I wasn't a huge fan of Abercrombie. I read the two first books of his First Law trilogy a few years back and I haven't felt the need to read the third one. From what I could gather, those books are either a massive hit or a massive hit: either you love them or they don't work out for you. This being said, I can see why so many people love them, but they aren't for me.

I have great hopes for Brent Weeks :o

Same thing here. I didn't even make it to the second book though. I don't mind dark or gritty writing I just couldn't find anything to latch on to.

Lightbringer is really good. Kip is a great character. I liked the last book the least (mainly just got tired of one thing not happening over and over). Really looking forward to the conclusion.

Just finished all the Alcatraz books (apart from The Dark Talent, which my local library doesn't have), and I've started reading the graphic novel Maus. I've also been reading Empress, a book about Empress Wu of China.

Yeah, I ended up disliking the books for the same reason as you. It wasn't the grittiness nor the violence which bothered me, but the fact I ended up not caring about any of the characters. Also, the way the story is narrated, it more or less prevents you from actually liking any of those characters. It is not a bad story, but I have noticed a certain type of readers just couldn't get into it. Apparently, I am one of those.

What bothers me however is they are often recommended. Oh you liked Sanderson, read Abercrombie :o

I just finished The Hero of Ages. Holy cow, it's been a long ride. I freaking loved these books, why didn't I read Mistborn earlier?

Same feeling when I finished it too. Complete it by reading - Mistborn Secret History. You will thank me.

I've put Arcanum Unbounded on hold, so I'll get that soon. For now, the next Cosmere book on my list is Elantris. Of course, I've got plenty of other books to read before then as well. Non-Cosmere, of course.

Oh, I know. I know, I wasn't gonna read Arcanum until I'd read the rest of the Cosmere. I put it on hold because I knew I'd be able to read more Cosmere books before I finally get it because it isn't gonna be back in the library until the 22nd. And I read really fast too, so it won't really be a problem.

Oh, I should've said non-Sanderson. I have several other books from other authors I need to read.

Finished Brigham Young: Pioneer prophet by Turner. The author is not Mormon, but seems to be fair in his assessments. Some lds people might find this book disturbing, but I loved the idea of, in my opinion, God working through deeply flawed men. Also I look at Brigham as not the prophet we deserved, but what we needed. The church was on the verge of extinction after Nauvoo and a strong hand was needed to pull everyone up, lead a migration, and settle in a remote territory. It is also unfair, in my opinion, to force 21 century morals on someone from that era. It was a fascinating book.

I just finishe Scythe by Neal Shusterman. It was really good, and it honestly didn't take me that long to read. Especially compared with how long it took me to read the first Mistborn trilogy. I never realized how much more Brandon Sanderson writes than most other authors. Of course, Scythe was still amazing. I loved how he worked with the idea of death being something humans control.

Just started Witchy Eye by DJ Butler, which promises to be an interesting ride. From the blurb and the author's own description, it sounds like part flintlock fantasy and part alternate American history, so I'm sort of expecting a cross between Brian McClellan's Powder Mage books and Lincoln's Wizard by Tracy Hickman and Dan Willis.

Just started on basillisk station.  I'm not normally one for female protagonist's, as I find it hard to identity with them.  But this one is pretty gender neutral so far.

The first mate character seems like he's there, just to be contrary.  Not even having a good reason to dislike the captain of the ship.  Its kinda annoying actually.  I'm hoping the captain pulls him into her quartets and asks him This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules is going on.

I just finished a small book on Turkish history and culture, and I liked it I suppose, but it wasn't great. I also read vol 3 of the Sandman, and it was excellent. I see why these books are considered so important to the comic world and the horror/paranormal fantasy genres.

I'm listening to Hamilton: the Revolution, the book all about how the musical was made. Every bit that I learn about the show makes me love it more.

About halfway through listening Free the Darkness by Kel Kade. I normally avoid self published authors bc I figure if it was any good then a publisher would of picked it up. This book is excellent however along with the skills of the narrator Nick Podehl.

Oh man, you're missing out on some really good self-published books. The first and most important one that comes to my mind is Nice Dragons Finish Last and the rest of the Heartstrikers series by Rachel Aaron. She self-publishes them, but that doesn't stop the books from being truly outstanding. I've given 5-star ratings to all three that've been released so far and taken the time to write an in-depth review for each one. I don't do that for just any book, only the ones I really love.

Thanks for the heads up; I did read her Paradox trilogy (which was fun) that she wrote under the name Rachel Bach. If you are a fan of her work than I recommend this science fiction trilogy.

I just finished Rothfuss' The Wise Man's Fear this morning. I'll probably quickly read through The Slow Regard of Silent Things then I think I am going to re-read Warbreaker as it has been a couple of years.

Welcome to the Waiting.

Sadly, I am no stranger to it. I did it with Wheel of Time and am still doing it with A Song of Ice and Fire, one more series will do no harm. On that note, I suppose the Cosmere counts towards the waiting although Brandon's machine like writing speed makes that notably more bearable.

Someday I'll start a series that is finished... but not today.

I don't know if you are aware of it, but there is also a novella(?) The Lightning Tree set in that world featuring Bast, if you needed another thing to tide you over a bit

Currently, I'm reading the Aeronaut's Windlass, by Jim Butcher.

Also, it's good to find more Shakespeare fans. Everyone at my school just kind of randomly stares at me when I quote him (or anyone else, for that matter).
