Somewhere, elsewhere, Dark Cep nodded. His Author had finally devised a plan; now it was time for him to set it up. " @NameIess!" he called. "Whichever of your characters would best be able to help me! I have need to discuss Mordite."

Subversion appeared, looking rather grumpy. "Of all the times for Malevolence to be busy..." She muttered. "Interrupting my character development." She shook her head and focused on Dark Cep. "Mordite, yes? I have the knowledge necessary to help you."

Nvm then hehe

"Pre- pretense?"

"Why... I suppose it is!" Dr. Pree smiled, reaching up and adjusting his glasses. "Pretenses are often useful, in my experience. As your Author can attest!"

Um so 9/10 just made a deal with Pree, and one of Pree’s friends is supposed to do that. So if Ribbon was the one that he was referring to, yes. If not, I’d enjoy adding some consequences into their bond.

It wasn't Ribbon, but 'Pree' has already mostly decided that Inkwell and this group will be his chosen targets for the competition. If his 'acquaintance' (who is totally not Rebus) agrees, then one of them will probably give 9/10 a body as part of their evil machinations.

Myles cocks his head. "Ah, yes, I see now. Interesting name, and a rather suspicious one, but I would be willing, yes."

"Great! Question number one: How good are you in a fight?"

"I ..." Ribbon wanted to collapse. "I... don't want to be a narrator, Fog."

Marek woke with a slow, mechanical inhale, like a body remembering a habit it no longer needed. He sat up, eyes unfocused for a moment before sharpening with cold purpose. The world felt wrong simply by continuing to exist. Marek flexed his fingers once, testing motion, then stood. “Still here,” he said flatly. “Unacceptable.”

Inkwell’s eyes roll back in his head. Unconscious. Someone inside of him is screaming to stop seeking attention, but he’s not sure which one.

". . . Have you never seen one? You just divide it yourself."

Or I could rip you open and take it for myself, she thought bitterly. She'd been without power for far too long . . .

Marek stepped forward, the floor cold beneath his bare feet, and looked around as if measuring the room for weaknesses. Dust hung in the air, undisturbed for years, and he brushed it aside with a small, irritated motion. His gaze settled on the nearest doorway. For a long moment he simply stared at it, then started walking, steady and certain, as though he already knew exactly what waited beyond it... and exactly how it would end.

He found himself in a forest. People could be heard talking in the distance.

How did you know

hehehe

9/10mmHB#2 opens his eyes. Licks his lips. Smells and hears the Sea. The sudden arrival of the experience known as physical sense, not just text flashing by like noise in his mind, is a euphoric moment.

Spoiler

Inkwell stares at a line of words. Shatter. Edgyswordname. Through The Looking Glass. He hears 9/10mmHB#2 thinking. It is not pretty.

It tries to speak. Luckily, Inkwell has plenty of muscle memory available for it to use. “Tell that to your girlfriend.”

"Yes, yes, and yes. Mordite kills anything if you hit the core of their being. Glancing wounds are difficult even for Narrators to heal." Subversion shrugged. "As for wielding them, just be careful of hurting yourself, and don't bond it to your soul unless you want horrible corruptive side effects."

"Hm. Question two: What would you do if a villain attacked this group right now?"

There were a bunch of assorted people on the cliff.

Is just the current group that I've been writing in the past few pages

Alli, a young woman by the cliffside, frowned and waved, unable to see him clearly through the trees just yet.
