But they are alive? Being alive, do they act of their own accord?

No. They do not act, they react. They are not of the storm, the storm is of them. Do not try to understand. Nando shakes his head for a second, confused.

She watched for a little while. “They shouldn’t have done that.”

Dayla shrugged. “It’s…fascinating. That some people actually live like this.”

“Yeah. For a couple weeks, when I first ran away, I lived in a slum.”

Dayla looked at her, then slowly smiled. “Me too.”

Freaky mind women said to Rue's character "Nice trauma you got there," the man is Nando, there's nature spirits that are alive but are not alive. They're in a transport, but it hasn't left yet.

“Really.”

“Yeah.” Dayla looked down wistfully. “I thought I could go back, make a difference for people like them. But now…there are so many worlds, so many people. What does one life matter in the face of all that?”

“If I’ve learned anything in the past few weeks, it’s that one life can change everything.”

“Huh.” Dayla kept fiddling, eventually forming a small person. She stared at it for a long moment before crumpling it and shoving the pieces back in her pockets. “Where are we going, anyway? If there are more people like this…maybe there’s another planet you’d rather explore.”

“Maybe. But I think I might want to see more of this one. There’s probably more culture we haven’t seen… a not so rude one.”

“Two tones,” Dayla realized. “Harmonies.” Every world has its music.

Messed that up. One mistake after another…keep going, though, you probably won’t make it worse.

“It’s just something my mom used to say. ‘No one ever made music without two tones, and there is music in everything.’” And now you’re rambling. They’ll be bored of you before we even get to the city.

She smiled sadly. “My last boyfriend… he loves to sing. I was forced to learn music, and I hated it, but he… He made me love part of myself that I’d grown to hate.”

Dayla glanced away uneasily, abruptly wishing Aventine hadn’t sat next to her. “I’d rather not,” she muttered. Insulting. Rude. “I shouldn’t have said anything.” That’s for sure.

“I.. I’m sorry. I’m still.. not really the best at talking to most people.”
