She’d played this moment out before in her head, minus the near chocolate immersion bit.

Unfortunately, Flid’s presence had scrambled her brain completely. How awkward, especially for an order whose attribute was supposed to be wise.

“Yeah, I do. Feel the same way, I mean.”

Agh, why are notifications not working?!

Flid blinked. "Wait, really? Am I dreaming? Thank you so much! Erm, do you want to dance?"

They're working for me.

Do you have them turned on?

"What do you have to thank me for?" She smiled. "I would love to dance. But I have like, three left feet. You have been warned."

Evelyn wandered around, trying to find someone to talk to. Almost everyone was either dancing or chatting with friends already though. She had just decided to go get something to eat when she saw someone that she recognized from school. His name was David, and he was actually pretty nice. She walked over and started to talk to him.

Rob sighed and nodded, moving from straightening up his coat to looking up at Ashlyn.

“Thanks. It’s just, I had a date.” His eyes quickly moved to where Leona was standing, in Flid’s arms as he caught her from slipping, and looked away quickly because it was impolite to stare.

Had a date. And, I guess I was just wondering if anything was wrong, you know, with me or something.” He shuffled his feet. He felt small, but he didn’t show it. He was a Stoneward.

Someone’s pants fell down, and underneath on their underwear were funny phrases Rob knew the kid was going to get teased for. He looked and saw it was the same guy who’d teased him a little before. For the most part, bullies left him alone, as it was impossible to get any reaction out of him. But, there were always people with their sharp words, odd looks.

“If that’s the case then nothing is wrong with you.” Ashlyn says, and gives him a smile.

Rob was about to smile back but he stopped himself, his father’s words echoing around in his head, words that told Rob that men didn’t smile, that men didn’t show emotion. The mental programming was set too far deep, and he just nodded. “Thanks,” he said.

He stood up straighter, more confident in himself thanks to Ashlyn. There was nothing wrong with him, she’d said. So, maybe if he just walked over there, it could clear the misunderstanding. Rob was confident, and he looked to Leona and Flid — and oh, they were dancing — and Rob quickly turned back to Ashlyn, confidence shattered.

He sighed. It was fine, even if his date was hijacked. Flid liked Leona anyway. Rob looked down at his feet. But still. He could have asked. But he was a Stoneward, and he didn’t fall because of a simple rejection. He looked back at Ashlyn, the thrashing neon lights pulsing above and behind her.

“I’ve... never really been one for dancing,” he said, honestly. He didn’t know why. Well, he knew why he’d never been one for dancing. There was something inherently emotional about it, something he’d never gotten. He looked to Ashlyn. “It’s a nice night, I think I might step out of...” he gestured around, to the lights, the loud music, all the people. “This place, for a moment. Get a breath of fresh air.”

He looked to the exit, a couple paces away. “Care to join me?” He asked, but immediately bit his tongue afterwards. He didn’t want to make her feel like she had to, that it was an obligation. “If you want to. I’m cool either way.”

Shana followed Ben outside.

"Let's look for a nice corner?"

She suggested.

@Lunamor

Ben nodded, leading her to a certain corner. He occasionally used it for reading, so he knew that no one could bother them there.

Alright, sounds good.

Ben kissed Shana again, his hands resting on her waist. Shana answered the kiss, her arms wrapped around him. Faintly he could hear the music, laughter, but for nothing in the world would he go back inside. Not when the alternative was standing outside in a quiet corner, kissing Shana. Suddenly she pulled away, turning her head to the side, ending the beautiful moment.

“What’s wrong?”

He asked, searching for what had disturbed her. He kept getting distracted by how pretty she looked in that green dress.

“Steps. I don’t know. Mahad thinks something is off.”

She said, touching her small purse. She didn’t have her usual bag of spheres with her. He heard the sound of careful footsteps coming closer. Ben’s eyes widened as he saw human-like figures coming towards them, their eyes glowing an eerie red. He instinctively took a step backwards, reaching for the few spheres he had stashed in his suit pocket. Quite a few of them were dun. He shouldn’t have been so frivolous, using so many to let them sneak out of prom and play pranks. He held them in his fist, watching it glow with a weak light. He didn’t have nearly enough to fully heal any serious injuries.

“What do we do?”

He asked.

“I don’t know.”

Shana whispered back.

“We need to call for help, can you create something?”

Shana took a step forward, in front of him, although the Voidbringers formed a half circle, slowly moved towards them and the wall at their back. They were trapped. He backed up until he was touching the wall, reluctant to use what little stormlight he had.

"Hand over your spheres and come with us. If you cooperate I won't hurt your little girlfriend here."

Their leader spoke. It's voice was deep and cold. It's eyes darted to Ben while extending its hand. He realized that if they didn’t get help, what little stormlight he had wouldn’t make a difference. Taking a deep breath, he inhaled it all. It wasn’t even enough to make him glow brighter than the flame of a dying candle. He focused, imagining an image of himself running to the Radiants in the gym. A version of himself so translucent and indistinct it could have been a ghost burst from him. He attached it to Glint with a message.

”Help.”

It was all he could do with his limited resources. The Voidbringer rushed towards Shana, suddenly holding a knife in his hand. She barely evaded the attack and hastily inhaled. A faint glow covered her skin and she reached out for the Voidbringer, touching his arm. A heartbeat later the Voidbringer fell to the ground, nothing more than a blackened body. But the one leading the attack only laughed and gestured for two others to approach her, and capture her. Meanwhile two others neared Ben, no weapons in their hands, not yet at least.

"That was a mistake, boy."

One of them drawled, his face drawn in a mean grin.

"Last chance, give up."

Ben couldn’t summon Glint as a Shardblade. He was busy getting help. Help that likely would never arrive in time. Ben quickly ran through his limited options in his head. He didn’t have stormlight, a weapon, or any other way of defending himself. Shana was already out of stormlight, and seemed like she was about to be overrun. Ben only had his weak, useless self. He regretted not training harder, getting more fit. He had been relying on stormlight far too much, and now it was coming back to bite him. He slowly started to raise his hands in a gesture of surrender. Then he launched himself as quickly as possible in the direction of a Voidbringer that was reaching for Shana, tackling him to the ground to give her a moment to collect herself and have enough time to prepare an attack. She took the opportunity, slamming her fist into the face of the one before her, grabbing his blade. Fiercly she stabbed at the Voidbringer, once, twice until blood covered her hand, her dress. Backing up, she moved closer to Ben. The Voidbringer he had tackled rolled to the side. Those that had tried to corner Ben closed on him, their faces drawn back in an inhuman snarl. They pulled out weapons, tried to get a grip on him, to throw him to the ground. Ben stood up and stepped towards Shana, planning on trying to shove some nearby Voidbringers away so she could have room to fight. The cuts on her hands looked serious, and he didn’t want her to get hurt anymore. This turned his back to the Voidbringers closing in on him. One behind him lunged forwards, digging his blade into Ben’s side. He collapsed as he felt a burning pain tear through him, blood seeping through his white shirt. He stared at the wound in shock. He had been stabbed. It took a while for that fact to circulate through his brain. In fact, it took him a while to think anything.

“Ben!”

He heard Shana scream as she tried to rush to his side. A Voidbringer grabbed her arm, then another one was there, wrapped an arm around her waist. She groaned, struggled against them, but they were too many, their grip too strong. The leader watched her, then gestured for two of them to kneel down next to Ben, secure him as well.

"And now you will come with us."

"Bind them. Chain her to him, she won't risk her lover."

His hand lifted Shana's chain.

"One wrong move little Dustbringer and you're chained to a corpse."

Ben felt the Voidbringers chain him to Shana, barely conscious. The chains felt oddly distant, yet still very heavy. He wanted to struggle, to fight, but it took all of his effort to keep his eyes open. He tried to tell Shana that everything was going to be ok, that they were going to get out of it somehow, but all that came out was a moan. Blood had begun to pool on the ground. It didn’t register to him that the blood was his until his looked back at his wound. Shana pulled him close, and pressed a hand against his wound in an attempt to staunch the bleeding. That was good, but wouldn’t last long as an effective solution. He again tried to speak to Shana, but he couldn’t get his mouth to move. A Voidbringer walked over and pulled Ben to his feet, sending a new stab of pain through his side. Moving the wound was a very bad idea, but he couldn’t stop himself from being moved. Shana followed, stayed by his side, not breaking contact. They were led away to a van, where they placed him inside. Shana scrambled in after him and the door was closed, leaving them in darkness, alone with three of the creatures. Shana ripped off a part of her dress and tied it around him as an improvised bandage. That stopped lots of the blood, which was good. He felt bad that she had to rip up her dress, though. He thought that he heard her say his name over and over again, but it was hard to tell in the darkness and everything was slowly becoming more blurry. Eventually he blacked out, the pain and blood loss too much for him.

=================

Glint felt a great hurt from Ben. He almost faltered, returned to him so he could fight. But he stayed his course, flying to the gym as fast as possible. He knew that there were far too many Voidbringers for them to try and overtake them. Their only hope was to get help from others. He zoomed up to Flid and Leona. The illusion played out, along with Ben’s message.

“Help.”

====================

Mahad swirled nervously around Shana, watching her try and fix Ben’s wound. It looked bad. Really bad. He didn’t want to think about what losing Ben would do to Shana. The van started moving. Had Glint been unable to get help in time? Glint didn’t speak to people other than Ben. That would be a problem. How could he tell the other Radiants exactly where to find them? He got an idea. But it would make him leave Shana. He didn’t want to do that. But what other choice did he have?

“Shana, I am going to go get help.”

Mahad rushed away, not bothering with physics and passing straight through the side of the car. He made a beeline for the gym, where he found Glint pulsing wildly next to Flid and Leona. He flew up right in front of their faces.

All of a sudden, Draug felt a familiar pressure on his mind. Whispers, barely audible, echoing and twisting.

Sha-thoexis's voice.

What? he thought with confusion. Sha-thoexis never attacked him while awake anymore. He hadn't heard her voice for weeks- unless you counted dreams, which he didn't. Why would that have changed now? Because he was high up? But no- he'd flown up here before without hearing so much as a sigh. And now they were getting stronger, the voices echoing in his mind and mixing to form a greater whole. It beat upon his mind in a familiar rhythm, pulsing, oppressive-
...danger...
Wait. What was that? For a moment, it had almost sounded like...
...danger...
...a word? That makes no sense, he thought, confused.
...danger...
It was unmistakable now, although he still couldn't here what was being said. Sae? he thought. Do you hear...?
...danger...
What? she asked back.
A voice, said Draug, uneasily. It's saying something. I can't hear...
...danger...
Draug's eyes widened.
...danger...
Sae! he thought, fear beginning to flow through him. Something's happening.
...danger...

An attack? thought Sae, concern lacing her voice.
...danger...
I don't know, said Draug, lashing himself towards the school, but I'm not risking it.

I can't lose anyone else, he thought to himself as he fell. can't.

Cassie muffled a laugh at the antics around the room. Clearly, the high schoolers she lived with were having fun - and watching the awkward flirting between several pairs was even funnier. Ha, I don't miss those years of life...oh heck stop staring at Jamie. She was as comfortable as it was possible for her to be as a chaperone at a school dance, so it was confusing when Joy pulsed a sudden frantic beat of wrongness at her. Cassie looked up to see a misty, made-of-Stormlight version of Ben rush over to Leona and Flid; she didn't wait a second before running over. What if someone sees!?

A voice rang out in the air; that was Mahad, Shana's ashspren. Cassie almost didn't recognize the message's contents - “Ben and Shana have been captured by Voidbringers!” It just...didn't register. Until it did.

Cassie's mouth opened slightly in shock and fear. Captured by Voidbringers? That hasn't happened in all my memory. How did I fail? I had one job - keep the kids from getting hurt! What will Doc say? What's going to happen to them? Is everyone else all right? That last thought snapped her out of her blankness, and she straightened, waving her hands in the Lightweaving of Ben in the hopes that it would dissipate. Too many non-Radiants were already noticing the display. Then she spun, eyes zipping from one student to the next. Everyone seemed okay - she could see them all there.

She turned back to Mahad, realizing that Ben's spren Glint was there too. "Where?" she asked, almost stumbling over her words as they rushed from her mouth. "Where did they go? Can you find them?" She pulled out her phone and texted Uncle James. shanas spren says her n ben kidnapped by vbs, she typed, then bit her lip and looked around. They'd caused a bit of a commotion, but thanks to the pranks from earlier, she thought not too many people would latch onto this. Maybe.

Finally, combative cakecasting

Leona heard Mahad’s message and gasped. She broke away from Flid and started speedwalking towards the exit. She threw her shoes by the door, and inhaled stormlight. Her ring dimmed.

She unstrapped her knives from where they’d been hidden under her dress and fell into a sprint. As she burst into the parking lot, she saw a van pull away. Should she go get help and more weapons, or work with what she had.

She started running after the van, stormlight enabling her to almost keep up. Her mouth curled into a smile as she thought of her plan.

The van, surprisingly, stopped at a stop sign. Who would have thought evil alien things would obey traffic laws. She inhaled and soulcast a giant wall of cake in front of it.

Then, because of course things never worked out, a voice hissed in her ear. “Hello. Your little plan is admirable. But you can’t  save your friends if you can’t save yourself.” She turned to look at it. It’s mouth twisted into a cruel sneer as it rammed a rather large knife into her gut.

She screamed and fell. Her eyes closed. She smelled cake somewhere. Blood seeped onto her dress and pooled on the street, black in the amber glow of street lights.

So, in my mind Rob (and Ashlyn) were quite a distance from Leona and Flid, almost on opposite sides. Between the music and lights and everything, I’m not sure if he’d be able to hear Mahad or Glint from that far away?

“Yeah, all this music and stuff, sometimes overwhelming,” Rob said, and he walked towards the exit, through the doors and into the cool night, the breeze nice and cold against him and he took a deep breath. He turned to Ashlyn and leaned against the wall next to the door, the music bass thrumming against it.

“You asked me what I liked doing,” Rob said, looking to Ashlyn. “What about you? Apart from thinking, of course.”

"LEONA!" He screamed, as he tackled the voidbringer, grabbed one of Leona's fallen dagger's and stabbed it in the head, hoping that would be enough to kill it. He rushed over to Leona, blood leaking from her. "No no no, not now! Leona..." He felt tears in his eyes. First he had died, now she was as well. Was it some kind of cruel curse that every he loved died? No, she's not dead yet. I won't let her die. He picked her up and looked around for somewhere, anywhere where someone could help them. He saw the house nearby, and started running while carrying her, as fast as he could. I'm sorry Ben, but I can't let her die.

Shardplate Gang™

Soon.

"Rusts! Rusts rusts rusts!" Jamie swore, "I'll see if I can catch up to them on my bike." she said to Cassie before sprinting out the door with pewter enhanced speed. As she ran, she ripped open her bag and pulled out a handfull of pewter pills and a can of energy drink. She skidded to a stop next to her bike and popped three pills into her mouth, washing them down by draining half the can.

Jamie knelt down by the saddlebags, removing four chromium rings, which she slid onto her ring and index fingers of each hand, and a pair of large bracers, which she snapped on. Finally, she balled up her hoodie and swung her bistcoat on, dropping the pills into its pocket.

Feeling ready to take on a Koloss, she mounted her bike and roared away in pursuit of Voidbringers.

Voidbringers, or no?

Doc's phone vibrated. He swiped his finger across the scanner and opened the messages app. Reading Cassie's message, he almost didn't believe it. He read it again, then called Cassie. "Next time," he shouted, "When eldritch death creatures are attacking, CALL ME FIRST!"

"Outside, a van. Heading north, I think? Or south?"

Mahad whilred around Cassie's head in confusion and zippped of, searching for Rob. He wasn't inside, he was outside. Talking to the girl. He didn't hesitate, instead he flew over and searched for Cup.

Shana heard noises outside and then the van got slower, only to speed up again. She didn't dare to scream, her eyes hanging on the knife above Ben's throat.

This can go on, as long as you want to. In the end I figured they could bring them to some kind of base, maybe we find another of those crystal seeds there. Or you simply finish the van of, and end it quickly.

I would invite everybody to help with the scene setting and moving this forward, but if you prefer, I can help a bit with Mahad and Shana
