That thread you wandered into to find out why I changed my pronouns. I have a lot of free time on my hands, especially when nobody’s online. I also read a bit when I was question. It was disturbing how much it would resonate. Yeah… I mean tbh I should probably be more careful with what I say because I am worried I pressure individuals into pursuing a genderqueer path without necessarily putting their best interests in mind 1 hour ago, Factor said: I’ll ask my parents for new clothes soon and try subtly doing that. But we both prob need to go to sleep right now (judging from your posts) so we can do that tomorrow if we’re online. hah I am sleepless 1 hour ago, Factor said: Yeah I do live with parents. They’re open allies, but like… my mom is always like “so, do you like anyone? any pretty girls? Or guys, if you like guys that’s perfectly normal” but she actually rarely talks about trans. Like, I know she supports it, but I can’t think of a time she really mentions it. She did buy a birdhouse today with a pride flag hanging in front and scared me for a second. And my dad… he is an open ally, but didn’t exactly grow up as one, and is trying really hard to change on all those things, but he’s still… him. Very masculine. And he’s always like “men should always have money with them” “why is your hair so long, it’s rather… feminine. WAIT NO ANYONE CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT OOPS” “men should whatnot” and it usually makes me want to bash my head into a wall. Gently. So… I don’t know what his reaction would be. Tbh they don't sound terribly unsupportive. Depending on your age and/or reliance to them, they could be receptive, but you might need to prove that it's something you really do care about/want them to take seriously. 1 hour ago, Factor said: If you didn’t guess, I’m not out to them… hmmm understandable. Parents don't have to be the first people you come out to in real life either, something to keep in mind. 1 hour ago, Factor said: That would be easy. My mom actually often tries to convince me “boys paint their nails too! You should do yours!” so I could definitely do that. stopped painting my nails a long time ago cause it didn't feel like authentically me. While hyper feminine stuff appeals to me sometimes the chance I'd actually wear something like that is super low tbh. But maybe. nails and stuff isn't that hard to get started on assuming you have the means of obtaining them and the money. But it is neat to try. I found it strangely soothing. 1 hour ago, Factor said: hmmm yeah I already shave my face Shaving your legs is fairly simple. It can also be something to experiment with if you want to try something. In the spoiler below is a more detailed guide for how to do that if you're curious Spoiler So basically, you need a shaving razor. And a shower. Those are the basic necessities. For a razor, it's kinda important that you don't use the same thing you use to shave your face to shave your body, because that's not great for hygiene. See if you can find another razor thingy in your house (your dad might have multiple he doesn't use and you could probably borrow one (with or without permission, they probably won't notice or care)) You can also use things like exfoliants and shaving cream or whatever if you wish, but you don't need to. So basically, you get into the shower, and you probably want to take a normal shower first, but once you're done that, you basically want to leave the water running and you uh, you literally shave your legs. To be more specific, you'll get the best results by bringing the razor up the leg rather than down (if you care). You are rarely at risk of cutting yourself with a proper razor, but you want to make sure your blade is clean beforehand so if accidents do happen they don't get infected or stuff. Basically just glide the razor across your skin and the hair will come off. You may need to remove hair that gets stuck in the blade (I do this by tapping it gently against the shower floor thingy whatever it's called) or it will lose effectiveness crazy fast. Running water over the area you're shaving will help a lot. Please do yourself a favor and make sure that the water is WARM- if you use cold water, you will get goosebumps and end up cutting yourself because your skin isn't flat. This happened to me once, and it was rather awful and it was a lot of blood (granted, it was a GLACIAL shower, but still). But you likely won't cut yourself on your first go. With areas closer towards the foot and the foot and the kneecaps and under the knee, you'll want to be more gentle. The rule of thumb I was taught and still use is that you should apply half the pressure you would to shave your face to your those specific places because it is easier to cut yourself there and that would hurt because you move your joints often. Remember to be careful and do it slowly. On average, it'll probably take about a full hour to completely shave your legs the first time you do it. That's about how long it took when I first did it, but the feeling is very affirming for a lot of people who are dysphoric over body hair. You can (and probably should) search for other guides for how to this kind of thing cause this ain't a comprehensive guide but maybe this will help if this is something you're interested in! 1 hour ago, Factor said: Yeah.
