Queen. Do you remember me?

She began pondering what might be wrong. Winter seemed to steal emotions, so perhaps he took everything away, not just the pain. Would she have to do the same thing she had done for Nath? She wasn't sure she wanted that many people knowing her thoughts and feelings.

Fox said nothing. She had discovered over the years that promises never meant anything. People always said that they wanted to help you, they promised that they would, but what happened? Her... sister had promised to help, her brother promised to help, Nath had promised to help, but where were they? They had all abandoned her. And now this Queen promised to help? It was a never-ending cycle of trust. Fox was weary. She was weary of the cycle. She would not allow herself to fall back into it once more.

This Queen had access to all of her thoughts, and at a whim, could reveal them to the world. No matter how many things this person did to show themselves 'trustworthy', there would be no way for Fox to know what was really going on in their brain. Fox addressed the person, I do a little bit, however I believe my mind should stay my own. Please kindly extract yourself from my brain, or I will be forced to do it myself. I give you until the count of three.

Wait!

Queen knew that Fox probably didn't trust her, so she needed to do something. Fast.

will help you! Let me...let me show you.

Then she tore down the barriers of her mind. Not in the same way she had with Fadran, this wasn't overwhelming. The point was to show all of her thoughts to Fox, prove her honesty and trustworthiness, not try to protect her thoughts. Instead, it would be a slow wave, like standing on the shore of a calm sea, the waves lapping against Fox's toes. Able to see all of the information, but not be crushed by it.

I promise.

Queen didn't specify her promise; there was no need. Fox would understand from the thoughts.

The wood of the hall becomes the waves of the ocean. Storm winds create a hurricane. Violent waves crash. Angry fists consume all. Burning bolts of lightning strike icy waves. Steam flies skyward swirling as a maelstrom. Wall after wall fall crushing all that sits beneath it. Booming cannons of thunder roar. Stinging rain pours from on high. Endless seas rage.

James stands at the crest of a wave. Inexplicably, the liquid surface is firm beneath his feet.

Rain spatters against him, soaking him to the bone. He shivers in the powerful wind.

For just a moment, a flash of lightning illuminates what almost seems like a face- large, ancient, and powerful.

The sodden figure looks up at the distant skies and asks a single word.

"Why?"

In the illumination of a lightning strike, James sees the silhouette of a figure with an outstretched hand- although whether in greeting, supplication, or warning, he cannot ascertain.

A moment later the waves open up beneath him, allowing the hungry deeps to claim him in their embrace.

---

James stumbled to a stop, breathing deeply.

He was beginning to understand now- feel the 'layers below layers' the old man had spoken of. Dreams rigged to ensare any who passed through these halls unwanted.

Somehow, though, they weren't working on him. Or at least- not working properly. Otherwise, he wouldn't keep returning, time after time.

Answer me, Fate, he thought. Why have you brought me here?

At that moment, he heard the sound of a door opening and soft footsteps venturing out into the hallway.

Vapor opens the door and peers out, walking into the hallway when she sees no one.

James turned a corner and walked more or less straight into the girl.

"Oh!" he exclaimed in surprise. So there are people who live here, he thought.

The hall explodes in a wave of white hot sand. Suffocating mountains burst into existence. Snakes and scorpions swarm over this realm. They bite and sting all with venom of the most lethal sort. Predators lunge and tear out flesh as the sand is tainted by blood. The sun beats down and shrivels all mortal flesh. Withering winds fill the air with chocking clouds that blind the eyes and take all air from those who have breath. Mirages assault the mind and the sands offer immortal slumber. II beckons and offers eternal kindness,

Not so fast. If you are going insist on high jacking this part of the story you will have to try harder.:D Seriously though,  what is happening? A Random character shows up and has the power to break into a mindscape? Had we talked this through I probably would have said great let's figure out how. It's a little annoying in placement because it seems to stall Rish's part of the story. That can be worked around though. Random power which essentially destroys any concept of mindscapes as I laid them out carefully. Truthfully a bit annoying.

Fox looked at the information about Queen. Some of the information was very interesting. The girl's honesty, though, was surprising to Fox. It could all be a ruse. Somehow, it could be more of that voodoo trickery that Winter and Nath played with. Even if it were true, the promise was still just that... a promise. Fox sighed. She had seen similar things in Nath, and where had that gotten her? This person seemed to be sincere, but so did Nath. She seemed to want to help, but so did Nath. She seemed to have the means to help, but so did Nath. Even if she was sincere, and could help, people change. Someone who could help you one day could stab you in the back the very next day.

James refrains from gasping this time. He's beginning to get used to this.

He does feel a slight bit of alarm when he feels his feet begin to sink into the sand, however.  He carefully takes a few steps to ensure the ground does not swallow him whole.

- His hand brushes against a rough wooden wall -

Suddenly he notices that the girl is in front of him, picking a flower from a desert cactus. With mounting shock, James sees the shifting sands around and realizes that a monster lies in wait beneath. He calls out to talk to her, to warn her, but she does not seem to hear. Unbeknownst to the danger, she pricks her finger on a cactus spine even as she plucks the flower. A droplet of her blood falls to the ground below, and as soon as it hits the soil, the monster moves.

The girl disappears in an avalanche of sand. In surprise, James realizes that without him realizing it, the sand has swallowed him up to his waist. He is helpless to move as the wave of tarnished gold washes over him.

---

"Who are you?" asks James, thoughts whirling in his mind. "And can you tell me where here is?"

Perhaps a discussion on the nature of dreams is in order? Then again, the last time I attempted a convocation to resolve story issues, it... didn't end well. So perhaps it would be better to let things play out as they will.

Fadran took a breath, then delved into his mind. He connected his physical self to the Mindscapes, Bonding his spirit to Nathrangking. He couldn't quite describe the process that followed--though, granted, a lot of things he did couldn't be described--but somehow to traversed thousands of Universes and realities in a fraction of a second. In a blink of an eye, they were back, standing right by Nathrangking.

"Hey... I think it worked." Fadran said, then promptly fell over and passed out.

You have no one to blame but yourself for saving Fox. (I don't actually know what Winter's going to do, I just have a feeling...)

Queen glanced toward him worriedly, but couldn't focus on him. She brought Fox's motionless body to Nath's side, then, noticing that he was unconscious, gave him some herbs for the pain, then one to wake him up from his blackout.

Quick updates

Vale walks into the Rusty Vial and looks around for signs of the Fellowship, like explosions, shouted conversation, or rips in the space-time-continuum. Seeing none, he sits down at the bar and orders a meal. He hasn't eaten in what feels like weeks.

Patch usually can't feel pain, but the story of the dagger is full of what it must be like. He drops it on the floor and tries to get further from it, but is overwhelmed by the psychic onslaught it presents.

Uh, Xino, did Brian and Jeffrey leave Prime's realm or are they still awkwardly standing there? :P
