"I don't think it would have been that simple. They were surprisingly close to evenly matched. Part of that had to do with how tired you were before you transformed, but he's getting up there in power levels. I don't even think that Nameless could have stripped his Narrative properties, like I believe he tried to. I think they both would've died from Darkness attacking them after the duel, when they were weak."

“Platypus was vulnerable. During their fight, Nameless wasn’t trying to kill him, he was simply trying to win. But at the end, Nameless… well, I couldn’t  tell exactly what he was planning to do to Platypus, I was too busy fighting to prevent him from destroying my soul entirely, but I know that Nameless was certain that he could kill him.” Subversion shivered. “I’m never going to try summoning him like that again.”

"According to Thaid, and some others I've talked to, Nameless was always overconfident. He probably thought he could, but I doubt he could."

“I get the feeling he could have, but you could be right.”

A single crow flew down, perching on the head of Nameless.

The crow, of course, didn’t know that the head it had just perched on was attached to a body which together had the name of Nameless.

It was, after all, just a crow. A simple blackbird. Cousin to the raven and grackle, and a further relative of the bluejay.

The crow, who decided then that it’s name would be Crow, decided to caw.

Loudly.

For precisely 3.875 seconds.

Directly into Nameless’ ear.

The crow didn’t and couldn’t know this, but the decibel level was somewhere near 188 decibels. To the crow, that was simply, “big sound.”

The crow tilted it’s head at everyone else, squawked softly, then fluttered off, vanishing into the overcast sky above.

The crow would forget the encounter within a couple days.

And, because it was a crow, the crow would never understand the profound butterfly effect that its single loud caw would have on the group.

But, in TLT, a crows caw took on new meaning:

Doom. Death. Destruction. Fear.

A murder of crows appeared. They didn’t do anything, but their name was quite foreboding.

Subversion felt a chill run down her spine not unlike the chill most people get when someone walks on their grave, although in her case she felt that it was more similar to the feeling Narrators get when a crow caws very loudly into the ear of their predecessor’s corpse.

“Hey, did anyone ever bother finding Nameless’ body?”

"Platypus didn't, but I'm sure he would if he ever got around to it. Don't tell me he's still running around out there."

“Of course not. He’s dead, aside from the copy, but that’s safely inactive and in Moni’s hands.”

And also tasty.

The rudeness was a self-defense mechanism because of this.

"Oh good. Wait... wasn't Moni doing something potentially dangerous?"

"She'll be fine. It's not like anyone would target her in order to claim the inactive soul for nefarious purposes." Subversion tapped her foot anxiously. "Do you think dying hurts?"

"Um... Subsy. That sounds exactly like something that some up-and-coming villain would do." Hacob paused. "Depends on how you die. I think Darkness would do his absolute best to make it hurt, but that would distract him, and I'm not sure he's willing to be distracted in a fight with multiple Narrators, so who knows."

"Moni will be fine. Probably. And if she won't, it'll be someone else's problem. Do you think I should plan my funeral before going to help Platypus?"

"Just in case, probably. I doubt you're gonna die. Your Author seems to like you."

"Not nearly as much as he likes Nameless. I don't think he'll ever be able to let that guy go."
