Just now, Ookla the Magician said:

"I thought you were just an indecent urchin . . . what would you know of such matters?"

But inwardly Will felt something strange. He shoved it away, in demonstration of the discussed theory.

Larceny grimaces. "an indecent urchin with some modicum of mental health and a large vocabulary."

"Nope! I've never even been to the palace!" Dilsha said, and then she was gone.

Dilsha frowned. "Why would I know anything about the Decay?"

"You seem like you do. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone."

Dilsha blinked and gestured at the kitchen around the, at her humble dress and stained apron. "What makes you say that? Look, I just run my inn. I don't know what you want from me, but I don't know anything about the Decay. I barely even know what Decay is!" Inwardly, she grinned. That was good! Doesn't know what Decay is...Dilsha was one of the most practiced people in the world with her magic, and Decay was only a tiny part of it.

The man with dark eyes from before entered. His staff was glowing, fiery lines tracing it. If it was magic, it wasn't a kind she'd seen before, even in her extensive experience.

"What is?" Dilsha snapped, looking annoyed. This is fun!  "Look, if you're an undercover inspector, just tell me. You can see that my kitchen is in order."

Everyone except DIlsha and Sono is in the main room.

Dilsha jumped. "Stay out of my kitchen!"

"I'm an architect. But I can tell when you're lying." Sono shrugged, "I think I know why."

Alex slowly walks into the kitchen.

” There’s someone out there,” he says to Dilsha, all levity gone from his voice. “He worries me.”

She could see lies? This would be hard, then. "I...might know something about Decay," Dilsha said quietly. It's the truth.

"And what about Decay? May I ask if it relates to you having Decay-proofed your walls?"

Dilsha let a flush creep into her cheeks. I'm not half bad at this!  "I just--heard about what happened at the palace, and didn't want it to happen here."

Sono turned her voice down to a whisper. "I promise I won't tell. Did you start the Decay?"

Dilsha took a long breath and pulled a pin out of her hair. She poked her thumb and watched a single drop of blood well up, then pressed it onto Sono’s arm before she could react. She muttered something, then said “Silence.” Immediately, Sono felt like something was attacking her voice box, her throat, her tongue.

She looked both surprised and scared at the same time, but did nothing but stare at Dilsha.

I’m assuming he knows about her magic but not about the palace. Does that work?
