Cadenza created a pillar of ice underneath her. She peeked over the edge and waved, smiling cheekily, then dropped a ball of ice over the edge, sending it at Trace.

It bonked her on the head. Ouch. Ouch. How did a chunk of ice hurt more than the bullet of all things?

Trace shattered the pillar with her power.

Lloyd flew back and hit hard, luckily he had a veil to be envied and he got up without a scratch on him.

"Who's Jack?"

"Some friend of Jay's. He got us here."

Cadenza fell through the air. Thankfully, she'd expected this. She spun in the air and landed on her feet, using her momentum to slide for a while.

Trace stopped her with another burst of force sent to the face for a good 'ol fashioned BONK.

As Maddy ran, she studied the waves. She had learned to multitask with her brain during a battle long ago; her Aspect required it to function at full capacity. The dancing patterns blossomed into paragraphs of description, or bloomed in an image of ink on a page. And Maddy shoved those thoughts into her legs.

She flew upward, propelled by the blast in an arc aiming towards Trace. In mid air, she grabbed her dagger from off the strap on her leg and poised it to strike Trace's arm. She didn't want to kill the girl, not yet.

Cruz woke up from his dreams with a gasp, and took a moment to take in his surroundings. He was still in the cave, with Trace. There were no ashes, no betrayals of friendship. Those were just memories.

But... Cruz was alone. Trace had gone? And he heard something in the distance.

Cruz jumps to his feet and quickly arms himself, then exits through the mouth of the cave.

911th post... huh.

Trace ran at her, grabbing for Cadenza's arm.

Cadenza slicked the ground. It was at times like this that she could see why the academies had said she was "too weak" to make a good Duster. There wasn't much she could do in a split second. But she'd proved them wrong before. Now she'd do it again.

Trace didn't react quickly enough. The knife dug deep into her arm, making her scream. Foolish military weirdo.

She grabbed Maddy's arm, pulling her forwards, then grabs her own dagger and stabs it hard to where she guessed Maddy's chin to be.

Vespyr stood through all of these, unamused.  Really.  REALLY.  This was what that girl had wanted, to just show off to some old friends, to try to hurt what inner-sense of self there was in that body?  Vespyr almost groaned, but... no one even cared about how inconvenient this was for the creature.

It stiffened, then sensed something, almost as if... As if it could SEE Cruz.  It turned, and a pillar of air formed at the mouth of the cave.  He could step out and glide down to safety.  Hell.  If these children wanted to stab each other for practically no reason, who was Vespyr to get in the way? @Knight of Iron

Of course... if Trace asked for help, Vespyr would step in.  Or if Trace was majorly injured or incapacitated.  The child had walked into this expecting to come away the victor.  It was a character-building lesson.  What child wouldn't take getting crushed by a giant ball of solid ice as a good life lesson?

As Trace screamed, the voice of the wind echoed in the air, audible to all.  "Was this the plan?  If so, great job."

Sarcasm, yes.  Nothing had really been able to eradicate it completely, and Vespyr didn't even feel guilty for using it so freely.

When her knife struck true, it almost caught Maddy off guard. The way this had been going she had expected to miss.

Thankfully, Trace's counterattack only grazed Maddy's chin- but the movement still threw her to the ground. She groaned slightly but stood up, wiping the blood off her chin. She examined the smear on her hand, imagining what the shape could be. This in turn fueled her Aspect in a slightly greusome way, though it worked. She shot a blast of energy at Trace and stepped back.

"What's our objective here?" She shouted at Cadenza. "Kill? Capture?"

"Kill," Trace confirmed, dodging the energy and ramming her dagger into Maddy's shoulder.

Maddy's Veil helped a little, though the blow still hurt considerably. She stepped back, weakly sending another energy blast Trace's way. They were losing. How were they losing? Where were the others?

Cruz looked at the pillar of air, hesitant. Must be the Siren and their strange air manipulation, the likes of which Cruz hadn't seen before. Cruz stepped firmly into the pillar of air.

Deciding that the military wimp had been taken care of, Trace turned back to Cadenza.

His weight was enough to carry him down through the pillar of air without him being harmed.  It was surreal, as if Vespyr had known instinctively just how much force to use.

Cruz eyes Cadenza and the others. "You're just suggesting I just leave you here?"
