"Spiders..." Rirrom cocked an eyebrow. Kt was hard to tell if this newcomer 'Kevin' was lying or not. "Welcome to the longest thread, I suppose."

"Perhaps I may aid you with understanding how his place works. In this land, there are characters called narrators who have the power to do whatever they want, and typically maintain a higher awareness of the thread than other characters." He continued. "A narrator can do anything they wish." He summoned a croissant to show his point.

"And then there's Plotblades, which are essentially powered-up variants of shardblades that pertain to a specific plot element. They're hard to come by, so you're unlikely to hold one yourself, but their presence always shadows the thread in some way or another."

He stood up and examined the door up close. "If you wish, I could send you back to the Door-ways, and solve the spider problem, all at the same time. I would assume my power reaches into there just fine, if you wish to go back. But if you do not, well, that is where the journey begins."

Kevin nodded, wishing he had a notebook to write down what Rirrom was saying. At the sudden appearance of a croissant, he narrowed his eyes, then held his hand out to the side. A notebook and pen materialised, and he almost dropped them in surprise. That's... new.

He'd heard of the Plotblades, though he'd never heard of one leaving the Thread. And thank goodness. They seemed hazardous at the best of times.

"Thank you for the offer," Kevin said as the conversation turned to the Doorways, "But I think the people there can manage it. There was a knight, an unconscious Feruchemist, a person with playing cards, and some sort of deity there when I left, so I doubt the spiders will be much of a problem."

He tugged one from under his hood, then placed it on the floor. It scrambled away to a corner, where it squinted with eight too-intelligent eyes. "I ... I would very much like to begin a journey here." He smiled. "What can I do to help?"

Rirrom narrowed his eyes. "I figured," he mused softly to himself.

Of course he wanted a journey. Why did every character need to be so similar? Well, Rirrom wasn't a Wish Doctor for nothing, he supposed.

"There's a Narrator who comes here every once in a while named Ribbon- but I don't think she'll be ecstatic to meet you. Hmmm. Let me think."

"I don't normally think of myself of a narrator, because I don't deal with things on a tangible level." Rirrom said, sitting back down. He flashed a smile. "I consider myself more of a... Fate narrator, of sorts. A ghost writer, if you will."

He glanced at the seemingly intelligent spider that was skittering away from Kevin.

"I can offer some suggestions, if you wish. But perhaps I would need something in exchange, if you are willing to listen to what I have to say." Rirrom said soothingly, "I see the spirit of a great adventurer within you, Kevin, and I sense that you will go far. I can offer several paths, several quests that will lead to the journey you so desire. But all I would require is one small little payment. Would you be willing to pay that?"

Kevin hesitated. The man seemed trustworthy (maybe), at least at first meeting, and he had shared far more information than Kevin had expected. Ribbon wasn't a name he could immediately put a face to; he'd cross that bridge when he came to it. Whatever that bridge was.

"...Depends on the payment," he said cautiously. Who was Rirrom? Some kind of quest-giver? "If it's a task, that's probably possible. If it's an abstract concept or eighty percent of my soul, you can probably see why I'm less keen on that."

Skylight brandishes his mordite blade and Plotblade. “I don’t really know what this Blade does, but it may be useful.” His eyes flash, and his posture seems to change. Like the predator in the woods, he waits to feast. “I have also conquered the Voice in my head, and he boosts my combat abilities.”

Emmalee’s eyes narrow. “Is that Glyer’s Plotblade? Also, what is this voice in your head?”

A faint glimmer of awareness tugged at Emmalee’s mind. “You know the truth,” the voice whispered. She quickly discarded it, going instead with the logic.

“Is this why Ribbon hates you so much? She made a deal that didn’t turn out well?”, 9/10 inquires.

The old Narrator sighed. "Perhaps that question may be answered in due time. Rest assured, she is not... a client of mine, shall we say."

Ennalee nodded, scribbling furiously. When she finished, she looked around. “I don’t know where we are, so I’m not sure. But,” she said, rifling through her satchel. “You can use this for now.” She offered a small roll of bandages to Elinore.

Elinore took them and started patching up the group.

Eli paused her work and watched the events unfold.

Kevin frowned at the proposition. "That's not a lot less vague than before. I don't know you well enough that I trust your judgement in a given situation, but ..." I suppose this is sort of what I'm signing up for. "Alright, probably. Just so long as it doesn't involve murder. Maybe. We'll see."

She turns to Skylight. "Please answer my questions."

Ribbon focused, then teleported Salt and herself to a peculiar place. Within dark gray dunes of sand, numerous swords of sizes ranging from collosal to miniscule lay.

"Now forgive me for asking, but how good are you at combat?"

Are you finished? Ribbon's voice echoed in 9/10's head, Join me.

"That is clearly not true, and I will hear no more about it." Reaching into her bag, she removed a roll of bandages and tossed them to Elinore. Wait. Hadn't she already given those to her?

The voice deep inside her head hissed, "The logic fits now."

“Yes this was Glyer’s.” Skylight brandished the blade, catching the sunlight on its edge. “One day, I’ll think of how I can use it. As for the Voice, he is the personification of my doubts. And the pain from losing all my friends in another world. He runs, and makes me run too.”

9/10mmHB#2 projected back to Ribbon. He seemed obviously to not have killed Rirron. “Don’t ask,” he said.
canonically, being a character is repairing his empathy and morality, he just doesn’t want to admit it.

Kevin nods. Well, that's optimistic. If I have to sell my soul, at least I'm probably not selling to a psychopath. Hopefully.
