I've finished Pyramids as well, but I already did small gods. Next Pratchett I've got is Hogfather

Still on Fires of Heaven. No idea if I posted about it in the first place, heh.

Its been slow, nearly two weeks since I started. I've been trying to read it but I'm finding it really hard to get through, for some reason. :/

I'm kinda with you on having a hard time getting through them with the FoH and the one before but I also find the characters a lot more interesting now (Really just Rand gaining confidence). I think it is a hard series to read straight through though. After a while I feel like I do not need to know what every tree or dress looks like.. I decided to take a break and read a couple quick books before Lord of Chaos.

I'm halfheartedly rereading The Name of the Wind. I recently reread The Wheel of Time, then read Robin Hobb's new book, then reread all the Cosmere books. I'm having a lot of trouble finding something I want to read after spending so much time on books that I unabashedly love.

I'll second the Malazan suggestion. working my way through it now (about to start book 7 out of 10).

Ever tried the Malazan series?

Yeah, I read the first 400 pages of Gardens of the Moon, and I gave up. I hated all of the characters, wasn't much interested in the magic or settings, etc. I still plan to give it another try eventually. It may have been timing more than anything else that kept me from enjoying it. I think I started right after the first time I read The Wheel of TIme, which is full of likable characters (even if you disagree, you have to at least admit that they're supposed to be likable, while the Malazan characters are not).

Otherwise, I really don't know why I was so turned off by it. It's not just because it's dark. I love R. Scott Bakker's Second Apocalypse books, and they are as dark as can be. I just really didn't like what I read. But, like I said, I'll give it another chance one of these days.

I'm a bit surprised at this, actually. there have only been a few characters in Malazan that I didn't like from the start (and a couple of them have grown on me actually), and my main complaint about WoT is that most of the main characters (Mat and Perrin excepted) tend to be very annoying (Rand is alright at the start, but goes downhill quick IMO)

Boy, you're not kidding. I have not read Aspect Emperor yet, I figured I'd start it once the Unholy Consult comes out, but Prince of Nothing was fantastic.

This happened to me the first time I tried to read Malazan.  I couldnt take it after WoT and Stormlight.  The first book doesnt make much sense, because you have no idea how magic works, and you dont have a sense for the world as a whole.  It was also written ten years before the second one so some of the things that happen in the first book end up being non cannon and ignored throughout the rest of the series.  However I went back after a few years and I loved it.

I'm planning on reading Skin Deep after, maybe a Steven King I have sitting on my self.

Actually, The Unholy Consult is no longer the next book. You see, his publisher was giving him problems over the length of the manuscript, so he finally just split it in two. The Great Ordeal is coming out next year (maybe in July; it's not clear yet), and The Unholy Consult comes out the year after. Amazon is already listing the release date as 7/5, but Bakker is still saying that nothing is firm just yet. Assuming that the page count Amazon lists is correct, it's only 496 pages, so chances are that if he just had a different publisher, none of this would be a problem.

by break you mean read New Spring, right?

not quite sure what to read, actually. I have some but.. man I just want to finish Wheel of Time.

NS is best read before bk 1 for 1st timers. It's a bad bk but if read 1st not nearly so. That's what I did my 1st time and on my 2nd and 3rd time through I just skipped it.

That's good that it's coming out "soon", I'll have to start reading The Judging Eye soon.

I'm back on WoT, took a break after struggling with the first 4 books but enjoyed FoH and almost through LoC. I'll keep going as well I think.

I posted about it on tumblr, heard hugely otherwise. Most of my Wot followers (who've accumulated due to my livebloggging.. if you can call it that) said that I should read it after book five but before the end, and that it was one of the best, if not the best, out of the series.

It was about five or six people who said just about the same thing. Eh, I'll probably enjoy it anyway; Moiraine and Lan are my favorite duo in Wheel of Time thus far. platonic friendships will forever kill me

All of this is good to know. Sounds like its mostly a hit or miss depending on the person.

Eep, once I managed to get through Fires of Heaven I'm going to read Skin Deep, maybe read The Martian before getting into either New Spring or Lord of Chaos (depends on which one I get my hands on first)

During my WoT break and since I finished my 52 book Goodreads challenge for the year I decided to re-read The Martian and Ready Player One. Man both of those are extremely fun reads this is only my first re-read for both and I think I liked them better the second go round.

About to start Lord of Chaos.

I may need to cheat and sneak in a short story, or a novella, or something... I think there was a way to look at how many pages I've read, since that's more important to me, but I can't find it. At least the vast majority of the participants are also not ready...

I'm about two thirds through Hogfather, it's one of my favorite Death books so far, definitely above Reaper Man.

I'm also about halfway through The Aeronaut's Windlass. I picked it up at the library on a whim because I couldn't get into Dresden, so I wasn't expecting to be able to get into this new series. It's actually really good though, and I'm loving the lighter tone. I'm way more comfortable reading it. I'm not a cat person, so the cats aren't doing anything for me, aside from that I can't think of a real downside to the book. Are the Codex books closer to this series or Dresden in tone and content?

I... I couldn't help myself.

I started Lord of Chaos. I'm going to regret not taking a break.

I really like Lord of Chaos. A lot of the major plot points for the rest of the series are set up in that volume. Also, the ending is hidden in this one. And the end of the book is really cool (but maybe not so much for readers who are not keen on the battle scenes).

Just finished Terry Pratchett's Small Gods. In short, one of my favorite Pratchett books, with one of his best - and most satisfying - endings. Good takeaways there too.

Indeed you will :P

I've finished The Law of Peoples this week, read a collection of Rick and Morty comics, and read The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi yesterday.

I'm also a little behind on my 52 books goal, but that's why I got poetry books, comic book collections, and Legion: Skin Deep
