Day 10: Curiosity Kills

Lu had always dreamed that she would be a spy someday. The town only knew her as a busybody, but in her imaginations, she was a superb spy who knew everything about everyone. The only problem was that she could never keep her discoveries a secret. She had to show them off, to make everyone realize how great a spy she was.

Tonight she was practicing her spying skills. She snuck around, clad entirely in black, watching for any sign of movement and moving so quietly she almost couldn’t hear herself. She peered in a few windows, but nothing particularly interesting was going on. She was about to call it a night when she noticed that she wasn’t the only one out and about. There was someone else stalking through the streets tonight. Someone else who desperately wanted to be a spy? Or was this her chance to really prove her skills and find one of the Spiked! So it was no surprise to her then when she decided to follow the shadowy figure. They weren’t exactly hiding, but they were also not carrying a torch.

The skulker made a circuit of basically the entire town, with Lu following as stealthily as she could the whole way. She felt pretty proud of herself, since the figure didn’t seem to have spotted her.

The figure ducked into a darkened alley and Lu rushed a little to keep up. She was halfway down the alley when the figure stopped at the other end and turned back towards her.

With a rush of fear, but also a touch of excitement, Lu ducked behind a mound of snow and flattened herself against a wall. She was fairly certain that she hadn’t been seen, but the figure didn’t move from their spot. As she waited for the figure to move on again, she went to look around and was surprised when she noticed that someone else was now standing at the mouth of the other side of the alley.

She was trapped between them; unable to move in the event that one of them would spot her in her hiding place. Her breathing hitched up a pace as her anxiety began to climb. Were they friends or foes? What would happen if they started fighting each other here and now? What if the new person scared off the skulker she was tailing?

She was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn’t notice the third figure standing at the lip of the roof above her. Since she didn’t, she was unaware of the fact that they were carrying a large chunk of stone and positioning it above her. And she definitely didn’t realize that the sudden whistling sound she heard was said boulder falling towards her….

There was a sickening crunch as the boulder struck and then nothing. The two figures departed in silence.

*Special thanks to Elbereth for her help with the write up!*

I'm going to vote for Sart. His tunnels and lynch trains have been too convenient. It feels more like he's trying to distract us from lynching the spiked players.

Posted

Still here myself. I'll vote for Elkanah. That vote seems to me more like an excuse for a bandwagon than actually trying to find an eliminator.

I'm actually going to vote for phatt. He's just jumped on to a lynch train that was intended to be a poke vote. I haven't read the end of Day 9 yet, so that may change my opinion.

Edit: Just caught up, and I'm just a bit confused why I was subject of a Hero's last minute lynch. Does anyone have any explanation for that?

Huh. That's kid of funny. Voting produced conversation for a few posts at least, but none of it came from the person I voted for. I'm tempted to throw out another useless vote to see what happens, but I'm afraid I'd end up lynched that way.

Posted

Why is no one saying anything? Voting on Elkanah seems pointless because even he isn't responding.

How about you phattemer? You seem to be a bit active in the other game? No comments on ripple's vote on you?

Posted

I didn't actually notice you'd voted on me(emails have no color), but also a space of five hours without posts doesn't exactly mean that everyone's given up.

Well, atleast saying that got you to post. So, my strategy did work a bit. :)

Apologies; I took a brief break from SE in celebration of my birthday. Doing so may have been a poor chioce, however.

First off. Did no one see this post? Or is everyone just ignoring it for no apparent reason? Look:

EDIT: Elbereth, get that betrayal scene ready. :P

I am definitely prepping that scene, by the way.

Now, I'm actually not going to vote for Mark, surprising as that may be. There aren't very many scenarios that could have led to a Spiked revealing. (Mark, if you're innocent, and you fake revealed for discussion purposes, you deserve what you get.)

First, that tells me that we're very close to losing. That's bad.

Second, Mark is almost certainly actually a Thug. Why try to draw votes otherwise? That's another reason I know we're very close to losing.

Third, trying to draw votes means we were probably close to lynching someone actually Spiked. The best candidate for that from last cycle is definitely Ripple. The only person you could (kind of) plausibly argue for is Sart, and I trust him a good deal more.

Sorry for saying this so late into the cycle. I really wish my birthday hadn't fallen at such a crucial time for this game.

FINALLY! SOMEONE SAW THAT! I WAS WAITING FOR AGES! (insert devil emoticon)

So, Elbereth, I like your deductions, though some of them, even I hadn't thought of. :P

Also, if you see, I did it mostly purely for discussion purposes. I have been complaining (perhaps even whining) that nobody's really posting. But, I like your explanation for my reveal.

P.S.: +1 to your post! :)

EDIT: Vote tally anyone?

Night 11: Cat and Mouse

Most people didn’t notice Exisa 90% of the time and he preferred it that way. So it was disheartening to him that they had focused their attention on him now!

“Which way did he go?”

“I think I saw him turn right. Let’s go!”

Exisa breathed a sigh of relief from his hiding spot behind some crates. His shorter stature was paying off for him right now.

It had all began early this morning, when he’d been the one to discover Lu’s body in an alleyway. He had gone to the rest of the village, but their paranoia now rivalled, if not surpassed, his own. They wound up accusing him of being the one to have killed here and was now rubbing it in the villagers’ faces by claiming to have just “found” her.

Considering Exisa felt like everyone was out to get him anyways, this was just the kind of proof his twisted mind needed. So, rather than stand there and defend himself, he bolted.

As he suspected, the villagers gave chase and a game of cat and mouse began; Exisa never once wondering if maybe he was helping to create a self-fulfilling prophecy for himself.

For a village as beaten down as Tyrian Falls was, the villagers were tenacious. Perhaps they were devolving to based instincts, but as the day wore on and the chase still continued, their bloodlust just kept going up a notch.

Exisa knew that if he wanted to survive, he’d have to leave. He had a number of plans ready for just such an occasion; he just needed to get to his house to gather a few things.

He crept around the side of the crates. His luck wasn’t with him though, as at just that moment, Clara and Kane rounded the corner. They all stood there, uncomprehending the situation, for a moment. Exisa was the first to break the spell as he darted back down the alley and away from the two. They took off after him, of course, shouting the entire way and drawing the rest of the villagers.

Exisa dodged between bodies and sidestepped more than a few swinging clubs. He ducked down one street and then another; barely staying ahead of the mob.

As he went to round one corner, his foot slipped out from beneath him on a sheet of ice and he went sprawling. It was the break the villagers needed and they quickly fell on him; bashing him and kicking him in their blind rage.

They were so busy with their search and their massacre that no one noticed that the Koloss had crested a hill and were so close now that they could barely be seen with the naked eye….

From my point of view, Ripple, there were very few posts at the time. If you see, the whole night cycle after Hero died was empty, except hero's own words (Sort of ironic really).

That's all I'm going to say.

Posted

My apologies for my tardiness, but I'm in the process of writing the Aftermath. I will likely have it posted sometime tomorrow, but the Spiked win! .....Again! :P

Looks like the Curse of Tyrian Falls continues to hold. Maybe next year? ;)

How is the end even possible? Three villagers would have to die in order for it to end now.

Posted

I'm guessing it's because Meta's taken into account the inactives. Weiry publicly stated he wouldn't be coming back, Creccio hasn't been on in quite a while, and several others are inactive enough that it'd just be impossible to win.

Good game, guys!

Thanks for the game everyone. You almost had us a few times. It was a lot of fun. Thanks for GMing Meta.
