I'm really growing to hate the word "favor." It doesn't mean "Could you do something that isn't required, but that would help me out a lot if you did?" In my experience, it means "Do this thing that will impose on your time and your schedule, and even though I'm calling it a favor, if you don't do it you'll earn a lecture about how self-centered you are."

I'm sorry if this isn't the place to post this but I really need to vent. I just spent most of the night posting on star wars forms and Facebook pages trying to help rally support to get Disney to continue the books which they unceremoniously abandon to make the new films. and the only thing I've got to show for it is that I've realized how badly our little groups are outnumbered by people who seem to hate the E.U. now I'm to depressed to go to sleep and we're no closer to getting the book series to continue (sigh) maybe I'll do a Sanderson reread but now every time I pick up a book I'm reminded that I'm just one author decision away from having wasted my money (even though the rational part of my brain tells me that wont happen). Anyway that's all I wanted to vent about, Thanks for listening to me 17th shard.

EDIT oh yea adding insult to injury Nicrosil ended in dead last for the Mistborn Dice kickstart although my third choice Duralumin did win so it's not all bad.

Not wasting more time and $ on it.

Question about the EU, if you don't mind:

Are pre-Original trilogy books still canon?

I admit, I didn't keep up with the series; there were too many released by the time I started reading, and I never got them in order, so I just never bothered. But...

I find th Clone War period fascinating. I'd pick up books on that era of histoy, if I knew it wasn't just going to be wiped out in a year or so.

(Any recommendations on Clone War novels, by the way?)

Someone I was pretty close to died today, a friends parent. I don't know what else to say. It hurts.

I am so sorry. :( I don't know what to say besides that death is a terrible thing to experience secondhand. I'm sorry you're having to go through this, and if you need to talk or get anything off your chest, everyone here is ready and willing to listen.

The Force be with Harrison Ford. He crashed his plane about 2 hrs ago and is listed in Critical Condition atm. This will gut me esp since we just lost Nimoy(Spock) last week.

Ed:: update injuries appear non life threatening Rep says. Let's hope this is the case and nothing slipped by Drs notice. I doubt anything would as he will be getting nothing but the best of care. Phew!

My whole body aches. I have a headache that goes from a dull throb to sharp shooting pains for no readily apparent reason. My back aches all the way down my spine, my hips are throbbing, with spikes of pain when I twist to fast. My thighs are tired, I have limited time to walk before they just collapse and my knees and ankles send sharp shooting pains all the way up my body when I dare walk. Oh and all my teeth hurt so stormin' bad.

This is getting quite tiresome. I would go to the doctor but I can't get to a hospital where it would be free and I don't trust my local GP, far too many people sent home with broken bones for my taste. I would normally be high by this point but I can't find any. Not that getting high alleviates the pain but it allows me to better immerse myself in other things allowing me to ignore the pain better.

Delightful, I'm so sorry your friend lost their parent and you someone you were close to.  *hugs *

Smurf, no matter how terrible your GP is, I'm thinking it might be a good plan to go...    Hope you feel better!  (Also, since it got buried by a page of posts in the WLIU thread, I agree that Dino Gnar is about the cutest thing ever.  :) )

I kind of want to start a new thread for good news now, too, or perhaps a "Silver Lining" thread where you try to see the best in a situation (not all situations would necessarily have them).  For example, my terrible bosses have been making terrible decisions about opening/closing our office given Thor the winter storm's passing through yesterday.  First, to provide contrast, yesterday my husband's office closed for the whole day (it is three traffic lights away from mine).  Mine opened on time.  Then, after we had at least 5 inches of snow and anyone without a 4 or All-wheel drive vehicle was going to be screwed trying to traverse the roads, they closed the office at 1 PM.  Snow continued, and we ended up having about 8 inches where we are.  It wouldn't be so bad if my town and the next one over actually cared to plow the roads, but basically, they do a once over and let us all slide around out there.  Then today, after all that snow arrived, my husband's office opened two hours late this morning.  Mine opened on time.  Only, because of shoveling and having our Explorer;s doors freeze shut (had to climb in the back window to kick the doors open from inside), I had to take a half day off work.  If my office had just opened even an hour late, I wouldn't have had to waste half a personal day.  On the UP SIDE, I have an interview on Monday at another place and am anticipating setting up another interview for a second.  The second one, I have already had a phone interview and know that the HR person is passing my info along to the local office.  So, there's my silver lining in all that mess of being frustrated at my current employers for requiring their employees to waste personal/vacation days instead of considering their safety first and opening late or closing.  I think one of these jobs will pan out and I will be out of the crem hole soon.

@ Delightful: I'm sorry ...

@ Smurf: Though you might have given information somewhere I don't know about your healthwise background. But I agree with Traceria that you should try to see a doctor. "Self-medication" seems not to be the right thing (though I'm not really sure I understood your post right.)

@ all: You and your abbreviations :) I found what "GP" means, but what is a "HR Person"?

HR is Human resources, or something like that.

Oh I agree that I should go see a doctor but seeing a doctor costs me money that i do not currently have. If I could get to the hospital it would be free but currently I am unable to do so.

Oh this is so sad.... :( Seeing a doctor is completely free here... Everyone has access to health care, no matter their revenue. You may have to wait in line, but someone will take care of you.

So today I woke up to pollen coating everything and heard thunder which means things are warming up. Louisiana heat is no joke. I hate June-August cause it's just miserable down here. To top it off I saw my 1st wasp of 2015. I can't stand those things and will run from them like a child even though I'm 34 lol. They make my skin crawl. Esp when they cock their wings at an angle. Oh im going to miss Winter.

Briar King, you and my husband would be in complete agreement on the proper course of action around wasps, and he's only one year your senior. *nods *

So, I don't know the family myself, but I do know my assistant...  She found out her son's best friend died in a car accident this morning.  This guy was about a year out of college.  She's friends with his mom, and on top of everything, apparently her son had a disagreement with him not long ago and they hadn't talked before the accident happened.  So, they've got some tough times ahead.   :(

I survived staffing Naka Kon.  Go security ninjas!

But...seriously, people.  Making up your own parking spaces is not an acceptable thing.  It is not even close to being acceptable.  The main lot is out of spaces?  Too bad!  Go park in overflow parking!  It's right over there!  Two blocks is NOT that far to walk; trust me, I did it on Saturday.  If an asthmatic 37-year-old can do it cheerfully without any trouble, the rest of you young whippersnappers can somehow manage it.

And to the person whose moronic made-up parking space made it difficult for me to get out on Friday (and probably impossible for the person parked next to me), I hope you step on a Lego.

That is all.

The noises! Oh god (and I don't even believe in god) the noises! We have had almost dayly building-noises since this summer! I'm about to get crazy if I don't get to sleep well soon. I live in an apartment-house in a row of allmost identical ones, where half of each is owned by a different company. Somewhere this summer the owner ov half of the next one over decided it was time to totaly renovate his house. Need I say that takes time and is loud when you are having over 50 apartments, going one at the time, and are opening up new ones where there previously had been other things? And before they are done with that the owner of our house decides it is (finaly!) time to exchange the windows, not only being loud at a much to early hour for my college hours, but also being intrusive, generally in the way, and walking around outside my third floor window when I can neither have curtains nor blinds. And this is going on untill after Christmas! ...at which point the owner of the other half of the neighbouring house decides to also change windows... with a terribly noisy crane! And dig up the plots of grass and walkingway outside for draining purposes, leaving my way to the bus a muddy pit! And the yard-side of that house looks even worse! I'm not even sure what they're doing there, but they have had tractors there for months! And the owner of our house has yet to repair the damage that was done by the vehicles transporting the ramps and windows to the house - the asphalt is broken, there are deep tracks in the grass and somehow they even managed to break our entrance stone!

Did he get confused on the way to his contractor and instead go to the zoo? It sounds like a bunch of chimpanzees were hired. How did they manage to break asphalt?

Heavy vehicles, thin walking road not ment for anything heavier than a bicycle. Isn't the first time it's happened there.

And the sounds are apparently not going to stop soon, today I've also heard the start of the long since planned new house about 100 meters from my house where there's currently a mountain slope. I'm pretty sure they mean to remove most of that befor beginning constructing for reals (yay explosions!) How many years is it going to take before one can have some peace and quiet?
