Evelyn would know about Twinborn, correct?

Elantrains have some knowledge of other investitures, but Evelyn herself does not. She has only been a Elantrian for a few years, and she's still young, so most of that knowledge has been withheld. She would have been told eventually, either when she finished her training in the Aons or when she turned eighteen, but being stranded in Seattle made it so she found out a little bit early.

"Cool. Do all spren look like Joy? Evelyn turned another corner, and they came in sight of Jamie.

“So, what are we getting?” Rob said. “We should have probably packed a shopping list...”

"Hot dogs, buns and condiments." James said.

Shana added.

"And marshmallows. We could grill them tonight."

"Good idea Shana" James said, smiling, "Sounds like a good time."

(Jamie took an Uber, I think)

"Oh no, there're a ton of different types."

"If we make a fire for the Marshmallows, we could also make some dough, wrap it around sticks and bake that over the fire. Add some garlic butter and it's delicious."

Maybe you should have us arrive there? You're the driver.

“Agreed,” Rob said, leaning back in his seat. Today was Sunday, right?

“School tomorrow,” he said, rubbing his eyes. “I’ve still got Philosophy homework to do.”

"My maths homework is only half finished as well."

Shana shrugged.

"Good thing is, I think I know what they want me to do by now. But I'm not sure if I can do it. Me and maths fit as good as me and water."

Robert wondered for a second what Shana meant, then it clicked. Drowning, that whole debacle with the water. Rob had always found it interesting that the broken people were the ones to become Radiants. Not the bravest, or strongest, or most intelligent, but the broken, the traumatised. It seemed like an odd standard for whatever cosmic force chose the Radiants.

Or... he thought. We all went insane from trauma. And this is a shared delusion?

But no, their actions had reactions. The news talked about them, their backyard, that place where they had fought the Voidbringer, all of it was affected by their surges. So there was no way it was all a delusion.

“That’s the same for me,” Rob said, in response to her. “Except with debating. Oh,” he remembered, then leaned back again. “I’ve got my speech due on Tuesday.” Though he tried his best to remain impassive, his voice had an exasperated inflection.

"I could help you with the speech."

Shana suggested, remembered how he had talked about his debating success eatlier.

"What is it about?"

She had to write an essay for geography, but that one wasn't due till wednesday.

How many subjects do you usually have in the US?

So most high schools usually have 8 courses a year. You can take more online. Some schools offer a program where you can take college courses.

Usually its: Math, science, history, english, foreign language(2 years min required),  2 electives(art, choir, band, orchestra), gym (only in freshman year)

Thanks a lot!

Only 8?

Wow that's few.

Can she take sport and geography as electives? I kind of mentioned them before :D

And science is physics/ chemistry/ biology?

How many do you get over where you live? Here it's eight per year.

Geography is usually a part of history class. Most sports have tryouts, and then are double-blocked (you have two classes of it a day) for practice.

Science is physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, etc. The first three are required where I live, after that you can take electives.

In my last two years at school (I was 18/19 = years 12/13) I had geography and english as focus subjects. (=5 hours per week = more than everything else)

Then there were maths, history, physics, chemistry, german, religion, music, sport. (=10)

But the last two years are a bit special.

Usually you also have: biology, another language, art, economics. (=14)

You can add subjects like theater, musical, orchestra,... if you want to.

You could choose a bit if you wanted to focus on science or languages (others like economics possible as well, but not on my school), so there were classes with more languages than I had, as I focused on science.

Although that is outdated, they changed it a bit, after I finished school, cut off a year, added some classes like programming.

========

So Shana has 7 subjects as sport counts for two?

How do you guys survive? Here it depends bit it's usually 6 subjects a semester (from high school onwards we stop using years). Though it was probably 7 with the elective but that was only once or twice a week I think, and only during two semesters/one year.

So we only choose two electives for our character and that makes the schedule?

Well it's a different system.

Up until you finish year eleven, you have main subjects and side subjects. You have larger exams in main subjects, but only small surprise tests in the side ones. If you know your teacher a bit you can wiggle through the side subjects without much effort.

In years 12+13 you have exams in all subjects, but no surprise tests anymore.

"Lots of different things. Some of them change shape, some are invisible to all but their chosen Radiant...a bunch are like mini-people, but in different colors and stuff."

GIVE ME YOUR SCHOOOOL

Clearly we all go to way different schools. Does anyone live in Seattle or know what the school districts there are like, or do we just make it up?

THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION.
