urm. So Platypus hadn't actually entered the room? The room's door was gone at this point... but okay.

The shadows, quite simply, were not completely blasted away. One could not destroy Darkness' essence that easily. The darkness came back quite instantly, oppressively pushing on the light in the room. The sword parried the attack. The shadows pressed in on the room, pushing the light directly into a small pocket where Platypus was.

Thaidakar's corpse moved suddenly, convulsing. It fell to the ground. An oozy, horrible smell permeated the air as something horrific occurred on the ground that defied description, leaving Thaidakar's bones upon the ground. Those were swiftly consumed by the shadows "I do not need a body any longer, Platypus. There is a purpose to everything I do. I needed the time away from excessive narration to gain my abilities again."

Dozens of shadowy swords formed in the air, crafted with Narration and a small bit of Plot threading. They all charged at Platypus at once, not going one at a time like in the movies. They moved fluidly, all as one, making attacks at all different places.

In the back of the room, formed from darkness and what appeared to be some flesh, was a creature. The voice it spoke with was not Darkness'.

"Die, Platypus," spoke Thaidakar's voice, sounding more alien than ever before. The creature attacked Platypus, wielding a great sword.

oh yeah. I forgot about that. oops. 🤷‍♂️ let's just pretend I said he left his Unknown blade blocking the door.

The light pushed off of Platypus as he wove plot, roiling with the shadows, pushing them back and taking space, while he took the strands of what needed to happen, and intertwined them with what would happen. One by one the shadowy swords were either stopped by Plot's power mixed with the light or parried with Vengeance and hit towards Thaidakar. Slowly giving ground under the assault, he sweated.

All of a sudden, the room got very cold. Sweat froze on Platypus' brow as his eyes narrowed. Each time a blade met Vengeance it shattered, jagged spikes of shadow evaporating in the light.

Vengeance glowed brightly and Platypus began to advance. Each step became harder fought, but each slash with his glowing Blade forced the darkness out of his way.

"You forget my good fellow." Platypus panted as he parried the giant sword. "I am not who I once was."

The sword dissolved back into what it had formed from. Each shadowy blade that hadn't been destroyed unformed. The side of the room Platypus had entered into filled with light, save one dark spot. He was the one light spot on Darkness' side of the room. The room, changed into a circle, looked exactly like a yin-yang. "I am Balance. And balance is a critical part of TLT."

alright, if Darkness pushes a little more, Platypus will snap, but we can take that to PMs

Constantly being reminded of his regret by being referred to as the Regretful only served to deepen Fred’s regret.

Deep enough that it moved beyond being a one-dimensional concept and became a three-dimensional character of its own.

DETI had an unnerving habit of following Fred everywhere he went, as a physical manifestation of his regret. They looked like a ferret made of shadows, and every time Fred saw DETI, his regret deepened, causing them to grow. By the time our story begins, DETI was two weeks old, and about the size of a golden retriever.

Sorry, I've just needed some stuff off my plate for awhile.

I feel we need a change of scenery, this scenario will go absolutely nowhere. I have a better idea. Just let it happen, it'll be frickin' awesome when it comes to fruition.

Good

The voice rippled through the room.

Darkness was frozen, as was everything else in the room, including. Only Platypus's mind and fluids could work, to Platypus's knowledge, but he was frozen in place.

There was.... a presence inside the room, one that felt comfortable to both Platypus and Darkness. Yes, Darkness was conscious too, but it was not made aware to Platypus, nor was it made aware to Darkness that Platypus was conscious.

You are a form of balance, young one. The voice spoke as if to one, but it spoke to both. Balance is critical to TLT. It is something that inhabits every form of existence here. You have mastered this sort of Balance's abilities to some degree. However, if things are to work, then you must become a master of the forces of Balance. For if you do not learn, it will mean your instant destruction. Your Balance will be tried thrice and you must succeed. If not, then the eternal design shall be frustrated.

And you will perish.

Something about the voice froze Darkness to his core; emotionally, he was frozen to the core emotionally, but yes, also physically, but that had already happened. Darkness extended his soul to the presence and said telepathically:

Who are you?

I am the Future, Darkness. It said, as if talking to a child. However, I am also the past and the present. You must remember that. I've known you for a long time. Endure the tests, learn, and you will become a master of the forces of Balance. If not, you will fail.

I understand, Darkness said as he retreated.

How interesting.

Darkness's eyes appeared to him as if to close for a moment, yet they never truly did that. It was a trick Balance had learned long ago from his father.

Open.

Darkness opened his eyes and was met by..

A waterfall?

Platypus, however, when his own eyes were closed and opened found himself in a far different place. A place that one might call the end of the world.

Oh, it was the end of the world.

Dark clouds crawled across a barren sky, weeping acid trails across a moody brown landscape. Crags jutted up haphazardly throughout the region, beckoning newcomers to their dooms. There was no flap of a wing, there was no rustle of brush, there was no stir of air besides what came from Platypus himself. All that was there was the landscape and Platypus.

And the hooded figure, looming in the background, hands like a rag doll's at its side. Inside of its hood, barely visible, was the ashen face of Thaidakar Von Kelsier.

"Hello," Thaidakar said, his voice sounding... dreamily? It was an odd tone indeed, one that Platypus had never heard from Thaidakar's mouth, but it was his voice, no mistaking of it. "Platypus, welcome to the first trial. I am not Thaidakar, don't worry, but I also am him. Reality in this plane is not what it is on the others. I have never been anyone but Thaidakar, but I am not him."

The figure floated towards Platypus, didn't walk as it did not have legs. Apparently shadowy beings that are reminiscent of old friends didn't need such things, but we digress.

"Before we begin, you must know that what you see is not real. However, any wounds you receive will be, unfortunately, real. You will not be able to use your abilities on anything that you see or touch here, what you will receive will be good enough." The figure flashed a brief red and in Platypus' hand appeared a long knife made of a bright silvery metal. "With this you can fight, if you feel the need to. Any questions?"

As cute as a golden retriever, too.

This caused poor Fred to be unable to convince anyone else that DETI was tormenting him.

Abalador snapped a staff in half, then pulls out a shining sphere, putting it to his chest. It glows, then breaks, causing his veins to glow purple as he rises into the air.

A. Random Person saw this and said, “You need a cardiovascular surgeon or something?”

Which, combined with Fred having destroyed a planet, meant that very few people felt sorry for him. In fact, this group numbered only three; Fred, DETI, and a odd little girl named Miracle Sunscorcher. The fact that Miracle felt sorry for Fred was doubly strange, given that she was one of the few survivors of the planet that Fred had destroyed.

"Balance was talking to you," not-Thaidakar said evenly, "He will reveal himself if you pass the test. Balance is Balance, but you must not ask him about who he was before he was Balance. That person is not Balance. Those answers will come in time, but only when it comes forth naturally, Platypus."

“There is Balance in all things,” Thaidakar replied. “Ask and I shall answer, but this is one I cannot answer.”
