Has his reputation changed in the past few years? I remember him being not very positive or well-liked in the SW fandom circles I was in way back when.

He the most famous Star Wars content creator and so with that comes people who hate him. It’s different when you have a following of small fans compared to a large group of fans. There is more contention in the mix.
I like him cause he is just so real and shares his opinion even if it would make him look bad. He is just a genuine person. And I appreciate that even if others disagree. But that’s fine, we can all have our own opinions.

Just watched one of my childhood favorites after who knows how many years, Alice in Wonderland, the 1999 one.

Such a weird movie, and strangely probably the most faithful adaptation I've seen. Not 100% but more than others.

The practical effects are really charming though the costumes are downright terrifying. Part of the appeal imo but still nightmare fuel.

Also, while I think part of the appeal of the books is how nothing changes between the beginning and the end, a dream story for the sake of itself, I do think it's pretty clever how they took all the reciting Alice does to make her own little coming of age story. That one flew right over my head as a kid, but I think it works really well.

And gotta say, this is the first time I watch the movie in English and goodness, the Queen of Hearts' screeches were ear drilling. Someone had fun with that role.

I love Turtle Soup so much. On that note, I'm happy to see the griffin wasn't cooking the turtle. Somehow my memory of the scene was that the turtle singing about the soup became it.

Super cute and charming movie, I will probably continue to rewatch this one in the future. Not sure if that's the movie itself, my own nostalgia, or just the fact that I enjoy pretty much anything Alice in Wonderland, but it doesn't really matter, it's worth a watch.

Lord of the Rings (again)

Its been to long since I watch them. Are you doing the original or extended

I saw the last mission impossible in theater last night. I did enjoy it. The stunts and set was truly amazing. I do think it didn’t need to be as long as it was, and I have another problem with it but it is a big spoiler so I wont say it here. But I do recommend going to see it

I will take that into consideration! Thanks for the recommendation 😁

Well, first two episodes of Lord of Mysteries just dropped. Which is a bit odd and has me wondering what kind of schedule we're looking at.

But regardless, it's good. Its so good. Animation is good, backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous, love the character designs and voices. It feels a bit like ufotable with its 2d animation over 3d backgrounds, though I think these backgrounds are more detailed than anything I've seen from ufotable, to the point I can't fathom how this is even feasible.

It's going rather fast and skipping most of the fluff, which I guess is par for the course, but it does feel really weird in a story that is originally mostly fluff. This just means that it transitioned from mostly slice of life with some action, to mostly action with some slice of life, and I think it went reasonably well.

Only issue I see so far is that episode 1 speedruns a lot of worldbuilding that the book took its sweet time with, so donghua only people might have a hard time absorbing it, but it's probably fine.

Incredibly satisfied with this adaptation so far, it's probably gonna be my main watch this season.

That's China for you. Chinese animation is usually insanely polished. I'm sure there's certain reasons for that that are unpleasant and makes MAPPA look like a well functioning studio by comparison

Oh. That makes a lot more sense than I'd like. I saw some people hoping that this show helps donghua break into mainstream but hearing that it might not be worth it...

I mean I'm only guessing. I don't actually know what the working conditions are. But it's always a possibility

FInished Sousou no Frieren. Good show, though slightly disappointing.

I think this show is at its best during those calm episodes where they just get somewhere, do some small stuff, reflect on the memories of their past travels, and everyone becomes ever so slightly closer to each other. And granted, a good half of the season was like that. But then it decides to spend 10+ episodes in an exam arc and suddenly I wonder if I'm still watching the same show.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the arc, but as something out of a very different show. Exam arcs should stay in battle shounens and special school shows.

Animation is insane. Usually this kind of stuff would be left to movies. Hell, lots of anime over the last couple years have really raised animation standards, even SoL stuff. It's really impressive to watch.

I really like the party, new and old. Character interactions are a joy.

Enjoyed the Dragon Quest references. I swear, most anime referencing Dragon Quest just insert a random picture of DQ3 Hero somewhere. So this show just nonchalantly bringing up mini medals hit like a truck. Very nice. Plus, I choose to believe that the

town where everyone was asleep was a direct reference to DQ3. And in that game the elves were the cause while here an elf was the solution, so that's a nice parallel.

Overall I enjoyed it a lot. Now I'm gonna spend a while reevaluating my expectations for the story so that I can enjoy S2 more than I did S1.

Watched Magnificent Seven. I knew this was an adaptation of Seven Samurai but wow, some scenes are the same down to the framing. It's different though. Way shorter for one but also more optimistic, makes it easier to sympathize with the characters. I ended up liking it a lot for different reasons than Seven Samurai.

Watched Godzilla: Final Wars. Campiest Godzilla movie ever and that's a compliment. Although I think it's probably too much of a good thing. By the final act I was thinking I'd had my share for the day and I'd rather continue this later. Still pretty damn awesome, might watch it in two sittings in the future.

Wonder if there's any relation between this Earth Defense Force and the games...

Watched the Heisei Gamera Trilogy. I cannot believe I slept on the big turtle for so long, these might genuinely be the best kaiju movies I've ever seen. They're just so well rounded. They cover both the fantasy and the sci-fi side of the monsters very well. The human part of the story is great and I can't tell you how much I love having a semi persistent cast through all three movies. All of them had me at the edge of my seat too. They cover such a wide demographic too. Sometimes it feels like they're aimed to kids, sometimes it's the third movie, which gets dark.

I really hope the anime is half as good as this because this just set a really high bar for me.

Watching: Over the Garden Wall

Don't quite know what to think about it.

Just watched the first Evil Dead and what the hell, why was that so good? I feel an imperious need to watch the whole franchise now.
