You should try out Northern Ireland at some point. I'm low key in love with it, and it's notably different from the Republic.

I think what I love most about my country is its sheer variety. Want to visit giant cities? We gotchu. Deserts? Canyons? Giant redwoods? Mountains? Prairies? Swamps? Valleys? Glaciers? We gotchu.

It's really a pity I have seen so little of my own country. It's something I plan to change.

I absolutely want to hit up Northern Ireland one day. I hear it is absolutely different from where I have visited, but completely stunning in its own way. Besides, the Giant's Causeway is on my sister's bucket list.

I haven't seen much of it either...I've also never been to a different country.

I rarely leave New England. I've traveled a little outside it, but I've never left the East coast. Someday, if it is ever safe again,  I will get up the courage to get in plane and got to the Pacific Northwest. That's on my bucket list. And if I survive that flight, Ireland and the UK would be next.

I've travelled all over the UK, from the Giant's Causeway and Antrim to Oxford, Cambridge, Tintern Abbey, the Angel of the North, Glasgow, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales.

Can highly recommend. But I believe you lot would enjoy a relatively small town in Scotland. Wigtown. ;)

If you ever get up that way, hit me up. I have some relations in Oregon and Washington, and I'd be willing to drive to have a coffee/tea and say hello to you in person.

I will certainly let you know if I ever do!

And if you ever end up in the northeast for any reason, let me know. :-)

Hoping to be for WorldCon 2021, but who knows with this world! I figure, hey man, why not hit a convention and go see my East Coast relations at the same time? It's been years since I've been to Washington DC.

If WordCon 2021 in DC happens, and COVID is under control, I  will probably go. If I can't get myself on plane, it's about an 8 hour drive for me.

I did fly there once when I was in college, on this little plane that had two seats on one side, a center aisle, and then single seats on the other side. I liked that plane because I got to sit in a single seat, having both the aisle and the window. The idea of a plane itself doesn't scare me, but all the people give me anxiety. With that little plane, the people factor wasn't so bad.

On a big plane, I think I would be fine if I forked up the money for first class or something.

Hey--we had ReCon I close to there last year! A bunch of us went, and I'll definitely be at WorldCon 2021, assuming *gestures at world.*

We did a tour of Ireland before WorldCon in Dublin and it's a beautiful country. We even got to visit Derry and Belfast in Northern Ireland. We really wanted to get to both countries.

ReCon?

I'm glad you had a poke around up here, though other than the big cranes I can't imagine what Belfast has for a tourist.

I'm biased though. I like the countryside and the sea best.

LOL, ah yes. The one with the book festival and more bookshops than residents?

Some people called it WorldCon 2019, but for us it was REcon 1. We knows this, because we have the T-shirts

Living in Glasgow, I've been to Belfast numerous times, last time as part of a round the UK cruise. I like the architecture. The Titanic museum I can take or leave, but there are other boats / ships around the docks, which I enjoyed walking around.

I had been wondering since you joined if your avatar was the red hand of Ulster...I guess I can stop wondering :)

You flew in a Tin Can! That's what Dad always calls them. We would often take a Tin Can from my parents' hometown to San Francisco to fly international. It was cheaper to fly in a Tin Can than to drive four hours to San Francisco and pay the parking fees for nine days.

Fact #1: I think chemistry is fascinating.

Fact #2: I suck at chemistry and barely passed in high school.

You have my condolences.

Hey now, people are meant to assume it's for Mat Cauthon's Red Hand Band, stop spoiling my fun by being knowledgable

It has been absolute insanity this week with my roommate moving out (moving out in the loosest of terms. She left behind so much random junk and literal garbage) and me deep cleaning and refurbishing the apartment. I may or may not have cried this morning when I split dried lentils beans  EVERYWHERE in my kitchen.

HOWEVER, blessings do occur. After 153 days, my stupid, darling snake Virgil has finally eaten.

He thankfully did not beat last year's record of 188 days.

Snakes are annoying pills. Man, do I love my boy, though.

Oops. That should have been my first assumption, but we were talking about Belfast, after all :)

So, how often are they supposed to eat? Also......your roommate definitely moved out, right? I mean there's a possible explanation for why she didn't tidy up. Did she move in 153 days ago? ;)

I have done things like this many times. It sucks, especially when you have so much else to do.

My most recent mishap involved a whole box of small dog treats spilling all over  the kitchen floor. I was not happy, but for the dogs, it was the best day ever.

I'm laughing out loud because it took me way to long to figure out what you were saying. Sometimes I am so slow.

Formatting on mobile stinks. I can never get the quote boxes to behave.

Ball pythons are supposed to eat every 1-2 weeks, but are notoriously picky eaters. Virgil was a very consistent eater until he hit adulthood. Considering he has taken to fasting in the spring twice now, I think it is a mixture of the winter season and him wanting a girlfriend more than food. If he fasts again next spring, it's definitely a pattern and not a coincidence.

Ball pythons can go up to 13 months without food. The important part is to watch their weight when they fast. If they are not acting like themselves or are loosing a concerning amount of weight, then they need to go to the vet. Over the course of six months, Virgil only lost 1% of his total 4lb body weight, so he's fine. He doesn't exactly burn calories. Dude just sleeps all day.

As to the roommate, she's definitely moved out, I took her keys. Despite knowing that she was going to move out at the end of the lease six months ago, she waited until the last three days to pack. Then she packed with banana boxes (which have holes in the bottom, fyi) and duck tape while getting heavily inebriated to the point of puking the night before she moved, and the morning before her parents arrived. Then she got in a fight with her mother because she didn't pack right.

My roommate has a good heart and is hilarious, but she has a lot of growing up to do. She's older than me, has a degree in video game design, but is moving back in with her parents because working 20 hours a week at a minimum wage job is too hard. She's very salty at me because she wanted to stay and continue to be my roommate, and I wanted to live alone. Rather than take accountability for her own actions, she blames me, Covid, and the economy (despite quitting her job with no other job lined up in November, then getting a job at Safeway for May).

My roommate's room was a pigsty, and I have not had fun cleaning it or her bathroom. I still haven't gotten the large dark marks off her her wall from where her bed and her dirty clothes leaned against the wall. Her room is the only one with spiderwebs (which are now gone) and her white fan is black. I'm getting the carpets cleaned on Monday sheerly because I won't step into her bedroom without moccasins.

It's been a process. I switch between incredible joy at finally living alone and pulling my hair out from the state of the apartment. Thankfully, I can use 17th Shard on mobile, so I can still talk with you all when I take breaks from scrubbing! I suppose I'm finally going to get some arm muscle from all of this.

Yup.  Been there. They can work with a sheet of cardboard in the bottom and another on the top then the tape wrapped all way around (numerous times), but I'm sensing that didn't happen on this occasion.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: - that scores three on the rolleyometer.

Mmm - she didn't clean (enough)? Of course not....

With a grand total score of 27 on the rolleyometer, you are well shot of your roommate. Hang in there. Serenity will descend*; you will get there; and harmony will be restored.

( * How cool would that be? The Serenity landing in your parking lot? Mal Reynolds strides across the lot and says something pithy like "Let's aim to misbehave.")

My (now former) roommate had never seen Firefly and I find that both horrifying and sad.

The roommate before her was a massive Disney and Harry Potter nerd but had never seen any of the Star Wars or Indiana Jones movies. I'm now responsible for her crush on Harrison Ford.

Is... is now a bad time to confess  that I have only seen the pilot episode?

This first time I watched it, I only saw the pilot episode and took a few years before I watched the rest.

But that probably had something to do with the situation during which I watched the pilot...

There was this guy my friend and I were sort of dating ( or not? Over a decade later I really don't understand what that short relationship was)  when we were in college (I think r sophomore year) and I watched it with him.

But shortly after that the relationship got toxic because he was an <insert a-word I can't write on the forum> and it ended. My friend and I are still friends, but neither of us talked to the guy again after it ended.

At that point in my life, I just didn't buy DVDs and streaming wasn't a thing yet, so I didn't buy or stream the series.

Eventually, after I met the person I eventually ended up marrying, I saw he had it DVD, and I finally got to see the rest of the series.
