Several small fish had swam up around the kayak in curiosity, but they didn't seem dangerous.

Suddenly they scattered into the deep. Despite their sudden fear, nothing happened to Aerol.

The journey to the small island was otherwise uneventful.

Aerol stepped into the shallow, warm water and pulled the kayak to shore. Reef took flight and circled her a few times before landing on her shoulder and biting her ear softly.

"Ow," she said quietly. Reef began bobbing up and down again, and she chuckled.

"Alright," she said to him, surveying the small island.

What does this island look like? Is it basically the same as the previous one or mostly sand or what?

The island was still fairly large, but nowhere as massive as the starting island. A beach extended to the right and left, and a mass of foliage seemed to cover most of it. The trees obscured Aerol's path directly forward.

Aerol eyed the jungle. "What do you think, bud?"

Reef made a low cooing noise and tilted his head at the trees.

"Yeah, me neither. But we need water and shelter." She rubbed his head softly. "Keep an eye out, yeah?"

She started to walk towards the treeline, keenly alert of her surroundings.

He could see none of the edible plants that they had informed the tributes of, but there was a stream of freshwater.

If you would like he could approach Murr by chance, but Murr would hear him first and probably try to kill him.

After the Avox left with him, Pellee sighed and returned to her pad. She scrolled to one of the tribute's feed.

Murr went still as he heard noises in the jungle, gripping the cord tightly. He got a better impression of where they were coming from from his Aviar, but he touched the bird's talon to keep it from flying. Carefully, quietly, he moved closer to the sounds. Better I see them first.

Soorry. Class started right after I posted… oops… I’m at the edge of the jungle, walking along the beach. I’m about to move into the jungle, though.

Berin shakes his head. He might be able to get the birds to attack another tribute, but it was too risky. He carefully entered the jungle, watching his step. He needed to find provisions, and soon.

The tributes pods open up to reveal a beautiful scene.

They're lined up on a slightly curved beach, with pristine white sand. Gentle blue waves wash against the shore in front of them. The beach gently curves around to encircle a beautiful bay, filled with pristine, clear water. Beyond the bay is a reef where the ocean gets choppier. Several islands can be seen in the distance.

In the center of the clear bay is a smaller island; really just a sandbar, poking out of the gentle ripples. On the island stands the Cornucopia, laden with supplies, and even a few sturdy kayaks, colored brightly against the sand and water. The only way to get there is to swim.

Behind the tributes lies a beautiful jungle, covered in greenery such as they've never seen back on the continent. Gigantic trees and vines and flowers cover the land, leading up to a slight mountain on the island's northern side. The calls of birds and creatures of all kinds can be heard coming from the jungle's depths. A morning mist is rolling over the island, creating streams of clouds that block the morning sun from time to time.

Each tribute wears a simple orange jumpsuit, bright and vibrant in this world of greens and blues. They each have a shoulder pad for their chosen Aviar, whether it was provided to them for the games or a companion they brought with them. And, in an unprecedented gift, each tribute is given a simple outline map of the Arena, laminated and rolled into a pocket of their jumpsuit.

A soft, masculine voice emanates from speakers the tributes can't see. They recognize it as the voice of Mr. Forrest, one of the GM's they met during the many ceremonies preceding the games.

"Welcome, all, to the Dystopia's first annual Hunger Games. It is my honor to announce the start of this grand tradition, resurrected from ages long past, to unify and solidify this new government in a time of trial and change.

"Tributes: the countdown will start momentarily. Once the gong sounds, you're on your own. I'd suggest making a plan; find ways to hide, survive in this unforgiving land, earn the favor of the Gamemakers and Sponsors.

"Only one of you can make it out alive."

A mechanical female voice began a countown, starting at 60.

In the GM HQ, far from the arena, Mr. Forrest stepped back from the microphone. He turned to the other GMs, gathered around the monitors in the main room.

"Well, my associates, it seems we're on our way." He smiled slightly, then turned back to the monitors, watching the tributes, seeing how they felt, what they did as the waited.

This will be interesting indeed.

Finally, the countdown neared the end.

Here we go again!

The coutdowns started. Maj stared at the other tributes, trying to gauge their moves. Will they go for the cornucopia, or will they stay safe...

Hopefully this bird isn't useless.

1...

The games begun.

And the race was on.

Maj leapt into the water, swimming at top speed for one of the kayaks. Just like Mark told you. Get something, use it as an offering to make a team. Allies are more important than supplies. People get scared away by groups.

He spat out water. He had never been great at swimming, though he at least knew how to swim. His old house had been near a nice little river, before the whole world had gone insane.

Then the world went insane again.

And now the games were back.

Everyone's insane. Including me.

He finally reached the cornucopia, searching quickly for something small to grab and get out of there.

One kayak was left, along with several waterproof backpacks, some fishing supplies, and a few knives, machetes, bows, and crossbows.

Maj dashed for one of the backpacks, slinging it onto his shoulder and glancing at the other tributes. (If they're still there. Or at the moment when they are there.)

"There's enough for everyone, right?"

He backs away, hopping back into the water.

Bird, I could use some help swimming to shore.

His Aviar, eloquently named Bird, reacts by giving him a small burst of strength, allowing him to hit the shallows.

He stands up in the water, glancing around warily at the tributes and then to the ground below him, ensuring that no fish or creatures are near him.

Then he opens the backpack.

Yeah, true. Just stopping to make sure no one's chasing me.

Maj steps onto the beach, shaking water out of his hair.

Bird chirps.

"Yeah? What?"

Chirp. Chirp.

"Very helpful, Bird."

Squawk. Bird pointed towards the water. Squawk.

"Want me to go back?"

Bird squawked loudly and in panic.

"Oh, so I should stay out of the water. Thanks, Bird."

Maj then makes sure to look this time into the backpack, trying not to get distracted by Bird.

Who should I ping for the backpack?

Casper is attempting to pull a kayak along a small stream, his aviar on his shoulder. He cringes every time he makes too much noise and just hopes he doesn't attract anyone.

Yay, finally someone else!
