Yeah. The only one I highly reccomend is Enders game. It's a classic. Most of the time he had great ideas, but ended up taking them too far...

Enders Game is fantastic, and the first few of the parallel Shadow series are also fantastic. The rest of the Ender saga is pretty much as you describe....as are the Shadow books.
Alvin Maker follows a similar quality curve to the Shadow series, although the last book he wrote was actually pretty good. It's been over a decade I think and he still hasn't written the last book though so....

I liked his two Empire books, political thrillers. They aren't perfect, but there's a lot of good ideas that I found worthwhile. Card can be a Really weird writer.

Yeah. It makes me sad. The pathfinder one was one of the coolest time travel things I've seen in ages, and he took it to a weird level level again.

I loved the Shadow books so much. Bean is one of my favorite characters ever written.

Cons of today: Ow; also, minor misunderstanding regarding my work methods.

Pros of today: Got complemented on how well I handled a customer. Also, read some quality literature. ^_^ And I'm home now!

I liked some of them, but as always, mixed feelings about Orson Scott Card. Brandon knows how to limit his magic systems better... because they get a little ridiculous otherwise. And as much as I have ehhhh feelings about the rest of the Enders game series, Jane is probably my favorite character. The idea of her is just really cool.

I have 2 mosquito bites on my shoulder blade. Naturally, I can't reach either of them. SO IRRITATING.

Hoids aversion to violence kind of undermine the batman parallel.

Other than that I like it.

Um... we don't have any bells. Or anything valuable. At all.

Really? I would like a time, place, complete criminal investigation... moving SWAT teams in now.

Batman avoids guns and killing. And that only when the writer feels like it as he's broken both those rules. Multiple times.
