I personally thought those were the captivityspren that Axies the Collector mention that he's searching for. They could be boredom, though. Good thought!

You're probably right about it being captivity spren.  He just seemed particularly bored at this point in being imprisoned - less caged animal and more mindless tedium.

Maybe captivityspren actually need you to be bored to show up?

Axies spent his imprisonment looking for them and all, he's clearly preoccupied.

Or being resigned to the imprisonment (i.e. really accepting it vs. railing against it). Also, it could be more about killing time while waiting to be released (i.e. when time is served).

Or, in the case of Axies, not really feeling like you're captive.

Awkward if you're in the middle of class, or an important meeting or something and boredom spren pop up and start gathering around you.

Or worse... On a date.

And now we know at least part of the reason behind Adolin's poor luck with ladies...

It's not exactly related, but... honestly, how do they play poker or something alike in Roshar? When somebody has fearspren or "bluffspren" around, you probably shall call him bluff.

There have been several instances of people bluffing others in the books (the boot incident, everything about Sadeas), and no spren showed up. I think it's possible to suppress emotional spren in the same way you can hide normal visual cues, just harder.

In fact, it's possible to "fake" spren by thinking of other things, which is a whole new level of mindgames.

Didn't Shallan talk about how she managed to get anger spren to pop up when she was pretending to be a Herdazian lady?

It was the other woman who produced the spren, but yeah, that was what I was thinking about.

At the risk of being crude...do you think most Rosharian women are good at faking passion spren...wink wink...
