+Slowswift Posted June 15, 2025 Posted June 15, 2025 (edited) Had to attend a different ward from the usual one today, as I have work. I'm glad I did, though, because the sacrament service today was entirely hymns suggested by the congregation, something I've been a part of a few times and I love! (Some pretty obscure hymns in the mix, too.) Also Sunday school was great, which is (sadly) a rare occurrence for me. The Spirit was there and the teacher was engaging and I didn't fall asleep! I'll always remember one time when I was young, on our way back from a youth temple trip, our Bishop told us that he had once been doing baptisms and the name that came up was Ronald MacDonald. He said everyone there just couldn't help themselves and cracked up laughing, right there in the temple, for a good minute or two. 4
ChipsAHoid He/Him Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 Oh my I finally found a place to talk about this at I was at FSY (EFY for you Utah peoples. If you don’t know either, church camp for youth) last year (ward boundaries got reworked so I get to go again this year too!! Very excited, that was the best week of my life) and at 3am the fire alarm went off so all the young men had to go wait outside for an hour, and then the next day we learned that the lady at the reception desk put pop tarts in the microwave and set off the fire alarm. Anybody else have crazy FSY/EFY stories if they went to those? 1

Mason Wheeler Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 I'm honestly surprised that there are still so many people who aren't familiar with the whole DHMO joke. I remember it was making the rounds back when I was in high school, in the 1990s. Here we are 30 years later; how has everyone not heard of it?

It’s probably because Big DHMO has done an excellent job keeping the dangers under wraps. Next thing you know they’ll be putting it in baby formula and calling it “essential”… 4
ChipsAHoid He/Him Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 I was bored last night so I opened up to a random page in the Book of Mormon, and ended up starting at 2 Nephi 13, and in 2 Nephi 13-14 I swear I found Elantris. Also, technically spoilers for Elantris but like that was published in 2005 so I'm not gonna put spoiler boxes for a book that came out 20 years ago. Also, I may be wrong on some of these, it's been almost a year since I last read it so I might be slightly misremembering. 17: Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the Daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts Sound a bit like a princess from Teod? Or I suppose just the Shoad in general. Anyways, 18-23 are just talking about how they'll lose all their useless stuff like "tinkling ornaments, rings, fine linen, etc.", which I suppose does happen to the people when affected by the Shaod, they lose all their things and are cast into Elantris. 24: And it shall come to pass, instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle, a rent; and instead of well set hair, baldness; and instead of a stomacher, a girding of sackcloth; burning instead of beauty. The sweet to stink reminds me of how the city went from "Beautiful, once so very beautiful..." to the mess it is during the book. It talks somewhat about how the fancy clothing is gone, like how all the Elantrians end up wearing basically rags. INSTEAD OF HAIR, BALDNESS. This is what made me notice a lot of the parallels. Burning instead of beauty reminds me of how fire is one of the few reliable ways to kill an Elantrian. 25: They men shall fall by the sword and they mighty in the war. This seems very close to how almost all of the soldiers, including Raoden go Hoed or die. 26: And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she shall be desolate, and sit upon the ground. This reminds me of how Elantris becomes a very desolate and sad place. Next chapter! 1. And in that day, seven women shall take hold of one man, saying: We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel; only let us be called by thy name to take away our reproach. While the people who go to Raoden are not necessarily women, there are still people who go to him and are like "Ok, we'll work with you for food" 3: And it shall come to pass, they that are left in Zion and remain in Jerusalem shall be called holy, every one that Is written among the living in Jerusalem- This reminds me of how the people left in Elantris that didn't die become full Elantrians again. 4: When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgement and by the spirit of burning. The seems similar to how the filth of Elantris and the Elantrians gets cleaned when they figure out about the chasm line. 6: And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and a covert from storm and from rain. This reminds me of how when restored to its full glory, like how it was before, Elantris is a refuge, a place of healing and wonders. The parallels between the two are quite interesting. Thoughts on how Elantris matches this passage? (No I didn't spend like a whole hour writing this ) 2
Keke They/he Posted June 23, 2025 Posted June 23, 2025 One thing I hear often is there's a point to everything. A reason. A detail. God wont put us through something without knowing thar it will havr reason. But im at a loss. I xant see a reason. I cant see a purpose. Why the hell is he having my mom barely be able to support keeping the house. The one thing left in my family thar hasn't changed. The one thing thats still in one peice. If she does t get a better job or a second one soon she is going to end up loosing the house. This would put my brothers without a home. My sister who knows where. And my mom either on the streets or in a camper. The dvr is failing at helping my mom. They basically said she's to dumb and old to be helped. (She's 45) Maybe this should be in mhc but id like some support in my quest to hold on the the small amount of a testimony in God helping me that I have.

Well, I don't believe we are God's marionettes. Everyone is an agent unto themselves, and some people, as they say, just want to watch the world burn. I think that every experience we have can be sanctified to our good, and that inasmuch as there is a reason it's about putting your trust in God. (D&C 122, the entire story of Job, Helaman 5:12) Either way, that sounds like a truly awful situation. You'll be in my prayers. 1

I don’t know why hard things happen, but I think some reasons might be that we all have agency and that we need to learn. Since God has given us our agency, some people are inevitably going to use it in less-than-optimal ways. When you give billions of people free will some are bound to use it to hurt others. I think sometimes hard things can also teach us things, or put us into positions to receive blessings that we wouldn’t get otherwise. I’m not saying that these are why all hard things happen, but it might explain some of them. I, evidently, often don’t know why God does what He does. What I do know, though, is that He won’t leave you to face it on your own. “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you” (John 14:18). Even if He doesn’t help you in the way you’d expect, even if you might not even see it, He’ll still be there for you through it all. Edited June 23, 2025 by PianoSavant 1

And looking back. Even though it sucked alot due to me getting sick sbd having a few panic attacks. My friends did not leave my side one bit.
