One of my favorite authors had a contest on his facebook page where he was standing under a mountain somewhere in Utah and the first one to guess, which one, would win a first edition signed copy of his book. I copied and pasted a list of every mountain in Utah in the comment box. He declared me the winner out of sheer ingenuity!

Yeah I really want to go there next time I'm in Melbourne, though they put in huge stadium-style seating and I've heard it's not very intimate any more. But I still must, fairy penguins (or, as I think of them, the Fae) are so sweet :) My girlfriend will love it either way, ain't no penguins in the Czech Republic!

When I was there a handful of years ago it was boardwalks. Thought it was all commercialism but apparently it's to keep the penguins safe. Not suuuper intimate but still adorable.

Need I say more?  This photo was actually taken yesterday, of my then 3-day-old baby boy.

I haven't been on a lot today, because I've been working on my new house. Painted the door, changed the locks, and started on my kids room (painting).

It's been a stressful but fun first day as a homeowner.

And congrats @Jondesu, cherish it. It goes by way too fast.

I know.  I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old, and they're stinkers now. :(

I still love them, though.

Congrats @Jondesu! Remind me to come back and upvote you tomorrow because I've already run out for today. :P

In other news, I went down to San Antonio for the big TBA (Texas Bandmasters Association) Convention. It was so cool because there was all this music stuff down there, and there was this really good composer that talked to us and gave some advice and tidbits about what it's like to compose...and he played the piano for us when we gave him five random notes and he made an amazing song. It was beautiful, and he came up with it on the spot and everything. And then he took the main melody of one of his other published songs and made a beautiful sad piece about what it's like being a father of a little 2 year old that has to travel a lot and how he called his son who missed him...ugh, it was so beautiful and it made me want to cry. Several people in the audience did cry though.

And then the next day I got to go to the DCI Southwestern Championship. That was an absolute blast. It was so cool seeing all these amazing corps in person, and it was awesome seeing my two favorites live. And the last corps that performed, the Blue Devils, while I'm not a huge fan, had an amazing show and definitely deserved to win. Like...that show was phenomenal. I'm only sad that I decided to go to the lot, which is where the corps warm up before they perform, right as one of my favorite corps was about to perform. I'm so sad I missed them. Plus, they're not even gonna be at the DCI event I'm going to tomorrow either.

Anyway, I had a very eventful past couple days, and it was so much fun!

For the last week or so, we had some political turbulence in Poland. Our government tried to pass 3 bills that would practically give them full control over our courts (totally breaking our constitution, but they don't care). It would be "bye bye" to independent courts and in a matter of fact to democracy. Every day there were protests on the streets, thousands of people every day shouted before our president's palace to not sign those bills. Unfortunately, our president (coming from the party that's in power) has a track record of signing every garbage the government comes up with, no matter if it breaks the constitution or not.

Today, the president announced that he will sign only one of the three bills. The other two will have to be changed. That's not perfect, the government will get more control over courts than they had so far, but the Supreme Court stays untouched (for now)... So, generally, it's bad that even one bill got signed, but it's far better than I expected, so I count it as a good day!

I had a great day at Antelope Island yesterday. Found some cool shorebirds and got a few decent photos of a pair of Great Horned Owls! I'm still sorting through the 300+ pictures I took, but here's one of an owl for now.

So I have had the best 24 hours of my life I think. I've been at a thing in NYC at Columbia University debating the ethics of war and terrorism for the past two weeks. I've never been to New York before, so I want to soak up as much as I can while I'm here right? So yesterday Steven Spielberg's upcoming film The Papers was shooting On campus. So I camped outside the set to see what I could see and hopefully catch a glimpse of Tom Hanks or Spielberg. I didn't unfortunately, but it was still a ton of fun and I loved watching the extras. During the afternoon I spent aproximately an hour arguing the merits and reasoning for torture in war in order to finally make my point that I think that torture is both wrong and an unwise strategic resort. That evening I went to Wicked. I've grown up on the soundtrack and have SO much emotional investment in it, and I've never gotten to actually see the musical, so it was one of the biggest emotional pay offs I've ever experienced and it took me to tears at least three times.
Than this morning I was able to attend a free Imagine Dragons concert in Central Park. They are BY FAR my favorite band, and both their music and their real lives have helped me and comforted me in the worst parts of my depression. I missed going to one of their concerts on their last tour, and I was worried I'd miss them on their upcoming tour as well, so I really can't describe how excited I was to be able to go.

We did some more cool things while debating war and stuff today, but I won't go into detail right now.

I made my summer visit to the Bristol Renaissance Faire, my former place of employment and one of my favorite places on earth, to discover that the Sabersmith had a naginata that was a dead ringer for Mat Cauthon's ashandarei. Unfortunately he'd sold it by the time I'd gone back to take a picture of it, but we had a rousing discussion of the Wheel of Time and I implored him to begin reading Stormlight. I took a picture with one of his amazing creations, anyway. Rude gesture courtesy of my sister, who deserved it.

Lol. I really wish I had the time or place to do Cosplay. I don't want to drive to Houston or NOLA to go to events. I enjoyed Heros of Cosplay/Cosplay Melee on SyFy.

Ren Faire is really more wear what you want more than cosplay. I mean, I encountered a Deadpool wearing a cape and burger king crown last year, lol. Some people go all out with period accuracy, but is my opportunity to wear a corset and contact lenses. I hear the faire in Texas is a big deal!
