Mestiv he/him Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 I have a job interview soon and I'm supposed to dress "smart casual". What does that mean? Internet isn't really helpful as the definitions are very diverse... would black Adidas shoes, jeans, a shirt and sport jacket be OK? (I'm applying for Software Engineer position and I have read that recruiters have generally lower expectations in this area for my kind :P) 1

If you go with a pair of slacks and a nice button-down or polo shirt, you should be fine.

So trade T-Shirt for a shirt and perhaps wear finer shoes, but that's it. Dark jeans trousers. Not sure about adidas, but the rest is fine
Delightful Posted August 27, 2016 Author Posted August 27, 2016 I'd reccomend erring on the side of too formal, better than too casual and looking like you don't care for the job. I'd say probably dark jeans and sports jacket? disclaimer: I don't know all that much about men's fashion. I just had to look up what exactly a sports jacket is.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 I will be making butterbeer tonight. Wish me luck. 3

Should be great.
Zathoth Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I think I finished the first chapter of my serial web novel. It needs some improvements, I need to clean it up a little, fix my horrible character and environment descriptions, add some foreshadowing when I know what to foreshadow, but otherwise II am happy with it... oh and its a bit on the short side, but I guess it works. 5

Orlion Blight he/him Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Personally, I don't get the Barb obsession. Fine, she's the only teenage character that does not start out as an unlikable tool, but an intriguing character? 1

And who hasn't ever felt out of place at a party or worried if their friends will stay their friends or not known what to do when their values say one thing and their friend says another? On top of all that, she's brave and cool to have that haircut and wear those glasses, plus she isn't a standard Blonde Bombshell. She's just a person with normal insecurities and a normal body and she's trying to do her best and I think that's awesome.

She's just a person with normal insecurities and a normal body and she's trying to do her best and I think that's awesome. I don't really see any indications that she is particularly intelligent. Everything else is just standard. She's a standard friend with standard concerns and standard responses which (spoilers to follow) Spoiler Makes her the perfect vehicle to move the plot along, begin the in world explanations, and just be the sacrificial character to create tension. Her contributions to the story are: 1) Drive Nancy to the party after drawing attention to Nancy's relationship to Steve for the audience to be like "oh, so this is important to Nancy's arch!" 2) Get cut so that when she gets taken by the creature, the seeds of "the creature is attracted to blood!" Are all ready there. 3) Get captured so that Jonathon can get the picture of the creature and so that Nancy has reason to go after the creature with Jonathon, which also moved the Nancy-Steve arch along. 4) Get cocooned and have an other dimensional snake crawl out of her mouth to show the audience and characters what kind of danger Will is in. She pretty much serves the role the teacher did, which was to help move the plot along for other characters.
ThirdGen Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 She doesn't look like a typical actress (even getting genuine frumpy hair/glasses/clothes), so some of the fans get a "Wow, a real person!" effect. Also, her orientation is never addressed, so LGBT fans of the show have embraced her as whatever they've decided she is ('cause she doesn't really do much of anything.) 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 There is something of an ongoing debate on the Cursed Child Headscratchers page. Spoiler The latest answer to the question "Cedric surviving = Death Eater Cedric = Voldemort wins the war….How in Merlin's name does the math add up?" is "Butterfly Effect. Cedric surviving creates a lot of butterflies." No one has answered my question of "Okay, but how do you trace a Voldemort victory back to Cedric's survival? Even if he does become a Death Eater, kill Neville, and tell Voldemort everything he knows, he's never been a high-ranking member of the Order and so can't deliver any game-changing information," but they've been slow in coming, so I look forward to what they'll say.

Are we told in Cursed Child exactly who killed Harry? Maybe Xedric did it and Voldemort took all the credit.

It might have been Wormtail or Snape situation, where he turned, spied, then ousted himself.
