Erklitt Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 (edited) I loved both chapters. Especially the ends were so moving! Syl's chull ! And her now being Kaladin's scribe ! And Adolin has met Sureblood's spren ! Edited September 2, 2024 by Erklitt Grammer 5

dvoraen Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Guys, I think Ba-Ado-Mishram has been taking lessons from the Vessel on being angry. (Though really, after 2000 years, I'd be a bit upset.) What I don't understand is how she can seemingly communicate if she's stuck in a gemstone. I hope Brandon will explain the Spiritual Realm mechanics for this, because it seems like the entire point was to prevent the Unmade from making Connections, yet we clearly see one between Shallan and her, unless this is a product of Shallan's obvious use of Fortune. 1
king of nowhere Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 i don't understand why ba-ado-mishram can communicate with shallan for a short while, and she makes threats. you're stuck in a cage, someone is coming to try and help you, and you threaten them with complete annihilation of his whole species? for all the damage to the singers and spren, I'm starting to think maybe BAM should stay locked away... 2
gokucauthon Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I now think Syl is the author of Wind and Truth.

Just a note on this - we don't actually know that this is Ba-Ado-Mishram speaking, or that she's currently capable of speaking. Could be some other actor trying to get Shallan off the path to unbind BAM. Could be protections placed by Melishi to dissuade anyone from undoing his work. Could just be Shallan's broken psyche manifesting itself, or her reaching for Fortune and what she expects from BAM. Could be BAM herself, but trapped in the moment of her actual binding, and the rage she feels at that. Could also just be BAM herself. A Spren heavily tainted by the power of Odium and Passion and Hate, then stuffed in a location beyond space and time for over four thousand years, isn't necessarily going to be the most rational. 4

I get this. She hates humans so much that she would rather be stuck in a cage than be rescued by them. Owning her freedom to humans would be too humiliating. It's just pride. 1

Wouldn’t it be interesting if Mishram had agreed to go in the gem? Or if Mishram didn’t want to be released for some reason? Kelek didn’t see the capture, correct? And not to beat a dead ryshadium horse, but if Mishram can manifest into beads around someone connecting with her, she could actually be the StormFaker again. Clearly she is able to get messages out (unless we have a Mishram Faker haha) Edited September 3, 2024 by teknopathetic

Clearly she is able to get messages out (unless we have a Mishram Faker haha) Leave Sureblood alone The appearance of Mishram seems to cause Shallan to collapse and make her vision covered by blackness (she did collapse earlier too, but I find this too convenient to be unrelated this time). The way Mishram speaks doesn't sound like Gavliar's Stormfather at all. She hates humans, it's very, very unlikely she would want to have something to do with Gavilar. Not to mention the Stormfather was terrified by the idea of Gavliar giving up on Braize - Mishram would be more than happy to see this. It looks like Shallan and Mishram are developing a Connection due to Shallan's unusual double bond allowing her to reach SR and Shallan's very recent interest in BAM. Gavilar had none of this. Gavilar didn't even know much about Mishram before the Stormfather told him about her in the prologue. Mishram would be most likely incapable of reaching towards Gavilar and she most definitely wouldn't want to do that. Mishram cannot be the Stormfaker. Rorzikel Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I have not been under the impression that this is her actively and knowingly communicating with Shallan. As in, I don't think that's what Brandon is intending. It seems to me that Shallan is like a radio receiver picking up on something blasting out on the metaphorical airwaves. Either it is Connection and the gemstone doesn't shut off all levels or it is Fortune and Shallan is hearing something that Mishram might say if she was released, but I do not think Mishram knows who Shallan is and is attempting a specific dialogue. 2
Fyodor32768 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 I think that Shallan can hear her because of her heritage as the daughter of a herald. We also know that the unmade were influencing her family-it's possible that she has some sort of connection to BAM.
