I can never think of any. Hey, thanks! I usually just try to think to myself "How can I make this boon specific to this character and his powers, and how can his bane also tie into his powers in a way that doesn't counteract the boon?" Ok, that actually sounds pretty confusing, but basically, I try and make the bane something that the character can play around with, something that causes him to work differently than everyone else. Sherlock Holmes he/him Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 I'm retiring my character Dru, since I only used her once. I'd appreciate it if one of the mods could take her off my list. @MacThorstenson @Voidus
kenod Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 (edited) So here's a new character I've been working on: Spoiler Name: ShadeAge: 17Gender: FemaleAppearance: 5'2'', with long black hair and brown eyes. Normally wears a black pants with a grey hoodie that seems to be a few sizes to big. She has a number of scars hidden away under her cloths.Powers: Presence Manipulation This ability can make people pay more or less attention to her, as well as giving them the idea she is in a different location, or give the idea she/projected presence is someone else. Hiding her presence works similar to the Grey Men from WoT, with roughly the same level of effectiveness. Its effectiveness varies depending on the sense used to perceive her though. Hearing or seeing her doesn't do much, but her smell is still noticed and can make someone pay more attention to her, though it's generally not enough to break the ability if she doesn't do anything too suspicious. Direct physical contact will immediately break the ability though, and will make them fully aware of her. Highly unusual actions, like firing guns or yelling will also seriously weaken the ability. This ability is also a lot less effective on people who were already aware of her when the ability activated. Increasing her presence will make people around her focus on her, and draw their attention away from other things. When used with less strength it will simply make people notice her unconsciously, making her stand out more. Projecting her presence will make people think she is at the projected location instead of her actual location. If the person in question is already aware of the her location it will only function as a distraction, disorienting the person in question. Also, if they actually see the location the presence is projected to it'll immediately fail as they realize there's nobody there, unless they think there is someone invisible around. An interesting quirk of this is that by quickly projecting her presence at different locations close to herself she can make it harder for people to know her exact location, disorienting people looking at her and making it harder to hit her with ranged weapons. Disguising her presence makes people think she's someone else. This ability fails when someone pays actual attention to her though, since actual inspection would show them that she is somebody else. The closer she looks like the person who's presence she's using the less likely it is for the effect to fail. This ability can also be used in conjunction with projecting her presence, making people think it's someone else who's at the location the presence is projected to. Notes: It is possible for her to simultaneously hide her presence and project it. Only one presence can be projected at the same time, though the presence can be re-projected at high speeds (about 0.15 seconds). The range for projecting a presence is limited to locations either within line of sight or within 30 meters of her if she is aware of the location. She can sense how much attention people are paying her, and is thus aware of it when someone breaks her ability. If someone breaks her ability only the person in question notices her. Everyone else affected by the ability will still be affected, but the person not affected can tell the others about her, breaking the ability for them as well. If someone has broken their ability reusing it will still make the ability apply to them again. Generally the ability would break again immediately (creating the disorientation/mirage trick with presence projection by continuously distracting them with new presences) but if the person who broke it didn't really pay any attention to her anyway it can successfully re-apply itself (for example, if someone bumped into her on the street and ignored her the ability could be applied again). Skills: Assassination (Skilled), Projectile Weapons (Average, limited to throwing knives), Melee Weapons (Average, limited to knives). (skill levels might be increased depending on weakness scores.) Equipment: A large number of hidden knives. Epic Weakness: Feeling trapped, normally triggered by someone grabbing her wrists or restraining her, but other triggers can occur as well. Weaknesses: Dislikes fighting and killing, she'll try to avoid combat unless she feels like she has no choice. She's also fairly shy and has trouble dealing with crowds. She has psychological issues related to her backstory, and if she feels trapped or threatened she can snap, having mental breakdown. Guild: Church of the Whiterose. Family: Parents and uncle, all deceased. Personality: She tends to be somewhat quiet and shy, but likes caring for others, especially children. Has a dislike for fighting, and is aware of the psychological issues she has, and is trying to overcome them, while also trying to atone for the killing she did when she was younger. Both of these are why she enjoys caring for children. When using her powers her emotions fade away. She personally has the idea that the more she hides her presence the more her emotions disappear as well. Her motivations stay though, and certain strong emotions can stay as well (specifically her fear of being trapped). Likes being in open places. Dislikes other people seeing her scars. History: She grew up with abusive parents, learning quickly not to draw attention to herself. With the only person she liked a mysterious uncle who came by every once in a while. When she turned seven Calamity appeared, and one of the rampaging Epics killed her parents, and she survived only because of her own abilities manifesting. Her uncle took her in afterwards, but was only interested in her ability. It turned out that he was an assassin, and he started training her as well, eventually turning her into a skilled killer, having her serve as his tool and hiring out her services. Eventually when she got older she managed to befriend a local girl. However, her uncle found out, and scared that she might betray him he kidnapped the girl, and tried to force Shade to kill her, engaging her weakness in the process. With the encouragement from the girl she managed to snap out of it and kill her uncle instead, overcoming her weakness. Her uncle still fatally wounded the girl though, and when she died Shade didn't know what to do, simply wandering about until she arrived in the alleyverse, where she ended up at the guild, deciding to stay in the hope that she might find a way to escape from her past, as well as a way to atone for all the people she killed. Theme Song: Within Temptation, Overcome Edit: Since I already have 5 characters I'd like to retire Maxwell and Laplace to make room. Edited May 11, 2019 by kenod 1

She hated it, and decided she wanted to get away. She prepared to run away, but her twin brother found out. He followed her, against her objections. They ended up in the alleyverse, where she fought a man with a black shardblade, killing him. On 5/10/2019 at 3:50 AM, Mraize said: Name: Titus "Morph" Maximus Physical Characteristics: Lanky but Muscular, about 6'1. Normally blonde hair, kept wavy and combed off to the right with a lower than normal hairline, causing the hair to naturally fall over the eyes. Deep Blue eyes, set close together in the middle of the face. He is missing an eye, due to an attack by a wild bear as a child, so he always wears an eye patch for multiple reasons. Tends to walk around barefoot, so worn callouses lie on the bottom of his feet. His hair and eye color stay at this color mostly, but due to his epic power (see below) his hair and eyes are naturally changing, but are also influenced by his emotions and specific surrounding. Appearance: Wears a large black coat that covers most of his upper body; good at concealing himself. Wears bandana around the lower half of face, wanting as little visible as possible when out and about Investiture: Epic Power; the ability to change his skin texture, material, strength, appearance, characteristics, and in certain cases, his entire body to an element he is touching. The material must be in contact with skin to morph. In cases of loose solids (sand, dirt), liquids, and gases, his entire body is changed. Throughout all changes, he retains normal brain functions. He must retain contact with the object/material. Skills: Adept at hand-to-hand combat. Advanced muscular strength and endurance to be able to manage the weights of transforming. Equipment: Takes advantages of missing eye, with an eye patch holding in small ball bearings of different materials. Carries around a bow staff and small dagger. Weakness: Melons (Watermelon, Cantaloupe) put him in a catatonic state in which he can only be awakened by powerful magic or smelling salts. The melon must come in contact with his original skin, or in his body, to take action. While in this state, he cycles between his normal state and all the elements and/or materials he is touching as a natural instinct. He awakens in a daze in which he would be rendered unable to fight and opened to questioning. Family/Backstory: Washed away to an enormous tidal wave as Titus was a child. Titus developed his epic power here, sinking into the sand and surviving the brunt of the wave, but later wishing he had been caught up in it, rather than live the rest of his life lonely. He has taken up bounty hunting just to get more of a feel for life. Personality: When around friends, he is energetic and often the center of attention due to his unique power. When amongst enemies, he is ruthless and determined to not give up until the fight is over. While alone, he is shy an not open to conversation as easily. That's a High Epic power so this one is going to be scored pretty highly. Assuming that this cannot apply to Invested surfaces it should come out dead on 100 points for the Epic power. And the skills should be around 40 (Skilled hand-to-hand plus some extra for strength) Should come out to within limits however I do want to point out that this isn't how Epic Weaknesses work, if melons are the weakness then they would completely prevent the power, not cause unconsciousness and random material cycling. On 5/10/2019 at 6:09 AM, Truthless of Shinovar said: Name: Tels Sultone Physical description: Tels is 6'5, but still pretty skinny: strength is not his forte, but he is pretty agile. He has a narrow face as well, with a thief's face, thin-ish eyes, and a bold, narrow nose. His eyes are gray, and his hair is a chestnut colored. Personality: Tels is a bold man, one who is unafraid to try dangerous things: He loves taking risks. Rig grew up in the streets of Dayside Taldain, spending years as a thief and living a cut-throat life. He is ruthless, and has a limited capacity for mercy. He will usually be thinking about how to steal whatever's in the room at the time, which will often cause trouble for him. Deep down, he has some good in him, but that side of himself does not show often. Powers: Tels eventually discovered, though, that he was a sand mage, quickly becoming a self-taught sand master rather than going to the Diem. He can weave about 25 ribbons, all with incredible skill. Eventually, through many strange events, Tels found himself a part-time worldhopper on Roshar, where he received a boon from the Nightwatcher to create white sand out of any material. This is similar to soulcasting, but specifically with Taldain's sand. His bane was that he cannot hold anything, it slips from his grasp in a similar manner as a wet soap bar would. He basically cannot physically cannot interact with anything around him, forcing him to use sand to do everything, which causes the problem of dehydration. Weakness: Tels is more than horrified of axehounds. A giant bug, that can move fast on four legs... *involuntarily shudders* Other Stuff: Tels always has water on him. Always. Probably enough for 5 people, if not more. White sand is Invested, I wouldn't feel comfortable approving something that creates Investiture from nothing. Also free Soulcasting is very powerful in its own right so this would almost certainly be over power limits.
