Briar King Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 My tan truck, white truck and red corvette are now yellow from pollen. Come on old man blow your breath down south PLEASE!
Briar King Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 So I go to put some water in my radiator today and what greets me as I open the hood?? A nice 1 1/2 in long red wasp with wings cocked. We had a lovely game of stare off 2ft away from each other. I finished(with my skin crawling the whole time) and closed the hood on him. After I traveled about 20 miles I came to a red light and came out of a vent and flew off so at least some good out of it. 2
Kaymyth she/her Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 45 minutes outside today, the day after the first day of spring. A mere 45 minutes, and I am sunburned. ...the Curse of the Ginger...

Kobold King he/him Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 My father picked up the norovirus at an airport, and this morning my brother's been puking up a highstorm. Since everyone in the house has likely been infected by now, consider this a preemptive Bad Day post. 1

Just remember: You aren't dying, even if it feels that way. 1
Kobold King he/him Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I'm in Oklahoma. 'Nuf said. I was born in Oklahoma. 1
Kobold King he/him Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Sorry. I'm sure your part of Oklahoma is much nicer than where I am. I don't live there now. Just saying I was born there.
Briar King Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 My ex wife and I almost drove to OKLAHOMA in 05 while we were staying in ARKANSAS because Hurricane Rita was pounding our home in LOUISIANA. We had about 20 more miles to border but we were an 1hr and half away from our hotel already and and it was close to dinner time the town was nice enough to be doing for the hundreds of families that just popped up in their small city so we turned around. Interesting I know....
Quiver he/him Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) So. Let me get this straight, UK government. You were given a report a year ago, stressing the urgent need for meningitis B vaccines for children. In that time, at least one baby has caught meningitis, and had her life placed in such jepordy that doctors had to amputate all of her limbs and her nose. You still have not got the vaccines, or have plans to introduce them, because the company you negotiate with "needs to be reasonable". About money. You are not buying life-savibg vacinations- for babies- because you can't agree on a price tag. If I've misread the situation someone, please, tell me. Because right now, I see two options: Either the government is too tight fisted to pay for life-saving medicine for babies. Or companies are jacking up the prices on life-saving medicines for babies. I mean...for storms sake. I get there is a budget- I get that, in spite of everything, the health services is stressed and finds it hard to cope. But not buying medicine for babies? In the same time frame that bankers and politicians get bonuses and pay rises? I am incoherent with rage right now. I thought hearing that the US government couldn't pass a bill to protect victims of human trafficking would be the lowpoint of my political knowledge this week. How do we live in a world where that's not the case? Edited March 22, 2015 by Quiver 3

I thought hearing that the US government couldn't pass a bill to protect victims of human trafficking would be the lowpoint of my political knowledge this week. How do we live in a world where that's not the case? That's horrible! The whole vaccine thing isn't any less ridiculous over here in the states. Just make them available to those who want them, build herd immunity, and let those with allergies abstain. Simple, right? Well, it was...until someone decided they cause autism. Doesn't matter if it's been discredited. My own mom can't hear the word "vaccine" without launching into a rant about how they made me an Aspie and only her opting me out of the last round as an infant kept me from becoming "severely autistic." And then outside our family, there are debates raging about something that shouldn't be all that complicated, all because of something that was discredited years ago. 4
Chaos he/him Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Don't worry, in America we've brought back the measles because of anti-science people who cannot listen to logic, data, or evidence. Even worse, from American individualism, there are some anti-vaxxers don't even care that not vaccinating their kids matters. It doesn't matter if other kids die as long as our special snowflake is okay. There are absolutely times where I want to smack a lot of people, and this being one of them. 5

Thing is, I'm allergic to something in the vaccines. I don't know what, but apparently I had a really horrible reaction—as in, I almost died—to the vaccines. That is what made my mom think that it was the vaccines that gave me Asperger's, even though the causes of AS are still unclear and the vaccines-cause-autism thing has been discredited multiple times. But see, even though I had a bad reaction, I know those are relatively rare. I'm glad other people vaccinate their children. I'm glad their immunity protects me and others with allergies from the diseases prevented by vaccines. Just because I can't get vaccines doesn't mean I think everyone should quit vaccinating altogether. 1

Voidus Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I think Australia still wins since our PM recently went on record defending what is essentially torture and has been investigated as such by the UN just because he's a massive zenophobe but hey we're Australia, we don't want the UN butting into our torturing people from other countries apparently. 1

Things you can find in Australia: Kangaroos Koalas Platypuses Emus Cassowaries The Great Barrier Reef Uluru Things you evidently can't find in Australia: Ethical politics. I feel for ya, mate. 3

I don't even want a knight in shining armour politician to clean everything up anymore, just someone semi-competent who isn't actively endorsing evil would be nice. 3

Legends about unicorns were inspired by the horn of the narwhal. The legend of ethical politics has absolutely no basis in reality. 3

Delightful Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 but hey we're Australia, we don't want the UN butting into our torturing people from other countries apparently. ............Remind me how our PM got elected again? *shakes head in despair* 1
Voidus Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 ............ Remind me how our PM got elected again? *shakes head in despair* Fearmongering and people somehow believing the economy was screwed even though we came out of the GFC better than almost everybody.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Well, I'm probably going to get an earful when I go in for my internship on Friday. Even though she was the one treating me like an idiot and I didn't say anything in my own defense, it's probably all going to be told as the story of how i rudely spurned her help, even though I didn't even object to it. 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 (edited) Different lady. It took my family an hour to ask what was wrong, or ask about my day at all. Mom didn't even say anything until I was almost in tears. When she finally got the truth out of me, the first thing she asked was "How did you react?" Which, from her to me, means "At which point did you make a buffoon of yourself and make the situation worse?" She said it gently, but still. Whatever. She's probably right, that I handled it all wrong. I don't even care anymore, and I just wish I could've hidden it from her. I'm done. I don't want to do anything anymore.
