"I know how, but I will not do it. I will not tell you my purpose, for there is the chance that we may be enemies, for as I know your goal, I know that it would run afoul to my plans and mine to yours." Darkness said, as if compromising their opinions on pizza flavors. "I do not think that an alliance between us would, in the end, be profitable." Darkness knew that everything he did was dangerous here, this being could be deadly to his plans... but it would work out. It always did. At least partially.

"I submit to this then, I will leave you in peace and let you do your work. Harm me not and I will let you work. I will probably find Johny and see what he is up to"

Darkness nodded, "That is good. Farewell, Xyr."

Nameless walked into the bar and sat down, helping himself to some water. "Hey Darkness. I thought I'd let you know that I'm back."

"Ahhh! Nameless... back from the dead? So soon...  Want a drink?" Darkness snapped his fingers, a cup appearing in his left hand, he offered it to Nameless. "After all, we're all friends here..." His sarcasm seemed almost innocent. almost, but with a hint that betrayed it all blatantly.

He observed Nameless, looking for changes in him. As he did, he felt exhaustingly tired. His long journey would end, someday, in TLT as it had began. It was depressing to think that he would eventually die. Would he come back like Nameless? He hoped not. To be resurrected time and time again seemed even more exhausting than living as long as he was. His time was, in the end, short. His plans would, most likely, fail.

But, Darkness thought, they can't fault me from trying to get what I feel I need in the end. It was the most natural desire in a being with a mind, Darkness knew, to seek something that they, for some intrinsic reason, wanted. Some instinct drove everyone to do something, to try and get something. It was their nature. He knew the narrative reason, without motivation, most characters become bland. But what was the real reason?

Darkness had thought about it time and time again, going over it. Why did they seek something? Why not just sit and think... it was time, he'd concluded several times. The concept of time was so visceral in beings, though not quite so brutal in his own mind. It drove them to things, it made them feel progress through time. It made them have a sense of time going by faster.

The alcohol poured down his throat, warming it pleasantly. He couldn't get drunk, unfortunately. He'd discovered that years ago. Darkness straightened in his seat, cold calculation taking over, "Tell me, Nameless, why are you back? What are you here for? To kill me? I doubt that, otherwise you would've moved by now. Then again, this new incarnation of you may be different than how you were before. Or," Darkness said, his lips twitching, "perhaps, you are here to see what kind of enemy you will be facing."

Darkness licked his lips, all emotion leaving his face, leaving behind eyes that seemed to take in everything, seemed to see the world exactly as it was. "Do not lie when you answer me, Narrator. I know those tricks and they will not fool me, in the end."

He had a sip of his drink mechanically, setting it down. His mind was filled with the serenity that only a mad man could muster in a moment like this. For that was what he was, in the end. A mad man with just enough of his mind to perform a semblance of sanity for the crowds. His act would break someday and they would all see him for who he truly was on the inside, his true motivations and desires.

It wouldn't break yet, not for a while longer. He couldn't worry about what would take a long time to happen.

Instead, he had a show to perform, and he would perform it to the top of his ability.

Well I'll come too! You can tell them I'm your trained pet bird. Normal birds can be trained, right?

"Yes, you're right." Nameless closed his eyes so that he could see the energy that made up Endings more clearly, continuing to block Platypus's attacks by instinct. "Moni's influence has done a number on this Blade." his hand glowed, and the rust flaked off of Endings as it expanded into a full sword with a razor edge. "Nothing that I can't deal with, of course."

The clockwork creature spun around and skittered away from Sequence, then turned its head back to see if she was following.

Nameless walked into the bar and sat down, helping himself to some water. "Hey Darkness. I thought I'd come say hello. I don't think we've met."

Platypus seemed to grow worried, but internally he was growing more confidant. He'd heard Nameless was incredible, but he didn't feel invincible. There was a way past his guard, he could feel it, he just didn't quite know how to access it. Vengeance's anti-glow increased as Platypus thought about how he had been wronged by Nameless and how badly he wanted to beat him. Fueled by instinct, he stopped attacking, knowing Nameless was relying on instinct, and that normal opponents would attack harder if they're opponent closed their eyes. After a half-second delay, he continued attacking, completely changing his style. His strikes hammered down hard and fast, each one a mace blow rather than sword strokes flowing together.

so is this Nameless, or is it some sort of Narrative double? Cuz if it's Nameless, he can win, but if it's a narrative double, he probably wouldn't be able to work as effectively and Platypus would probably win.

Nameless shoved the drink away. "I don't like alcohol. Gets in the way of narrative clarity. And I'm not back from the dead, I am a copy of Nameless. A perfect copy, mind you, made by my Author. Although he didn't intend to activate me just yet. Wanted to wait for an emergency." He gestured to his chest, which was glowing fiercely.  "And just so you're aware, my Author didn't include any of those stupid regrets, or that ridiculous desire for a name." Nameless shook his head in disgust. "A name. Can you believe it? I just stood there and let Thaidakar kill me. I must've gone mad."

Nameless downed the rest of his water.  "Anyways, I didn't come here to kill you or see what kind of enemy you are. I am here to show you what kind of enemy you have to deal with. I am here now, and I will not allow you to win. I will see to it that you are utterly destroyed." He stood up and looked Darkness dead in the eyes. "You have never faced a Narrator like me. One who understands the truth." He spun around and began walking out of the bar. "That is I why I came. Oh, and Xyr? A word of advice. You'll need to figure out how to kill all the Narrators, if you want this place to stay dead after you kill it."

Nameless adjusted his defense, continuing to withstand Platypus's attacks. "A good effort, but I'm afraid you're operating on a false premise. I can sense the energy in you, and in your Blade. More than that, I can see the Narrative of your attacks. This guides my instincts, although I guess you could call it cheating." He opened his eyes and stepped back. "Well, let's see how you handle this." He pulled the converter medallion out of his pocket again, wrapping the chain it was attached to around his wrist so that the medallion rested in his palm. "See, I think Subversion downplayed this thing's power. I didn't make it to concentrate energy, I made it so that I could create Luxite. It didn't end up working out like I hoped, but this thing does have its uses."

Nameless thrust his hand towards Platypus, a line of light shooting from the medallion into Platypus's chest. It imparted chaos, tearing at the order that made up Platypus's soul.

It's Nameless, for all intents and purposes. Not the Nameless that died, but a perfect copy of him from the time of his life when he was most useful for the purpose of correcting a wayward plot.

ok then.

Platypus laughed as the beam hit him. Just because he was Order didn't mean he couldn't appreciate chaos. But either way, he probably ought to do something. He brought down Vengeance on the light, severing it. As they fought, Vengeance hit Endings, notching it. Vengeance's glow changed, but it didn't shrink, just formed into a distortion around the blade, energies swirling around it. Platypus readied himself for one final attack.

Darkness nodded musingly, "A narrator like you? You appear to be cocky and arrogant, that is every Narrator that I have ever met. Each in their own way." Darkness smiled softly, it looked odd on his face, "The truth? Then tell me, Nameless, if you know the truth and understand it completely, then why do you question your own death?"

While battles were waged and legends were made, an entirely normal human with nothing unusual about him in the slightest appeared in the middle of nowhere*.

His name was Jeremy, and he was very confused**.

"Where am I?" he asked first of all, and then: "Who am I?"

*Well, nothing unusual except for the whole "having appeared from nowhere" deal, although - to be fair - that in itself was not a particularly unique trait in this setting.
**You would be too, if you were in his situation. Don't take your knowledge of prior existence for granted! You never know when a particularly unfortunate rock of alarming size will take it all away.***
***To be clear, that is not what happened here. Jeremy never had knowledge of prior existence to begin with.

Jeremy, finding his questions unremarked and unanswered, looked around at his surroundings. He stood on a field of grass that appeared to extend indefinitely in all directions*. The sky was a distinctly unremarkable shade of gray. It let off enough illumination to see, but not enough to cause permanent eye damage were you to look at it**.

There was nobody else within view, which at least explained why no one had responded to his queries. Unsure of what to do - and not a little unnerved by the emptiness - he began walking.

*Because it did.
**Honestly, it's surprising more worlds aren't this way. Suns are just so inconvenient; in addition to the whole thing with the blindness, they tend to go supernova when you least expect them to.

Suddenly a huge spider came out from the trees.

Falvan shrugged. “Get to the center?”

Even as the giant launched at him, Arranis was swinging his arms up to block the attack, his shardblade and plot blade forming in his hands as he swiped it through the giant. "Go!" he yells at everyone, sprinting after Falvan, then realising his had wings, kicks of the ground, to follow instead.

Well, only Crickets knows that.

Sandy stood back, holding his staff in case the spider got too close.
