I'm still having a hard time seeing it, most likely because I imagine Mraize very differently physically. I have Molina as Mr Suit in Mistborn personally, but who knows, he might make a good Mraize :-)
Mulk he/him Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 Molina's been f'ing incredible in whatever I've seen him in. I can easily see him as Suit. Or as Odium/Rayse or Ruin/Ati. Man, Ruin...that might really work. I'm not saying your choice is bad! Just saying who I'd get if it was me!

That is the fun of these kinds of things, seeing different perspectives and discussing.
Bridge Boy Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Casting Stormlight: Kaladin Stormblessed - Steven Yeun Dalinar Kholin - Russell Wong Shallan Davar - Haley Bennett Adolin Kholin - Daniel Henney Jasnah Kholin - Elodie Yung Torol Sadeas - Chow Yun Fat Szeth Son Son Vallano - Natalie Portman 6
Kal he/him Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I can't believe nobody has casted Syl yet! I think Beth Riesgraf (Parker in Leverage) would be perfect for Syl! 4
Ailvara Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 (edited) When I think of Adolin, I automatically see Bradley James. He reminds me of Arthur so much. Personally, I give no shh about ethnicity, let the best win. Especially since he's mixed anyway. Edited November 9, 2017 by Ailvara 4
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted November 9, 2017 Author Posted November 9, 2017 @Bridgeboy Some of those suggestions are quite good. I really like Chow Yun Fat as Sadeas. @Kal Personally, I'm with Tor on this one. Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter) would be interesting. By the way, have I mentioned that Aidan Gillen could voice Pattern. I think he has a kind of buzzing voice as Pattern, and I would love for him to whisper "lies" in a creepy yet funny way.
I Am Witless she/her Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 I've always visualized the Alethi as more Middle-eastern than Asian, while the Veden seem more European. I'm not sure how hard it would be to find Arabic actors who could pull off all of the roles, but that would be the most visually pleasing to me, in relation to height and skin color. Any suggested actors on this line of thinking? It would also be interesting to make the SA into a non-anime animated TV show. I wouldn't mind watching it as an animation like the comic below. (I have no idea who drew it, but good for them!)
Harbour he/him Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Its not photo but a video about one absolutely badass asian bodybuilder. Looking at him i imagine matured Kaladin. There even the phot of him as 20+ yo guy and he look exactly how i imagine Kaladin look like. His facial strucuture can be described with Shallan's words.
kiapet Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 I don't know enough actors to do a fan cast, but as far as races go, I'd cast dark-skinned Asian actors as Alethi, and give them modified hair/eye color and everything else through makeup and/or CGI. Changing skin color and eye shape are not on the table for cultural reasons but otherwise movie magic can do pretty much anything. Characters like Adolin, Renarin and Shallan could be lighter skinned Asian actors. Mixed race actors would work well for any Alethi but I'd say they should have epicanthic folds, since Sanderson has said eyes are really how the Alethi see race.
Bridge Boy Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 @Toaster Retribution Thank you. I would have done more characters from the books but it took a long time to narrow down all my potentials to just one selection for each. My only major flaw in this fake casting is in reference to sticking with actors of appropriate Alethi heights. Most actors just don't seem to be that tall so it made it pretty difficult, and I eventually decided to mostly ignore height issues. In addition to that, Daniel Henney may be a bit too old to play Adolin. He just perfectly embodies the affable qualities as well as the clean cut military commander feel that I associate with Adolin.
Nymeros Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Look, War for the Planet of the Apes blew my mind. If they can turn a cast into a bunch of apes, they can make these actors fit the fantasy races of Roshar.
IllNsickly he/him Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 I know the ethnicity is wrong, but Since first mention, I have Szeth in my brain as Rain, from Ninja Assassin.
IllNsickly he/him Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 And Hoid/Wit has always looked something like Michio Kaku in my brain.
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 How would they make the Parshendi btw? Would make-up work, or would they need to use CGI? I have already suggested Gwendoline Christie for Eshonai, and I also think that Natalie Dormer could make a good Venli. And I still think that Tom Hiddleston is the best Hoid. 1

NottTheBrave he/him Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I like the new Aladdin guy. I could see him maybe being Adolin, or Kaladin, or Renarin... assuming his performance is good. I don't really have any interest in seeing that remake so I guess I won't know. I've always read most of the characters as a middle eastern type look to them. Shallan has looked like Jane Levy since I've seen all the art people have drawn of her. It's always been difficult to link faces of actors to stormlight, and I have such clear visions of them in my head. I don't even know where to start. I will say that Diego Luna is FAR to old to be Kaladin though, even though he's one of my favorite actors. I still giggle that Cassian is supposed to be 26 in R1, and Jyn 19. I could maybe see him as Lirin in Kal's flashbacks though. Oscar Isaac has so much of the look I picture when reading Gavilar.

Use the Falchion Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Is live action the only choice here? Because if we're doing animated... Dalinar - Christopher Sabat (Vegeta, Piccolo, All Might from My Hero Academia) or Kevin Conroy (Batman) Young Dalinar - Matt Latner (Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Clone Wars) Jasnah - Jennifer Hale (Fem. Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, Bastila Shan in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Sheena in Tales of Symphonia, Avatar Kyoshi and June in Avatar: The Last Airbender) Shallan - Cherami Leigh (Makoto from Pesona 5, Lucy from Fairy Tail, Asuna from SAO) or Willa Holland (Aqua from Kingdom Hearts, Thea Queen from Arrow) or Christina Vee (see below) Evi - Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka in Star Wars: The Clone Wars) Lift - Christina Vee (Marionette from Miraculous Ladybug, Elsa in Re:Zero, Edelgard in Fire Emblem: Three Houses) or Sasha Rojen (Ezran from The Dragon Prince) Mr. T - Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker, Joker, Dictatious in Trollhunters, Darth Bane in Star Wars: The Clone Wars) Szeth - Keith Silverstein (Shido in Persona 5, Saber in Fire Emblem Echoes, Hawk Moth in Miraculous Ladybug, Lex Luthor in Batman: Arkham Knight) Kaladin - Michael B Jordan* (Adonis Creed, Killmonger, Cyborg in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox), Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen in Arrow), or Matt Mercer (GM of Critical Role, Chrom, Ryoma/Shigure, and Yusuke in Fire Emblem Awakening, Fates, and Persona 5 respectively) Tien - Justin Brinner (Deku in My Hero Academia) or Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the MCU)? Teft - Steve Blum (from pretty much everything but: Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Amon from The Legend of Korra, Zeb from Star Wars Rebels, Grunt in Mass Effect 2 & 3, Ares in God of War) Rock - Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson The Lopen - Michael Pena Amaram - Henry Cavill (Superman in the DCEU, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) or Mark Meer (Male Commander Shepard) Sadeas - James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan from Star Wars: The Clone Wars) Wit - Brandon Sanderson himself?? Matt Mercer?? Adolin - Jack De Sena (Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Callum from The Dragon Prince) Renarin - Justin Brinner (Deku in My Hero Academia) if he's not Tien. Nohadon - ??? Shalash - ??? Jezrien - ??? Taln - Idris Elba (?) Elhokar - ??? Gavilar - Christopher Sabat (if he's not Dalinar) or Sean Bean (Boromir, Ned Stark)

ginger_reckoning Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 After watching antman I always imagined Lopen as Michael Pena. And ok, bear with me on this one, Bill Murray as Odium.
