I think hot dogs are sandwiches. A sandwich being, by my definition, any food that is in some way enveloped by another, distinct, separate kind of food.

If open faced sandwiches are also sandwiches, then we need to extend the definition slightly.

Also, all sandwiches are just organized salads. And soups are also salads.

Humanity disagrees with you, simply by virtue of the fact that they are called hotdogs not hotdog sandwiches.

And that sandwiches are not called salads, and that soups are not called salads.
