And here´s the difference between Sam and Lucentia. Sam just mopes about her shoes, while Lucentia goes out and solves her problems (or at the very least lets them get solved). Naturally, her solution probably involves violence or the threath thereof so it´s not like she makes the better person. :P

It is true that if Sam simply asked Funtimes for another color of non-sparkly shoe, she would make it happen. She might be shocked and disappointed that Sam didn't adore her shiny sparkly pretty pink shoes, but she wants Sam to be happy. Of course, Funtimes is kind of scary and Sam hates Epics, so that's why Sam didn't set about solving that problem. :P

Though that's actually a fair point. :P

I thought of that, but it's not the sort of thing Sam's likely to try. Maybe once they get to know each other better. :P

Be happy I didn´t make that canon. You know, just to add to their creep.

I´m still curious to see how she´ll react to the hug. :P

QUASAR YOU BUNGHOLE

I have the post where she finally tells how and why she came to rescue Nathan written up, but I can't tell if it will cause Sam to soften toward her, or dismiss it as the manipulation of a truly masterful liar.

Probably depends which details she tells them and how, hard to judge without the actual post.

What, did you think I was going to say something enlightening about Quasar? Wait for the flashback like everyone else. :P

It's difficult to say. If it's the same reason I've heard before, then there's a real chance that it would only solidify her negative feelings towards her.

However, after Quota forces her to relive her more unpleasant experiences, Sam will be in a rather odd emotional state concerning Epics. On the one hand, she'll still have a very bitter hatred for them. On the other hand, it'll remind her about what she knows about Epic powers; how they can corrupt people who were inherently good before Calamity. Whether she hates Funtimes or softens up to her would ultimately come down to how the information is presented to her.

Doctor Funtime's real name is

RAFO. ;)

After (quite) a bit of digging, I realized there was more to that reason than even I thought. So the reason she shares is the deeper reason. The original reason has more to do with her backstory.

Probably, but only a few. They're pretty paranoid about leaving the entrances to the city unguarded. Even if some of the guards were sent to help the outpost, there'd still be sentries present at the checkpoints.

Okay. I sent you a pm with a tentative post.

That seems like a good idea to me. The post is really awesome, but it's a bit of a game-changer.

Perhaps we need to set up clearer guidelines for what is and isn't permitted by Vondra's government. I'll try to get on that tomorrow--it's 1:00 A.M. here, and I'm about to pass out.

Have you done this? If so, I'd like to see it.

And why Funtimes is so silly.)

I think it's like Shallan. That's how I've imagined it. Something terrible happened in her past and now she shoves that part of her memory down and acts all happy and silly to ignore that it ever happened. Like Shallan. :)

I think I found a theme song for Max.

Edit: Frequency has entered the Dalles. Fate breaker, what do you think about him joining up with Quicksilver for some time?

I can't speak for the Shallan comparison, but it's called an Emotionally Scarring Backstory™ for a reason. ;)

I like that song! :D

(Also, reading Frequency's POV, it is clear he did not watch Koschei die. Miracle Max would describe him as "very dead." :P)

I'll drop her first name before then, but Reader will have the honor of revealing her last name and where she's from.

And then she may very well chase him around the church demanding a hug. :D

Vondra's stance on Epics is pretty simple, really; when they're in his employ, he expects them to act like normal people. He calls them by their real names whenever possible; he threatens them with the same punishments he'd threaten on vanilla criminals; he even penalizes the less powerful ones for using their powers without authorization.

In practice though, a lot of his Epics are smugly sitting at the top of The Dalles hierarchy. Most citizens of The Dalles refer to them by their Epic titles or not at all, and generally defer to their orders. The most useful of them can get away with a little bit of disrespect and petty misdemeanors--Deathwish and Reader are both useful enough so that they can get away with using their powers all the time.

In the case of Reader's gun shenanigan... Reader would definitely face execution for coldly killing a citizen of The Dalles. Vondra will let his most powerful Epics get away with a lot, but no one gets away with felonies.

That song is the best fit for a character since "When You're Evil" for Nighthound. :D

Sounds like a decent system, though. I mean, it's not ideal, but it's worlds better than Newcago.

Mary?  Um, no. Not even close. :P

It's the best he can realistically maintain in the post-Calamity world. As it is, I fear that the human-dominated Dalles isn't quite in keeping with the setting.

It's not even close? Darn. Evidently I'm not Reader.

...Wait, I'm not Reader! Yay! :D:P

I don't know. It could be, given the right circumstances (a small, quiet city with nearby farms, a consistent water supply, and a functioning police department and National Guard installation), leadership (Vondra) and incentive to survive (Koschei). Any human-dominated city would have to be somewhat harsh in order to survive, and I think The Dalles is harsh enough.

Definitely a badge of honor. :P

You really should. I can't explain without spoilers so i wont.

thanks!

Well, I imagine Freq as a very religious person pre-Calamity and after he met up with Koschei, his piety took a different turn. He believed in Koschei's divinity. I'll have to wait and see what the death scene is like, but Freq is just waiting for Koschei to come back and he believes he will.

That is freaky and terrifying and wrong and I love it. :D

(And I'd been picturing Koschei's band of Epics as something like a cult, so that's perfect.)

A deranged Epic cultist... Paladin is not going to like this.

Edgerunner's a particularly powerful and useful Epic, but doesn't provide vast quantities of usable information and doesn't have a prime invincibility. She'd be severely reprimanded for using her powers outside of operations, but there will be a significant amount of effort in the city towards keeping her comfortable. I imagine that most soldiers and other vanillas would also be inclined to obey her instructions, provided she doesn't contradict standing orders.

Sadly, the deranged Epic cult leader will have been long dead by the time Paladin arrives, so we won't get to see them play an Epic game of Whack-a-Mole. :PB) Though I'm already excited to see how Paladin will react to Frequency.

Cassandra Livri was born in a small town and lived a small life, but after Calmity came she accidentally triggered an Epic's weakness after the Epic killed her parents, and so Cassandra killed the Epic. Cassandra taught herself more about fighting, and headed towards Dallas, so she could find her uncle. Sadly, he was dead when she arrived. Now she's just trying to survive in Dallas.

You're looking to join up I assume?

And Mail-Mi, just have Timeport come into the base and enter the room with Corpsemaker. He'll greet him once he and quota are finished.

Sounds good, we could definitely use more non-Epic characters, this is our planning thread so whenever you want to introduce your character in the what happened in the Dalles thread just let us know who you want to meet her here and we'll work something out. :D

Welcome to the insanity.

Guys, I think I figured out what's going to happen at the Empire/Thoughttown meeting.

The leaders sit down at the Sadrys' table. The air is tense; Team Funacid can feel the tension between Lightwards and Altermind. Nathan, knowing he and the other vanillas will be the first to suffer if the meeting ends poorly, asks Altermind what made him choose to lead Thoughttown.

A moment of silence passes; his illusion's expression remains impassive. Lightwards glares at Nathan, but before he can draw his pistol, Altermind says in a slow and thoughtful way,

"You know….it wasn't my first choice."

Lightwards is incredulous. "You? An Epic, who doesn't wish to rule?"

Altermind pauses, draws a breath….and begins to sing

You're right. He's not going to take it well at all. At all. This might be enough to drive him into Vondra's camp. Temporarily, at least. Before he goes full on sociopath again.

How do you think he and Remington will get along, once Paladin learns Remington was the one who killed Koschei?
