"Of course not. We just care for each other."

With that, a wall of rushing of wind hits them, the man staggering a step back. The transport comes to an abrupt stop, hovering around 20 feet above their head. At closer inspection, the orb also apears to be full of lighting, crackling in the same way as the transponder the man used earlier.

Dayla circles around it, trying to get a sense for how it works. Nothing like home…

With that, the man waves to the crescent, which lets out a single low tone that seems to reverberate through the air and rattle your bones. A slight whoosh of air, and a puff of mist appears from a square that slowly begins to descend to the ground, still connected to the ship via sparkling trails of electricity.

Don't touch the wires.

Dayla immediately pulled back her hand. “Is it safe?”

"Yeth. Meh'Cra'Tche'vel"

No. Obviously. It's lighting. Don't touch it.

Dayla snickered, pulling a few screws and electric paraphernalia from her pocket to fiddle with. Slowly, her smile faded.

“Are you nervous?”

It spiked. Yes, her heart whispered, screamed, growled. No, her brain struggled to believe. “Not about this,” she finally said.

“Do you want to tell me what you’re scared about?”

Dayla winced. This is why it’s easier to stay on your own. “It’s not like you’re thinking,” she said. “I have a…” Curse. Defect. Illness. “There was an accident. It messed with my head, changed the way my brain works. It’s not you, or this machine, or even this world. I’m always afraid.”

"Meh'Sra'Catha?" And with that he steps onto the platform and motions for the rest to get on.

Have you tried drinking?

Dayla shrugged. “It is what it is. It’s not like I like it, but…at least I have an excuse, right? A lot of people don’t.”

"An excuse? That it isn't your fault?"

“Sure,” Dayla said. “If some people are scared of something, it’s just them. They have to deal with the fact that they’re less brave than everyone else. For me, I know that I have to deal with this thing that no one else does.” Easy to say. Harder to believe.
