Young Bard he/him Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 I find it incredibly unfair that when you start using a new program, you have to learn how to use it before you can do cool stuff on it. Most unfair. Shouldn't all the information you require just be dumped into your head from a coppermind or something? 1
DreamEternal Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 That is why the next Era Mistborn protagonist will be a programmer. 1

Kobold King he/him Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Somebody on Reddit just PMed me out of the blue saying he found a picture of me. I don't know... I actually kind of dig it. 7

Quiver he/him Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I... I might have a crossover crack pairing. What am I supposed to do with it? Look for fan fiction/art of it? Make fan fiction/art of it? Look it away and never speak of it again? 1

Quiver he/him Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Bring thy pairing to the Shipmistress so she may pronounce judgment and give thee a course of action! He! Is the the immortal lawman of Tyrest! She! Is the alicorn princess of friendship! Together! They are going to enforce the rules and conquer their OCD so much. ...Yeah, I've been reading some Transformer comics lately, and Ultra Magnus is freaking awesome. I mean, I already liked the guy, but then he started talking about how wearing your insignia crooked should be a punishable offence, and how much he was looking forward to months of intensive studying, and I realized... "...Huh. He sounds like Twilight. I shall dub them " Ultra Sparkle". 3

Mestiv he/him Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Sooo, Twi has been sharing with us her job searching adventures for some time now and I know there are some people here with some experience in this matter, so here's my dillema: I'm working in an organization that is mostly filled with university graduates. They usually stay here for a year or two and then move on to another job. I've worked here for 4 years now (since graduation) and became a somewhat important part of the "core" team that's more permanent. However I think it's time to look for a better place to work. Why do I want to leave: There are no chances for promotion. The hierarchy is very simple, there are maybe 3 tiers and I won't get any higher in any foreseeable future. The salary is decent (comparing with my country's average), but I know I could be doing better and there aren't any reasonable chances to get a raise. I simply want to try something new, challenge myself in a new environment. Currently, I'm solely responsible for maintaining 2 projects and I'm responsible for 95% of development of another one. This project I'm developing is reaching a stage when it'll be released for the first time. So I thinks it'll be a good moment to look for other career options, as I'll be able to include this finished project in my CV. I have good relations with my employer and I'd like to make sure that my leaving won't cause too many problems. So when should I share my plans with my boss? Right now, when there is still a lot of time to find someone who will replace me, so I can help with introduction? In a couple of months when I'll start looking for new job? Or as late as possible, when I'll have a solid offer somewhere else? I don't have any experience with looking for jobs or changing jobs. I've started to work here while completing my master's degree as a part-time job, then changed it to full-time and stayed that way. I've as the same question on Workplace StackExchange and the answers were all like: Wait till you have a sealed deal with a new employer. What do you think?
Blaze1616 he/him Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 ... My recommendation: let your boss know when you start looking for a new job. Letting them know now could lead to them hiring a replacement and firing you prior to you having a job set up for yourself (not sure if this is possible with Polish labor laws, but could happen here in the US). At the same time, letting them know as you start looking still gives them time to find someone new. As for training your replacement, that responsibility really isn't on you, but your employer, so if they do hire a replacement before you leave don't be opposed to training the newbie, but I wouldn't worry about it if you never get the chance. Above all else, do not tell them last minute unless you really aren't fond of them.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Wait until you have a solid offer from another employer, then give at least two weeks of notice before leaving. Make sure your new employer knows how much notice you plan to give, although two weeks is standard here in the US (not sure what it's like in Poland). They should be understanding about it, since the notice will give your current employer time to begin seeking out a replacement.
Mestiv he/him Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 In Poland the notice duration depends on how long you work for the employer. If more than 6 months it's 1 month, if more than 3 years it's 3 months. I will have the 1 month notice, because I signed our current contract less than 3 years ago.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Make sure you are actually looking for a job before sending notice. Other than that, try to have savings that you can live on for, say, six months. Your cats need chow!
Kaymyth she/her Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) ThirdGen has not yet seen Deadpool. He figured out today that just saying a particular name can send me into gigglefits. Today is going to be a long day. In Poland the notice duration depends on how long you work for the employer. If more than 6 months it's 1 month, if more than 3 years it's 3 months. I will have the 1 month notice, because I signed our current contract less than 3 years ago. If you think they'll take it well, let your employer know you're looking when you actually start. There's no real reason to say, "I think I might do this," if there's any chance that it might not happen or be delayed. But if you've got a good relationship with your boss, it's good idea to give him a heads-up, especially if place are likely to start calling him for a reference. Edited February 15, 2016 by Kaymyth

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 By the way, Morzathoth, if you haven't heard about the Black-Eyed Kids yet, you need to check them out. My theory is that they're an evolved form of dementor that has been showing up in recent years, capable of disguising itself as a child, teen, or sometimes an adult in order to gain entry to a victim's home and prey on those inside. They only appear to Muggles because wizards would see through their disguise immediately; fortunately, Muggles are a lot smarter than wizards give them credit for and thus few have been Kissed. 1

Orlion Blight he/him Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 They're not so bad. They just want a spot of tobacco.

I have heard of them, I figured they were another generic "Jeff the Killer "Slenderman*" meme thing and didnt bother looking into them. These stories are pretty interesting though. *Slenderman is actually pretty cool, then memes happened and kind of ruined the character... They are probably indeed creatures in disguise, but the eyes being the window of the soul and all that they cant disguise their eyes. Oddly enough I am no expert in this entire supernatural thingy. I probably should be, but I dont even know what the energy I released in that forest was...

I don't think they have advanced emotional manipulation; only the ability to frighten their victims into action or inaction. Not sure why they'd need permission to enter a home or car, though. Not finished with this one yet, but the Dark Mirror seems pretty spooky too.

Hopefully they dont have internet so they can read this... Lots of things need permission. Vampires for example according to a girl I know, and about everything else that is magical according to Harry Dresden. I shall read this too.

Vampires for example according to a girl I know, and about everything else that is magical according to Harry Dresden. I shall read this too. I…was going to say that dementors didn't need permission, but there's no real evidence for this. They didn't enter Hogwarts until invited, and the places they wandered to without being invited—namely, Harry's car on the Hogwarts Express and the Quidditch pitch—were public. You could say there was a standing invitation to everyone unless explicitly revoked. Which would explain the Black-Eyed Man one user saw on the bus; busses are public and unless the driver had ordered him off the bus, he could have taken advantage of the standing invitation. Dementors never enter the dormitories in all their time at Hogwarts. Maybe it's dwellings and private property they can't enter without permission?
