross paths he will probably try interact with them. He has basically only two kinds of magic he don't want to deal with: prophecies, since he feels he has enough of them in his early years, and mind-influencing, which is kind of weird since his own magic is of that sort, though that's exactly the problem: mind-influencing magics tend to mess up with his magic.

I think Orpheus left because he was talking about the magic; he’s not that interested in other peoples magic. And sure, Orpheus hanged back to specifically target Owlson for speech.

Could he know anything about demons? Orpheus wondered. From what he knew, there were very few demons in existence, and he wouldn’t know how anyone could know about them. But this Owlson guy seemed smart, albeit a little annoying—but he had the spirit. But how to ask?

“Back in Zemel, there was a legend us townsfolk had about the forest there. Rumors of demons. Do you know anything about those at all?”

Posted

"Well, supernatural incidents are a little out of my domain, though it is close. I don't really know much about it, though I know someone who specializes in this domain, and I could contact him next time we stop in a village."

Gal seems to consider the discussion over, fiddling with his backpack a little.

I actually wrote a lot longer speech, but then decided it was a little out of character - not making a speech, but making a speech on this topic.

"You study magic?"

Gal turned to the elven girl. "Yes. That's actually why I came along; dragons' magic is said to be unique, and so I came to study it. Didn't expect to find myself tangled with prophecies." He shook his head. "Maybe I should just leave you when we get closer or something."

As Traige walked, he subconsciously turned on his Detection. Why not? There would be no people out here, and he was pretty good at hiding his abilities anyway.

A few minutes later, a return signal washed over him, faint but clear. He narrowed his eyes, looking at his surroundings. Not many people would be out here. He needed to investigate.

I think Traige is gonna spy on y'all before you see him if that's alright :P

Glanck it. (Glanck is my own version of a word that means nothing.) Do I need now to think of questions about a magic system I know completely nothing about?

BTW, do you think I should call him Owlson, since that's how you all know him?

When Gal started questioning, his attitude changed immediately to much more analytical and scholarlike, less of a boy aged 16.

"What generally can you do with those ribbons of yours? Does their color change with either time or spell you're casting? And do they produce smell only when activated, or the smell just gets stronger, and is actually always there?"

"Whoa. Slow down there. You're off on a misconception." Val motioned for him to back up with her hands. "The ribbons make the spells, not the other way around. It's kinda like alchemy, but I have all the ingredients with me all the time."

You see what I mean? Inquiring about magic systems I know nothing about is hard. I'll probably find myself learning about this magic system through trial and error.

Gal thought about it for a moment. "So, you compare this to alchemy, a magic systems used to make potions and change lead to gold with specific ingredients, yet you don't speak of potions, but of spells. You have the 'ingredients', as you call them, the ribbons, and will them to mix up in a way that produces the desirable result? Can you tell the difference between different kinds of ribbons, and know which should be mixed with which to get the result?"

BTW, Mat and Empyreal, why don't you try joining each other? Do you think it could be?

I only have a few basic ideas about this magic system. I'm yet to design it yet. Maybe I should go do that...

"I get most of my info from this book." Val tapped her spellbook. "Each of the ribbons do different things when combined with other ribbons which, unfortunately, leads to a very high amount of possibilities. The wizard who gave me this says that there are over a hundred thousand possibilities for how I can combine these; and that's just the base amount. You can include higher amounts or lower amounts of various ribbons, which means that, according to the math, means that there are more possibilities for what I can do than there are atoms in the universe."

In the moment Gal thinks he starts to understand things, he shoots questions, while opening his backpack and reaching to his notebook and pen.

"Wow. How many ribbons are there? Do all of them accompany you all the time? Does one ribbon have a general rule for how it affects the spell? When mixing them in the same ratio but in different amounts, does the results stay the same?" He stops questioning, thinks for a moment, then asks: "also, could I borrow your book?"

While questioning, he completely forgets he should be wary of Rosalie, leaving his backpack open, though not enough that things will start fall of.

I would've quoted you, Mat, but I'm on my phone, so I'll tag you. What I thought of was that maybe the group you sensed was the Draoidhs of Empyreal's. If you think it's still better that it'll be us go ahead.

"There are six naturally-occuring ribbons. They're each one of the colors of the rainbow. Usually you can't see them, but they occasionally appear depending on my mood or if I'm using them." At the next questions, Valzwyn scratched her head. "Master said that each ribbon probably has its own properties, but it's easier to measure how each ribbon interacts. I have all the base interactions listed in my spellbook. I can mix them at the same ratio, but I don't tend to do that very often, because I'd have the change the ratio by a lot to really affect the spell's output, and I just don't have the resources for that. What I can do is use dyes to temporarily boost my fumes. If I give a fume a dye similar to its color, it'll get a lot bigger."

"So I understand the ribbons are limited in amount. After using a ribbon in a spell, does it need time to recharge, or do you have to charge it with a dye? Is dye-charging temporal, or until you use the ribbon in a spell? And each ribbon is actually named a fume, I understand. Can you list right now the six basic ribbons' effects?" Gal tries to write everything in his notebook, though he keeps walking. He write as quick as he can everything he can gather from the elven girl's - the Fumeweaver's - words.

"It'll recharge on its own, though I get really hungry when it does. Master said that's because it draws off my own energy. Dyes are optional, but they're useful. I haven't seen any of my fumes go down after I've recharged them, naturally or no. As for the effects... I'm not entirely sure. Like I said, it's easier to measure how they interact."

"When do they stop recharging, if at all? What emotions are connected to each color, and when you feel those emotions does the fume related to those feelings get stronger?" Gal seems a little exited by all the information, and sounds like he'll never be out of questions.

Though I will, in the near future. I'm not sure how many questions I could produce.

"Master and I decided to say that a full fume has two... uh... I guess you could call them 'doses.' The most basic spells just call for a single dose of a fume, but those don't have any notable effects, and in order to get something interesting out of the fumes, you have to take fractions of doses and mix them together. Here... maybe I can demonstrate." Valzwyn began concentrating, then opened her eyes as the six fumes became visible. "Great. It worked."
