“A dimension of swords? Could you describe it?”

"It was this gray, sandy plain," Ribbon said, trying to envision it in her hair. "Lots of this fine, almost lavender-ish sand. And everywhere you looked there were swords plunged into the ground. Tons of different swords, all having different designs and sizes. There were massive ones you could see in the distance, and normal sized ones nearby. It's almost like a shipyard... But for swords."

She thought for a moment and changed her appearance to resemble Rebus. She pointed at herself, then at Omen, and said something in her Rebus monotone. She then flitted over and shifted to a tall shadow, and growled something. This went back and forth for a solid minute before she returned to her normal pixie self and looked at the spider questioningly

“Are you looking for Rebus?” The spider asked in a perplexed tone. It grabbed one of the insects from earlier, spinning a misty cocoon around it. It didn’t see to notice that the insect immediately flew away, mist being an inadequate restraint. “It seems you are incapable of speech. Let me see if I can read your intentions, instead.” The spider ceased spinning a cocoon and adopted a look of concentration.

"Then why do anything at all?"

“Survivorship bias.” Rebus said. “If I did nothing I wouldn’t be here.”

Unintelligible took a step towards Rebus. Just one. "You." He growled. "Are a terrible person. Once I've buried Sequence, I will fight you to my last breath, just like you want. But now, here, I am in no shape to fight. You want conflict, engagement. I am in no state of mind to provide either. Neither is Aelinor. So what will antagonizing us here accomplish?"

--

"I lean towards a less established plotline." Malevolence mused. "These newcomers seem a good prospect. But I would like to know more about them before committing." He stood from his chair, and suddenly his appearance changed. Where once had stood a villainous-looking man with violet eyes, blond hair, a dark labcoat, and a black axe, now there stood a short, balding man wearing thick glasses over his grey eyes, and a rather worn suit. "Shall we welcome them to the Thread?"

--

The Sage indeed looked very much both kinds of mad, as he attempted to stand up, only to slip on the oil and fall on his backside. Despite his anger, however, neither the Sage nor his minions left the mall.

Lyric hung his hammer back at his side, breathing out heavily. "Well, my friend. I am sorry to have lead you astray." He looked at the sun, which now hung low in the sky. "I would sleep better if we put a few miles between ourselves and this place before nightfall. Shall we go?"

“Aelinor holds Conflict, now.” Rebus grinned. “I am supposed to be a terrible  person - and I want that Blade, or to fight its wielder.”
-

Rebus chuckled. “Clever. I shall refrain from true dishonesty, of course - now that you hold Bacon captive, perhaps I can take his place as an introduction to Narrators.” He snapped away, having concluded that arriving with Malevolence would be detrimental to the plans.
-

“Yes.” Jack said, not breathing very much at all. “As far away from that place as we can get. But it was not wholly your fault - I told you to bring me there.”

I’ll need you and probably nameless to describe what else happens as y’all actually know what’s happening.

NameIess seems to have done so - taking the trial will probably result in interaction with the man in question, though he’s already around.
Rebus watched from across the Thread, pleased the hunt seemed to be going well.
The quarry also watched. It told time, in fact - a very handy device, should you remember to wind it.

Not lack of intelligence, merely lack of research. Rebus is saying that sci-fi tech pretty much always violates the laws of physics. Utility fog is especially bad - it should overheat, you need to get zillions of tiny robots to do what you want, and it might not even or possible to build robots that small.
It bounced, the same way it had for the others.

Rebus nodded. “I had been wondering what it does, but I suppose I shall see in a moment.”

He couldn't tell if his taunting had any actual effect on Rebus, but he needed to strike regardless. He leapt forward, feinting to the left before slashing at Rebus's right.

“Ah.” Rebus said. He started to say something more, but stopped talking as dodged rightwards. There was a clang as he barely blocked the true attack, his eyes wide. “Clever,” he said, standing close, their blades locked together - Cricket could hear him breathing. “You almost had me.” Rebus  smiled, and kicked straight at Cricket’s kneecap.

The program wasn't sure what to do about that.

"You could try, if you wished." Rebus said, landing on the deck next to Levi. "I wouldn't be especially upset."

"Showing that is exactly the point of the scenario - that interacting with one makes safe containment impossible."

Not right now he isn't - while that dodge is certainly enabled by residual plot armor, Rebus is completely depowered and only using mundane(ish - he trained while doing other things via hive mind) skill.

Just now, KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren said:

Remember she was pulling a Shallan and not doing too well when she saw how Atlas was doing so she missed most of it.

Their blades locked, even as Cricket met his enemy's gaze, holding it for just a moment. This man, this monster, had done so much to him, to the Thread. He deserved what was coming for him, but now . . . now, he needed to be a soldier. No room for emotion in warfare.

He felt Rebus shift, knew the kick was coming. Trying to dislocate his leg was dangerous, the move of a bastard.

Cricket smiled, twisting even as Rebus moved, and wrenched his sword away, letting Rebus' momentum carry him forward.

As Kimaya Rune continued her performance, a man entered the room. There was nothing remarkable about him. He was short, bald, and rather portly. He watched her with an odd air. Unlike the rest of the gathered people, he did not seem awed by the magic show. Instead, he watched Kimaya closely, and held a clipboard and pen as if to take notes.

"You'll get neither." Unintelligible reached to his side with one hand, drawing a revolver and awkwardly levelling it at Rebus. "This pistol was made for me by the Dreamsmith. It draws strength from my innate Ookla abilities.  the more personally invested in an action I am, the more power it is capable of drawing forth." He cocked the pistol. "Do you want to guess how important this is to me?"

"Well, I should have known something was strange about the traveler who told me of this place. He was incoherent when I found him, collapsed of dehydration it seemed." Lyric grimaced. "Now, it seems clear that more sinister forces were at play." With a nervous glance back at the mall, he set off across the ruined parking lot and towards the nearby forest.

Otherwise, I’m not above running away. Or hiding. Or finding a way to destroy Conflict to keep it from you.” She fixed Rebus with a glare… but there was a bit of vulnerability, a bit of pleading in her eyes. “If you truly had any respect for… Sequence, then you’d remember how she felt about violence.” Aelinor resisted glancing at Sequence’s body, gray in Unintelligible’s arms.
