Voidus Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 So... I've been kind of out of it lately. I'll be sitting at home, watching television or reading, or being online or whatever and then just... Zap. All my enthusiasm, and energy will just vanish. Just suddenly get kind of fed up and down, and not enjoying things... It's annoying, since there doesn't seem to be any reason. Just I'll be doing whatever and then "I don't even care anymore. I'll just do it wrong anyway, and I'm not that interested, and bleh..." My mom thinks it might be a little bit of depression, but... honestly, I don't know. I don't want to say that it is that, since I don't know exactly what it is, and I don't want to insult people who are suffering from depression by implying that my lack of energy and enthusiasm and stuff is the same thing... So, um... yeah. Sorry. Kind of a rant that didn't go anywhere, but it's one of the reasons why I've been posting less than I should be in stuff that... I really should be paying more attention too (SE, Heirs, Reckoners...) Sorry. Sounds pretty identical to how my depression started, took a efw tries to get on the right medication for it since it seems to be chemical more than anything but it did help so I'd recommend talking to a gp about it, I'd also suggest taking a worrying parent/friend/partner to prod you into being honest about the problem, one reason I took so long to diagnose was that I always underemphasized how severe it was to doctors. Might be something else like a lack of sleep or a vitamin deficiency but regardless I'd still recommend talking to a gp, they can run bloodworks to check for other stuff. 3

Depression is fairly misunderstood, and most people think it's just being sad all the time, but it's primarily just lack of feeling about anything. It's probably a chemical thing, like Silverblade said, and while it sucks, you can get over it. However, you probably won't be able to get over it just by trying to fake happiness if it is depression. You basically have to reset your system, in a sense. It's not like brief anger (road rage) or a phobia. Talking through it can help, but no amount of cat videos will magically fix your ennui. Good luck. 3

Not caring about things you previously cared about does sound like depression, but I am not a specialist. However, if you truly feel bad, you should talk to a specialist. Simply because you feel other people may have bigger issues does not mean your issues are not significant. If it bothers you, then it is important. That being said, I do know not all depressive episodes end in "real depression". I was severely depressed while being pregnant with my last child to the point where the doctor was severely watching me, calling me at high risk of postpartum depression.... Turns out I was just depressed of being pregnant I went away as soon as I had my baby. Though, since this is "child and hormone related", it may not be the same. In any advent, take care
Orlion Blight he/him Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I talked with a pug breeder and left feeling like an idiot. I applied at a local pug rescue and they turned me down. Okay, I get it, universe. I'm not supposed to have a dog. Nah, it just means that those things worth having take a bit of effort to get! It could also mean you're dealing with a bunch of snobs that need a good smack down! 1
ThirdGen Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Mutts are, in general, hardier, more resistant to disease, than purebreds. If you go to a shelter, or any place, and see a dog who looks like fun, go for it. The dog will love you so storming much.
Briar King Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Mutts make the best pets I think. My best dog I've had is a big Chow/Golden Retriever mix and he's awesome and super patient with my kids. I've only had to pop him twice in 7 years. Both times were when my then toddler son went to pet him when he was eating at his bowl. Mutts are the way to go.
Mistrunner Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I don't really have anything new to rant, but... I just kinda need a hug. Or chocolate. Maybe I should start a "Get Mistrunner Some Chocolate" fund in the style of Twi's pug fund. 3

Mistrunner Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 What happened? Just the whole moving thing, as well as schoolwork piling up. I feel kinda like I'm drowning in... everything, really.

Everyone talks about how they need more people willing to adopt, go with a rescue, and so on, so if a freaking RESCUE site turned me down...there's a chance they're just snobs, but I'm having a hard time NOT thinking it means there's something so wrong with me that it's better if I don't get any dog at all.I'm sorry, Mistrunner. Understood. Sometimes you do everything right and nothing turns out the way it's suppose to. Just remember it has nothing to do with your character or worthiness (you have both in spades!) And when that becomes difficult to remember, we'll be here to remind you Just the whole moving thing, as well as schoolwork piling up. I feel kinda like I'm drowning in... everything, really. Overload is terrible. Luckily, it won't last forever and I'm sure you'll be up to the challenge. Just remember to reward yourself! You are going through a lot and you will get through it, you deserve a treat! 1

Ask them what should you change to get a dog from them. I mentioned that I'd be moving in a few months, and they emailed me saying "Thanks but no thanks, moving can be stressful for dogs." And it's like, I get it, I do, but it kind of made me feel like they were saying "This is so basic you should have gotten this a long time ago." I'm probably being too sensitive, but it just....agh.

Some breed rescues are great. Others are a nightmare. I've actually heard stories about some rescue groups who are so stringent that if everyone in the house has a full-time job/school, they won't approve you because the dog will be left at home alone during the day. Others will turn you down if you don't have a fenced yard. Some will nix you because you live in an apartment and not a house. It's a crap shoot entirely dependent on the people running the thing.

They did ask a ton of questions on the app. Some of them made sense, like "Do you have a problem with the noises pugs make?" And then there were the questions about house type and so on. I get that they want to get these pugs the best home possible, but it stings that I didn't make their short list of worthy candidates.

Don't let it get to you. Despite having a happy-healthy 13-year-old dachshund now, I expect that there are doxie rescue groups out there who would take one look at my 3-level house and say, "Oh, no, a dachshund can't handle that many stairs. No dog for you!" Bonus demerits for both of us working full time.
