I got one!!

Ok people who experience attraction, uh what's the point??? I mean like most of us are teenagers, and high school relationships don't usually work out, so I guess what I'm asking is what's the big deal of having a s/o in high school.

Mostly, I agree with what Truthwatcher said. There shouldn't really be a "big deal" about it, though. I've never had a boyfriend, and it certainly doesn't look likely that I will in the near future, as the only guys who have ever liked me are either idiots or I only see them as a friend. Like Truth said, crushes just...happen. You want to be around them all the time, your day instantly becomes better when you see them, talk to them, or if they smile at you. The simplest things they do make you feel happy and nervous at the same time. The "point" as you asked of relationships, in my opinion, is to learn. Future relationships shouldn't be the first, you could make a mistake that could have much worse consequences in the real world than it would in high school. I had a bad experience with a guy, I won't elaborate because then I'd go into a full-blown rant, but I really liked him, he said he liked me, he was a player, nothing happened, then I realized he was an idiot when he ditched a super great girl to go to a party with his psychotic ex-girlfriend. Dating should be a way to get to know people, find out what you're looking for in a future spouse, and nothing more. If you go on one date with someone, that's all it is, don't make it a big deal unless you want to. So, yeah. The point of relationships in high school is to find out what you want in a partner.

^^^ ALL OF THAT. Figuring out how to do things for later on, figuring out whether it’s even for you, what you like, what you don’t, experimenting, that’s what relationships - whether friendships or romance - are for imo. As well as just...companionship. People usually want to interact with other people somehow, it’s natural. Which doesn’t mean that everyone wants that, or that’s those who do want it all the time, or that people have to want the same types of interaction - for example, aros vs allos (I think that’s the term? Yell at me if not), or someone who wants in-person friendships vs someone who prefers long-distance ones.

And yeah, I’ll reiterate that it’s less a choice than a preference. If you like someone, you just like them, same as friendships or family members. You probably know why you like them, but you rarely decide to like someone. You just find yourself doing it.

Edit: anyway, I like having crushes! Gives you one more thing to work toward/think about when sad.

Crushes are like fishsticks. They're both painful to swallow.

How are crushes painful to swallow? I can see them sometimes being that, but how are all of them?

Simple, you like the person. So when you eat them, it hurts a bit, on the inside of course.

It also hurts them. And I am not a cannibal, so I would not ever eat my crush that I no longer have.

Honestly, I think having a significant other shouldn’t be a big deal in high school. High school, at times, can be not a great place, and sometimes things like that can add to the stress. Though if it’s a healthy relationship, then it can really help you a lot. You just have to stay out of trouble.

In high school, I think it’s best to just stay friends. Making things official can become a source of stress, and make things more serious than they maybe should be at that point. I’m not discouraging having and sharing your feelings for certain people, because if the feeling is mutual, then that can make you even better friends and give you someone you can really lean on (that’s been my experience).

I think if you’re referring to someone who experiences romantic attraction they’re alloro, and allo is for sexual attraction.

I just love how this thread has turned into all about relationship advice, and the girls thread has turned into people forcing makeup onto each other.

Of course! What else did you expect?

I don't know, I guess I always thought girls were supposed to be the ones talking about boys and all that stuff. I guess most of the people talking about relationships on here are girls anyway, so.... I guess it would make sense that the girls immediately infiltrated the boys thread to lecture* to them about how they should treat girls...

*There's actually some really good advice on here

I'm going to try to slowly lead "Girls Only" towards tea time instead of makeovers. Most people probably have tea to spill, right?
