"Okay. Just let me know when you want me to stop."

Rosalie noticed the girl, Val as she remembered, crying. She walked up. "What's wrong?"

"N-nothing. I'm okay now."

"Smart of you. What did you say your name was?"

"I'm Valzwyn. You can call me Val or Wyn."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Val. I'm Minuet, if you didn't hear earlier."

I just realized that Minuet and Crescendo have a similar personality. Shoot. Eh, whatever. It's different enough that they'll be fine.

"I... Master Feldspar... he was my best friend for three years."

"That sounds hard. I assume something happened to him and that's why you came here?"

"After we finished my spellbook... or, well, we never really finished it... but after we finished what we thought we needed to know, he sent me back home. I had visited me parents for, like, the holidays and stuff, but he said it wasn't healthy for me to be away from them for so long. We were pen pals for awhile, but then his messages stopped coming, and... then news reached out house that he had died one night." Val took a deep, shivering breath. "And then my parents sent me off to school anyways."

"That's terrible. So you didn't even get to say goodbye or anything."

Alright, whatever grand plans I had for 400th post will wait.

Orpheus had just listening, yet he felt the need to comfort. He ignored it. What comfort could he be?

He walked by himself, close enough to listen. He hummed to himself an ancient tune he had learned years ago.

"My parents didn't get it. Oh, we understand, honey." She shook her head, sniffing again. "They don't."

"No one ever really can."

"Sometimes parents can be like that. I wouldn't know, but I hope yours get better."

“I have some experience in the department of bad families. I mean... if you ever need to talk to anyone... I’ve always had Memory to confide in. I can’t imagine what it would be like without having anyone who understood.”

Orpheus goes back to tossing the sheathed knife in the air and catching it again, careful not to bonk his head. A habit he had fallen into as he thought.

As Traige walked, he subconsciously turned on his Detection. Why not? There would be no people out here, and he was pretty good at hiding his abilities anyway.

A few minutes later, a return signal washed over him, faint but clear. He narrowed his eyes, looking at his surroundings. Not many people would be out here. He needed to investigate.

Talnic turned to face the others who had drawn to a stop behind him, curious. Oddly, Valzwyn seemed to be crying. Talnic watched the scene unfold with interest, but kept his distance. It would be best if he didn't meddle in things he didn't understand.

However, as he watched, the faint sense came to him that he was being watched. To the left, back in the trees a ways. It had taken Talnic several months to learn to interpret the promptings from the ring, but now it was as instinctual as breathing.

He pulled out his knife, and began creeping through the snow towards the hidden person, hardly making a sound.

@Ookla the Empyreal Feel free to jump in whenever you'd like! You can meet up with Talnic and Triage, the main group, or wait a little.

Orpheus noticed Talnic draw his knife and tensed, on the alert. He sensed something... but how? Orpheus looked around but didn't see anything. Where...

There.

He could sense someone.

I wasn’t sure. That conversation kind of trailed off. We can talk more, if you want?

No, that’s all right. I wasn’t sure either, so I thought I should ask.

I think I’ll wait a little, it doesn’t make sense for my trader camp to be that close to your group right now, especially since no one of your group has sensed another group of magical people in the vicinity.

I’ll do another paragraph or so by myself (I’ll post in a little bit, I need to work on the timing) Chrys needs to find something at the site she noticed, and then she can stumble across your group, or someone scouting ahead can find her.
Whatever works for you guys.
