I really really want to get my patriarchal (did I spell that right?) blessing soon, and I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how I should prepare? My dad gave me a really short book about it to read, and I've been doing scripture study more regularly (mostly because of seminary but-). What did you guys do to prepare? Also, are the interview questions the same ones used for temple recommends?

Actually, the interview for me went completely different. There were no questions. Just... "So you want to get your patriarchal blessing? Okay, let me print you out a recommendation."

I'm not really sure on where to start for preparation. Just try to study what a patriarchal blessing is (There are talks and scriptures about it).

Study about it, and my advice is fast the day you go to get it. It really helped me to feel prepared. You could also ask the patriarch for some good ways to prepare, I bet he knows a few :P

Agreed.  It's not like a temple recommend interview at all; more of "do you really feel ready and feel like you need that guidance?  Let's take care of it then."  In my case it really helped that the stake Patriarch was an old family friend and lived in our ward, so he was nearby and someone I knew pretty well.

I guess I heard you had to do an interview and assumed it would be similar lol

Fasting the day you get it is a good idea, and something I tried to do the week before was being super careful with what I read, what I watched, what music I listened to, just so that you can be completely focused on Him.

Cool! I'll consider that, thanks

Patriarchal blessing truly are blessings. Make a list of everything you can think of that you are thankful of within 20-10 mins or so.

Yeah, all the talk about the interview stuff makes it sound scarier than it is.

The patriarch will probably have some instructions for you when you make the appointment. I personally didn't fast beforehand, but I put away my phone and other distractions to prepare myself to listen.

Also, think about what you want to do with your life. You'll want to view the blessing through a frame of what you want compared to what the Lord wants for you. Knowing what you want will make it easier to spot both confirmation and correction of those plans.

Lastly, listen close when you get your blessing. I think what stands out to you most right then will be important for you here and now, and as life continues, other parts will become important. Plus, it takes a while to get the transcript back, and the recorder has to go through multiple recordings, send it to Salt Lake, and then you get it sent to you, so paying attention initially will let you get a head start on those instructions.

Very true. Patriarchal Blessings are amazing.

Yeah it's such a problem among young people today. I'm glad though that all the LDS youth I know aren't like that.

You ever had the sudden realization that you still have all the lyrics to primary songs memorized after years of not singing them?

dang- I've got a lot of them still memorized I think. If they play, I'll most likely remember a lot of them.

I had a voice lesson the other day and my teacher wanted me to sing something everyone knows so she was like “sing the national anthem” and I realized I didn’t know the words so she said “oh…sing I am a child of God then” and even though it’s been a long time since I was in primary I was like oh yes I can do that.

We sang "I'm trying to be like Jesus" in seminary the other day and I legit started crying in front of the class haha. It had just been so long, and the lyric "I try to listen as a still small voice whispers love one another as jesus loved you..." Just hit me in a totally different way.

I think it's easy for those primary songs to become cliche and tired but those truths that they hold are things that are just as valuable to me now as they were then. It was a lesson to me, to not dismiss primary songs, or primary kids as too simple, or lacking in understanding.
