"We all know of powers outside our own realms of expertise. Law of Infinity and such. Is that really the point?" Prime snaps his fingers and the throne room disappears. In the darkness, he snaps again, and a tiny light, unimaginably bright appears in his hand. "This is the Big Bang of this Universe. I trapped it within a single moment here, so it can never progress. All the power of an entire universe lies between my fingers. If I allowed it to proceed on it's natural course, only I know how it would end up. Similarly, Vapor's mind and skills have immense power. The actual amount or nature of that power doesn't matter. What does matter is that allowing her to progress naturally is the only way we'll find out how her universe will end up. I can show her one possible timeline that she might experience or one thousand, and it may turn out that none of them are correct. It may turn out all of us are wrong."

Rish is unmoved by the speech. "The Prime is correct. The girl must be allowed to decide on her own. She can create her own destiny. Who are we to drive her in ways that she does not wish to go?"

"You say that I speak boldly?" said the Fallen King with amused incredulity. "Listen to yourself. 'I am inevitability.' 'Divine Laws rule all.' The mimes are pretty full of themselves, but even they recognize that no single, unchanging law could ever govern a reality of multiple Authors." He laughed openly. "And the fact that you even bother to mention Aridith... well, your colleague's encounter with him hardly ended well, did it?"  He snorted. " And this apocalyptic threat? The leader is holding it off without so much as breaking a sweat. Explain how they're doing better than you, if you're supposedly so much more powerful than they."

Rish begins to laugh. It is a cold thing which floats upon the air. For the first time she breaks a cold predatory smile. "Its a funny thing. You fail to realize that all began somewhere. there are permanent realities that are immutable. That they fail to recognize the rules of creation is proof of foolishness. As far as my colleague, Baalhan is a lesser god. He is nothing. Aridith defeated him for he was always weak. You doubt that which threatens all. It began only hours ago. In hours there is no unity in days they will sweep across all realms and the you will know fear."

I turn back to Vapor. "You must trust yourself. Only you can know what is right for yourself. I can guide you, but only if you let me."

"I dare say this again;..." Winter began, but cut off as a body materialized, then a second. The sphere of night surrounding the castle disappeared with a clap, and the first body fell to the ground;

"I would love to see you grow," said Jeffery earnestly. "If that's what you want. But if the mimes get their hands on you..." He shuddered. "They can make you forget who you are. Turn you against everyone you once loved. And they will. I..." he trailed off. "I don't want to lose you again."

Rish is silent as Jefferey speaks. She look into the eyes of the girl. When Jefferey has concluded she allows some emotion to creep onto her face. "They say that I lie about protecting you. Words are a cheap thing." She closes her eyes and begins to mutter in the language of creation. A necklace of rubies as fresh blood and sapphires as the sea appears in her hand. In the center is a massive amethyst carved with wild and yet still intricate and elegant runes. She holds it out to Vapor. "This holds my blessing. No agent of natural death can harm one who wears this. Take it. It is my gift to you regardless of what you decide."

Wind suddenly begins to whirl around Rish's head.

In it, a voice can clearly be heard.

I am not your kin, thank you, says the voice, with a soft, cold edge. You would do well to avoid making that mistake again.
