Voidus Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 does the size of the Spike matter? Could you make an Inquisitor using Hair pins for example? Or does it have to be Obvious, eye destroying spikes? Well we've seen some pretty small spikes, earrings and such.
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Yes, but could you make an Inquisiotr with just earring sized spikes?
Windrunner he/him Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Yes. Smaller spikes just decay faster when iutside a body. The Inquisitors had railroad-spike sized spikes because of the intimidation factor.
Oudeis he/him Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 If a kandra with the Blessing of Awareness had spikes for allomantic and feruchemical tin, copied an eagle to get great telescopic eyesight, burned tin to improve this sight, stored all of this sight (Blessing, eagle, and allomantic) in a tinmind, then burned that tinmind to compound it all allomantically... would he be able to stand on Roshar and read an eye-chart on Braize? 2

I like this question. - A recent calculation done has shown that projectiles thrown by a Mistborn have the potential to reach Mach 3 fairly easily, is this accurate? If not, how fast can a Mistborn/Coinshot propel an object?
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 If a Kandra gets two blessings (Like TenSoon did), and then Split his body into two different Bodies, each with their own Body, Would the second body be a new Kandra, an Extension of the first, a a lump of Muscle with Spikes in it? It's been Thought that there is a Burnable metal that turns you into a Feruchemist (Known currently as Sazedium). Can you store any possible attribute in this Metal? If you Spike a power out of a Mistborn or Feruchemist, and they live, would they still have the other 15 powers? 1
Curiosity he/him Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Is there a way to make a universal metalmind (store any and all attributes inside one metalmind)? Does it involve Sazedium (alloy of Atium and Lerasium)?
Oudeis he/him Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 If a Kandra gets two blessings (Like TenSoon did), and then Split his body into two different Bodies, each with their own Body, Would the second body be a new Kandra, an Extension of the first, a a lump of Muscle with Spikes in it? I suspect that a kandra is more like an amoeba, and less like a mass of silly putty. I think that, although malleable, it does have a single perimeter, and I'm not sure I agree it can be split in two as easily as you say. This is, of course, flagrant speculation.

HerowannabeAlso, what would happen to a Kandra if you bisected it down the middle with half of its blessing ending up in either half? Brandon SandersonThat would be—like ripping off any other piece of it—that would be very disturbing for the Kandra. But they could reabsorb and come back together. They would not be able to function half and half, that would eventually kill them basically. They can’t like send pieces of themselves off and do things. They can be ripped apart and heal, but if you ripped them in half, that would be killing them. I think that what Outis says is right, judging from this WoB. 2
Oudeis he/him Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) I think that what Outis says is right, judging from this WoB. Um... actually this rather handily disproves me. In one aspect, I was right, because there is a limit to how divisible they are, but the specific limitation I proposed is very definitely not this one. Interesting to note, however. The Blessing, it seems, is not the be-all and end-all. They require the Blessing for sentience, but it's only one part, and there are other things they seem to require, as well. EDIT: Rather an allegory for realmatics, in that regard. A realmatic view of the cosmere is important, critical and crucial, but I occasionally see people act like it's the totality of what matters. Some laws of physics and Investiture exist independently, regardless of what people "think" of them, which is why a Lurcher can never simply "believe" that he can burn atium and then be able to burn atium. Jo and the Bush all/any Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Since Kandra/mistwraiths can change their shapes and muscles, where are the Hemalurgic Bindpoints?
Titan Arum Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 If a person from Scadrial and invested with Feruchemy were to travel to Nalthis, would they automatically be invested with Breath due to their investiture from Scadrial or would they be Drab? If a worldhopper, not from Nalthis, were to die on Nalthis, could they be Returned? If they were Returned, would they keep their investiture from their home planet and would they maintain their memories as well?

If a worldhopper, not from Nalthis, were to die on Nalthis, could they be Returned? If they were Returned, would they keep their investiture from their home planet and would they maintain their memories as well? Both are answered. Zas678 Can a Drab Return? Brandon Sanderson A Drab can not Return as the Returned are known, and there are things about the Drab that are not completely understood. But a Drab without a Breath, it’s going to be very hard. Drabs do not Return. Good question, by the way. No one has ever asked me that before. NutiketAiel "If a native of Sel or another Shardworld travelled to Nalthis, would they be a drab?" Brandon almost answered quickly, but then got a thoughtful look and paused to consider with a "hmm." After a moment, he replied: Brandon Sanderson "No, they would not be a drab. But, no one would be able to take their breath." NutiketAiel "If such a person died on Nalthis, could they Return?" Brandon Sanderson "No, they cannot Return." (Sorry for not providing sources, it is impossible to highlight things properly on this tablet. If you really want them, just ask!) 3
Kurkistan he/him Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) If a person from Scadrial and invested with Feruchemy were to travel to Nalthis, would they automatically be invested with Breath due to their investiture from Scadrial or would they be Drab? They would not be Drab but would not automatically get a "Breath" in the sense of Endowmenty, giftable innate investiture. It seems that Breaths are an Endowment thing. @Moogle Ah, I see your Ninja ways. My first link is for your second citation. EDIT: Also, that first WoB doesn't quiet answer the question. It tells us that Drab => No-Return, but not neceessarily that Not-Drab => Return. For all we know (and I'd even say "in all likelihood") the Return process requires not just that you not be drab, but that you have the Endowment-granted Breath. Titan Arum Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Thanks, Kurkistan and Moogle! I see that there are 71 pages of questions here and as a newbie, I didn't currently have time to dig through all of them or the WoB. This leads me to my next question, but please let me know if it too has been answered: if a worldhopper has Breath on Nalthis but nobody can take it, is a native of Nalthis then unable to perceive the Breath and thus they would assume the person to be Drab (assuming that the non-native person doesn't have any additional Breath purchased on Nalthis)? I ask these questions because I am researching who the Terriswoman worldhopper may be...
Kurkistan he/him Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I would assume from how Brandon's answered these types of questions (here's another instance) that the Nalthians wouldn't perceive any difference between a muggle Scadrian and a 1-Breath Nalthian. He equates Breath to innate investiture/life-force, and recall Vasher's ability to Life-Sense Syl of all people, not to mention Kaladin. You can't Life-Sense drabs—though in that case I suppose a (thin, given the proponderance of evidence) argument could be made that he was detecting their extra investiture rather than native investiture. Moral of the story is that "life sense" seems to be more akin to "investiture sense" than anything else, so if you have innate investiture you don't look like a Drab. 1
Oudeis he/him Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Would a Tineye have difficulty hearing through a wall lined with aluminum?
Titan Arum Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Would a Tineye have difficulty hearing through a wall lined with aluminum? I would say that yes, they would have difficulty (if not being impossible), since we already know that an aluminum-lined hat blocks emotional allomancy. This seems like almost exactly the same principal, but for Tineyes.

Moral of the story is that "life sense" seems to be more akin to "investiture sense" than anything else, so if you have innate investiture you don't look like a Drab. Part of the issue with this is that all things seem to be made of Investiture. Sazed remarks that everything on Scadrial except people is made of half-Preservation and half-Ruin. Maybe he was being metaphorical? Lift's ability to convert food to Stormlight suggests that this is the case, however. So... why can't you sense the Investiture of rocks? Dunno. To go with Kurk's possibility, it could be that they sense the extra Investiture each person has because it stands out amongst all the other Investiture that they sense. They might sense the Investiture of rocks, but they also sense the Investiture of air and everything else and so they tune it out - but people are different enough to show up on their radar. It's also possible the Investiture of people is different than the Investiture of things. Overall, I remain uncertain. Would a Tineye have difficulty hearing through a wall lined with aluminum? Interesting question. My guess is no, because tin is internal, whereas affecting something with external metals seems to require working through intermediary connections (which steel/iron highlight as blue in your vision), and aluminum seems to block those connections (maybe?). I'd really like this one answered.
