You guys are all completely rusting insane.

Come on weekend...just a few more minutes...weekendweekendweekend!

ETA:  Good grief, I just got three upvotes in the last two minutes, and I have no idea where they came from...

Well, I hate my dad right now. I just got off a six-minute phone call from him that can be summed up thusly:

z3v36.jpg

According to him...

  • He told me to check to see if the dates were okay before booking the tickets (he actually had my mom call me and bully me into booking the dates, saying he was hyperventilating and we had to get this nailed down)
  • He asked me if the dates were okay before I booked them (he didn't ask me this until an entire DAY after I'd booked them)
  • I've been really closed off about the whole thing (I've shared with them all the information I know)
  • They want to help me (they've been opposed since day one and have made their positions clear)

I don't even know what to do now. I just want to curl up and cry. I feel like an idiot for letting myself get pushed around this way, but I don't know what else to do. Every time I stand up for myself, they make me suffer for it. I'm going to arrive in New Orleans with $10 in my savings account and nothing else to my name.

That sounds awful, but remember that you're stronger than them.

Step One:  BREATHE

Step Two:  Wait to see if the library approves the dates.  They might still.  This might still wind up being perfectly OK.

Step Three:  IF the dates are not good, find dates that are.  Call airlines and try and move the dates.

Step Four:  Breathe some more.

Step Five:  Be sure and PM me the link to your GoFundMe at some point.

Step Six:  Pass your tests, get your job, pack up everything, and leave.  Feel free to use strong language at any point during Step Six.

Step Seven:  NEW JOB NEW LIFE

Posted (edited)

It's a minor setback (a stressful one, to be certain, but it has the added benefit of showing the level of cluelessness of your parents)

Starting a new career is stressful, and you run into some bumps along the way. These are experiences that, as you face them, will prepare you to be the person you want to be. It looks bad, but storms eventually pass.

There are also preparations you can make to make things a little easier. Come up with ten percent of a plan, and that will be enough (worked in Guardians of the Galaxy ;)) and if your parents want to help, you can point out a specific part of the plan (this will actually be the hardest part, I think)

As Kaymyth said, pm me the gofundme link when you have it set up. I'll set up something so you don't have to worry about costs involving Bruce, that way your parents can't use him against you.

Step One: In. Out. In. Out.

Step Two: Like Tom Petty once said, the waiting is the hardest part.

Step Three: That'll be the best option, I think. I booked through Expedia, so no refunds, but I can hopefully move the dates without too much extra money.

Step Four: Trying.

Step Five: Done.

Step Six: I've already got the strong language part down. <_<

Step Seven: Hopefully, I get there soon.

Not that they'll even acknowledge their own cluelessness. It's like I'm living in Nineteen Eighty-Four, and they're already rewriting history to show themselves as the reasonable, helpful parents and make me out to be the clueless, arrogant kid who won't accept help. No amount of reason will ever sway them from their new version of history. Believe me. I've tried.

Thanks. :) Should I be looking for other ways to make money in the meantime? Stuff I can sell? I have some prom dresses in good condition.

That's a good idea, see what you won't be moving and sell. You won't make as much as you want, perhaps, but it will make packing up and moving cross country much easier.

Yeah first rule of moving: Pre-move yard sale is essential.

Oh, her mother would unspool.  They're trying to sell the house.  A yard sale while a real estate agent is trying to show the thing would be terrible!

Twi, you should totally do it.

I already took the last hard pear cider from the fridge, so there's one unspecified but rude gesture toward her. It's delicious, fruity, and only 5% alcohol, so at the worst I'll just get tipsy.

I might just sell on Craigslist, though. :P

I just babysat two small children for over 4 hours. They both had dirty diapers at the same time . Yes, I just changed two poopy diapers IN A ROW. :D

Someone, give me a reward.

The weirdest thing that happened was that when the boy of about 2-3 took some all purpose cleaner and hid in a closet and started spraying it, demanding me not to watch him.

Twi, I am so sorry. I can't give you any solution except to get out of that house. :(

I find the spray cleaner thing funny for some reason.

I'm working on it. If these days work out, I'll take it as a sign that New Orleans is where I'm definitely supposed to be.

Alright - just gauging interest here. How interested would folks here be if I were to start a thread about my worldbuilding, settings, stories, etc.? Do y'all think it would be a project worth pursuing (for you folks, not me - I'm going to be writing it all up regardless)?

Computers.woot sold out of their original deal today, and popped up a $200 Thinkpad.

...I couldn't resist the temptation.  Tiny adorable laptop is mine!  And I'm married to a Linux sysadmin, so that awful Windows 10 will be put out of its misery and replaced with Mint.

Gee, next week is going to be simultaneously good and bad for Twi. The last episode of Gravity Falls comes out on Monday, followed by Calamity on Tuesday. That's two series, done! Finnis! Resolved! Concluded! Never to have future installments ever again!

Windows 10 is actually pretty good. The only major gripe I have is that the battery life shortened significantly after I updated. (Also, no Guest Account, which is weird, but not really a problem for me, seeing as it's only applicable once every few months anyway.)
