lady_radiant Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 (edited) What are your thoughts on Aimians, and/or on Axies the collector? I really like Axies from the little we've seen of him, but I am trying to understand why all the other races on Roshar are not down with Aimians. I am intrigued. Eki Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 I'm guessing much of it is just xenophobia. I don't think we've heard much about them interacting with humans at all.
soulcastJam he/him Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 (edited) I assume Aimians are somehow physically connected to the cognitive realm because of the reverse shadows and the ability to rewrite their bodies with thought. Maybe they are a cross between humans and spren. As to how they are received, immortals tend to be disliked in literature and the Axies talks about completing his research in just a few more centuries. They are apparently as different from mankind as are the parshendi. Edited June 27, 2016 by soulcastJam 1
kenod Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The humans also think that their powers are a lot stronger then they actually are (the people on the trading trip thought that they could let go of their limbs and regrow new ones), and there where also Voidbringers who could change shape. I'm guessing that this doesn't make for a good combination,

Stormgate he/him Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 He probably won't ever discover captivityspren with that mindset, which Kaladin probably found after the Mismatched Duel debacle. But let's not get into that right now. The Aimians remind me very much of kandra. Able to alter their bodies, immortal, etc. Aimians do seem more stable than kandra, less fluid, if you will. I'm not sure what that indicates. Also, I wonder if Aimians can interact with spren like Lift does.
BrightVoid he/him Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 I think that we will see a lot more of Aimians in the future.
natc Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 If people can find issue with each other in real life based solely on darker skin, then I think Roshar being less than pleased by the presence of blue non-human people who can change the color pattern of their skin at will and have shadows pointing in the wrong direction. 1
Mestiv he/him Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 There is also the thing that something catastophic happened in Aimia. People may fear that Aimians may cause it to happen to them too.

Axies states that he does not want to bring any bad luck upon the beggar he meets, and then says that he has learned to take things as they come, because of the Curse of the Kind. So maybe this curse follows all Aimians, and brings bad luck. When we have seen Axies, he has never really been in a good spot. Theory: what if the Aimians as a people received a curse and a boon by the Nightwatcher at some point. And the Curse of the Kind comes from her?

From another post, it has been speculated that something was going to destroy Aimia, but one of their leaders made a deal with the Nightwatcher. The boon is that they survived, but the bane is the Curse of the Kind. Also, Axies stated that "Aimians, even Siah Aimians, were rare." Maybe only the Siah Aimians have the Curse of Kind? Please respond.

Please respond. I think you refer to the thread about this, which I started :-) I thought this was a nice theory, but then this thread died, so I made a new one. Only Siah having it is very possible. I can imagine the Dysian Aimians to be very different, and perhaps, a larger mystery in the series. And then, very different from Siah. It would be cool if there was some sprt of conflict between them, maybe because the Siah were the ones who went to Nightwatcher, while the Dysian did not. That the Dysian never went to Nightwatcher could also explain why they are so rare: more of them died.
Ardjet Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 What were the races that have Parshendi in their ancestry, again? I think it was Horneaters and...Herdazians? Do Aimians have some Parshendi blood, can anyone recall?

From a recent search of WoBs about Parshendi I remember: you are exactly right about the two human-Parshendi mixed races Aimians are not human at all. And I seem to remember the two Aimian races are really different from each other. But that may have been my interpretation, I wasn't paying much attention to that part. (And right now I'm on the computer from which I have no access to theoryland, so I can't check.)

The other form looks very different, possibly not even humanoid.
