There's the freedom to get snacks whenever you want, the freedom to wander around malls by yourself, the freedom to make web accounts without asking a parent or guardian's permission... ...the freedom to acquire employment, the freedom to take one's place as a mindless drone in a society that hates you, the freedom to slowly and crushingly realize that you will never, can never fit in with any of your peers... * cough * Sorry, what were we talking about? Kobold King, one of the best things to learn about being an adult is that you no longer have to consider just your age contemporaries as your "peers". Peers aren't determined by what year you were born. Your peers are the people who love the things that you love, who joke about the same things you joke about, and who love to learn about the things you love to learn about. We are your peers. Except when it comes to hilarious, random ramblings of mad genius. In that, you are our superior. Amazing. Slow clap. I won't be able to adult. Yes, you will. You're in a crazy-rapid growth stage of life. You will change by leaps and bounds in the short time between now and graduating high school. Every stumbling block you defeat, every report you research, every exam you drudge through is an accomplishment under your belt. Now, being a teenager again, that is something that I wouldn't do for any amount of money. 3

I used to think is never be able to pay a credit card bill or save money or manage on my own without my parents reminding me every day, but then I took those responsibilities on, and I found that I actually did well. I'm still not really on my own yet, but I've spent a few weekends by myself--just me, the dogs, and Netflix--and it was actually very pleasant. I made my own meals and they were delicious. I did whatever I needed to do to keep everything running smoothly, and run smoothly it did. You'll do better than you think you will. Independence is scary before you have it, but once it's yours, you wonder whatever scared you so badly in the first place.

It's highly encouraging to have people jumping up to speak words of comfort to me--even if, like now, I'm not actually disgruntled about anything. And I don't know about being anyone's superior. If anything, I just have a few more short-circuited brain cells than the average Sharder. 2
